So far the controls kinda suck compared to NCAA. I'm having a hard time adjusting.

Also, my pale white ass heisman winner turned black when he entered the draft for Madden. He was runner up for the heisman his rookie year, then won it the next 2 years. Broke the records for most rushing TDs in a season and a career, yet still only went 22nd pick in the 2nd round of the draft. Not to mention getting drafted to the Panthers where he was put 3rd in the depth chart.

I ended up just giving him long sleeves so it isn't as noticeable. Still kinda bugs me though

I've only seen the option to change to Madden 05 and Street controls, nothing that resembles NCAA controls. Is there a way to set things however you want?

Am I the only one having a problem with the game making my imported NCAA guy black? I have 2 (a QB and a FS) and both of them were white in NCAA, but are black in Madden.

Not a big deal, just a bit weird to see my name on a black dude

Every year there are a million problems. However, think about it this way: Are these problems making games unfair, like in the previous versions when the QB would just chuck up lasers across the field when he was being sack, etc?

I think it makes it more realistic. I love the cone vision. Totally exploiting defenses with it, now.

I haven't played against Farve yet, but I bet he makes it harder with the lack of knowing where he may go.

I have gotten quite a few user picks thanks to the cone though, I must admit.

The cone is only about accuracy. If you are good at R2+button, then sometimes it's better to have a narrow cone. Think about this: If Favre has 5 WRs in his cone, who will you guard? The guy closest to you, right? Or the guy you're assigned to.

If you have a narrow cone, and have one person in that cone... who will you defend? That's right, the only guy in the cone. Which is why when I do the TE crosses, my #2 TE is almost always wide open. Just press U/R on the joystick, lead him and make him jump a little, wide open 15+ yards per play.

I'm starting to hate the new scrambling thing. It just seems impossible to get any yards scrambling. Also, they get in on you with the blitz a lot faster.

That paragraph is way confusing. You are jumbling thoughts together like mad.

I know the cone is for accuracy. I have had little problem using it on offense. But with defense, someone like Farve will be accurate to almost everyone since his vision covers the field. I'm not a great defense caller, and I don't think a football game can be played by just guarding the person closest to you. You have to guard everyone. All the games I've played have been against crappier QBs, and the cone has made it much easier for me to guess where they are going. That's why I got so many user picks. I was just commenting that I don't think it will be as simple playing against teams with veteran QBs.

On scrambling, I've gotten used to it. But then again, I use Vick. Case closed.

I'm not jumbling anything together. If you don't understand, that's your problem.

See, what you are doing is trying to read a QB's eyes. Like in the NFL, if you do that, you will get burned by one who knows how to exploit you.

The way I play cone vision, is to stare down one WR and force the safety or a linebacker in a zone to roll over that way, then QUICKLY look away and throw it elsewhere. If you can see everyone, nobody will ever roll coverage. They will stay honest. This will 1) Create more 1-on-1 coverage, which is better for the QB, but it will also 2) Keep everyone covered, so that nobody cheats on a receiver they think is outside of the field of vision. If you try to user pick, the QB pump fakes to the WR in his cone, then throws it to his TE who you have left wide open, then you will be in trouble.

The cone is for accuracy. If you know how to use it, then it doesn't matter how big your cone is, and sometimes having a smaller cone is better.

Does that make any sense yet? If not, read it again.

I also worry about balance. I'm good at running the ball with the Falcons. But I have to learn how to pass.

I usually end up just findind two passes that work on computer and doing them whenever I'm in a tough situation.

That doesn't work against humans. Duh. I know.

Bean, I think he's trying to say is that with the computer, he doesn't have to worry about them being smart enough to look off the reciever. So Farve is going to be more difficult because he doesn't have to. Your point is if you know how to look off and divert attention, smaller cones = greatness. Which is true

Right, but with the computer, all I'm saying is... when you're playing Man-On-Man coverage, and there's a huge cone, the defenders will STICK TO THEIR MEN. And in a Zone coverage, they will PLAY THE ZONE like any other defender. The only thing a big cone will affect is this kid's ability to get a User Pick. I usually allow my players to do that for me, so I'm safe, I guess. He said that
Quote:

And he was wrong. Was he not wrong? He was wrong.

In a zone, you guard the person closest to you. In man, you cover your man. When the cone is small, you can take risks, you see. But you shouldn't. And if the cone is big, you can't take risks, because you DON'T HAVE TO.

I guess I see what you are saying now. At first I thought you were like switching from talking offense to defense. What does R2+button do on defense? I have played so many football games I can't remember keys anymore.

It's just so easy to guard in the cone and get some nice picks. You are saying I should just ignore it?

BTW, how the FUCK do call a fair catch. I swear it should be Triangle, but not once have I gotten it to work.

I play on the D-Line. D Linemen suck for AI, and the passing defense is so much better at staying in position to make a play. I always switch at the last second and press L1 to deflect, or triangle if I think I've got the pick.

Fair catch you need to do early. It's best to switch into him before the kick, because in 2006, it's a lot harder to switch into the right guy on Punts, I've noticed. You'll usually just switch into the lead blocker.

And I was switching from offense to defense, because you need to know both. But the thing is, you need to do what is best for your team. If your defense is great, then you can do whatever you like. If not, you need to expect the run on 1st down, and sometimes 2nd down if you're vs. a good running team. Then you can back off a little. I always put in the # of CBs to the # of WRs. If it's 3WR, I go with Nickel. 4 WR, Dime. Five WR, Dime or Quarter. But be careful if it's dime... you always want your defense set up so either a CB or a Safety is lined up against WRs. Unless you've got like Julian Peterson at LB.

But you need to trust your players to make plays. If you try to do too much you will fail. I throw short, high-percentage passes, and run a lot, hoping I'll get that much protection, and that my WRs can catch a bullet and hold on after being nailed.

I do the same on D. I play DE and switch at last second (lots of practice from Street). I do my best to push and rip, but It's gotten worse with this year's Madden. The OL just pushes me down easily half the time. But I just suck on defense in general. I really have no idea how to call defense. I love calling Cover 2 and Cover 3 alot, and calling a blitz on a sure-run situation. Other than that I can't take it all in. When I played Triple A a year ago he just found a few plays with patches in the zones I was calling and ripped me apart.

On offense I'm ok. I run the ball well, though that takes little skill. Passing is just bad decisions on my part. What hurts me on offense the most is that 100% of the time I will not stay in the pocket. I don't know why. I can't get myself to keep Vick contained in such a dangerous place. I'd rather have him in a place where he can just take off. AAA just blitzed the hell out of me and took care of that.

Shaun Ellis gave me nightmares that night

Yeah you pretty much have to push, then rip now. I used to put in my linebacker on sure passing downs and edge rush, but they don't allow that this year.

Oh, and if you blitz on a running down, be sure you know where it's going, or you'll overpursue and get burned. I used to run the 3-4 cover 1. Because one person edge-rushed, and one LB stuck in coverage. One safety was deep, and the other came up. Worked perfectly.

Its so wierd having to not play with Vick after the 1st quarter in pre-season.

I am so dependent on Vick for making up something when I need it.

WOOOO. GOT IT LAST NIGHT.

First play was a 89 yrd run by Julies Jones. Juke-> Hit Stick-> Stiff Arm->TD

I don't think I will ever figure out that X is sprint and O changes players.

And is it me, or have the graphics got worse since last year? The player's arms look less detailed and textured than last years. Then again, I've only played half a game so far.

The EA Locker system looks pretty badass if it works right. We'll see.

AlphaBean, Assman, WHAT IS YOUR S/N?????

Weird thing happened earlier today...

I was playing and Michaels said "And the Broncos will start off with great field position thanks to that penalty by the Falcons" or soemthing like that.

This would've been fine, except I(Denver) had kicked it of to JACKSONVILLE and the penalty was on me, so where the fuck does Atlanta come into this?

Again, I don't think EA checked the game for bugs as well as they should've, because there are WAY too many.

Tiny things don't bother me either, but it's when those tiny things occur constantly that it gets to me. Still love the game though

I am pretty sure it is impossible to pull off play action in this game.

Also, HOW IN THE FUCK, does a 4 time Hiesman winner who broke a shitload of records and won 3 national titles NOT get drafted ANYWHERE in the FIRST ROUND?

Jason White is a former Heisman winner.

4 times 1 = 4...

Undrafted, and unsigned as a rookie free agent? Times 4...

doesn't look good.

Also, pretty sure Danny Weurfel broke records. And Ty Detmer won the Heisman... and Timmy Chang broke an NCAA record...

And if you're good at NCAA, you can dominate with a kicker at WR. It just depends on the style of offense you run, etc. Hence why a backup from college can be drafted, who never even took a snap, while a 4-year starter with a Heisman is forced to retire. Stats are only half of it.
