Crosby goes to the Devils where he is then forced to play the trap and which results in him eventually becomes a low scoring defensemen.
He'll probably end up on a top team like Colorado or Detroit which will do two things: 1) It'll expose this draft system as the total farce that it is and 2) piss off almost every hockey fan left. (Fan of the team that lends him excluded naturally) |

Yea this system of getting the 1st pick is like a terrible verison of the NBA draft lottery. Bad teams only get 3 balls while every other team gets 1 haha. Like a cracked out version or some shit

Agreed, but disagree. I can see teams that have been historically good losing a lot of players under this new salary cap system. Teams like Toronto, Detroit and Colorado have huge payrolls which they'll need to trim, so they may not be as competitive this upcoming season.

it's pretty much that most teams are probably gonna keep THREE top tier players if their lucky (minus the leafs cause for some gay reason people wanna play there) so pretty much every team is starting over from scratch so I don't mind if a good team gets Crosby.

Getting stuck with Theo is a bad thing because he is an overrated, overpaid piece of crap. He always gets out of his goal to catch the puck, and half the time, he misses the pass or gives it to the opposing team. He is always on his knees before the shot even arrives. He chokes under pressure. He is kept on the team because he is married to the sister of one of the biggest star in Quebec, so people love him, and he makes talk-show and even tries to sing. Ugh.
Theodore has had one good performance in the playoffs a couple of years ago, and ever since, people say he could be the savior of the team which is bullshit. He choked ever since, and we had a far superior goalie in Matthieu Garon, who if he was given the time, could have been better and more appreciated than Jose Theodore. |

haha, I'm actually nervous right now. Found it funny how the bolts won the cup and picked last, then the other florida team got the next one, and the flames and oil are right next to each other. Thank god the devils wont get him.

Ribeiro sucked in the playoffs, and his actions, with the fake diving and shit almost cost us. I'd get rid of that little pansy. Theodore did not choke against the B's, cuz if he did, we would have not made the second round, plain as. As for choking against TB, they were better than us, that's just a fact. You dont choke against the top ranked team in the conference. Come on man, you cant show how biased you are being this badly. |

All right. I'll admit I exxagerated on the "choking against Tampa" stuff, but he did choke against Boston. Have you watched TV or read the papers during the playoffs? Everybody was trying to find reasons why he sucked. "Maybe it's his family life", "Maybe it's the trade rumours" and so on. The bottom line is he did suck. I don't like his style, and we could find about 15 better goalies in the NHL at this moment.

He didn't suck. In the first couple of games people were making mention that he wasn't as sharp as he was 2 years before against the B's, and that is true. But then he started picking it up, and they ripped through the B's. The B's still took lots of shots on goal, yet they couldnt put the puck in the net.
I dare you to name 15 better goalies. If he sucked, we wouldnt have made it to game 7. Watch, he'll be great again this season, and then he'll still be over-rated? |

Flyers bought out John Leclair and Tony Amonte today, making them both free agents. I BET THE LEAFS WILL SIGN BOTH!!!!111 |

et tu brute?
Goodenow wanted to stay on but players' committee opted to go with Saskin TORONTO (CP) - Bob Goodenow resigned as executive director of the NHL Players' Association nearly three years before he'd planned. It wasn't his idea. He stepped aside Thursday, diplomatically and with a lot of class, at the suggestion of the executive committee headed by president Trevor Linden. Ted Saskin, the licensing whiz who was Goodenow's right-hand man, takes over. The committee felt that, with the new six-year collective bargaining agreement coming into play after the season-long lockout, it would be better to make the change now. "I agreed with that," Goodenow explained. "I said, 'That's fine with me."' Goodenow had previously told the committee he wouldn't be continuing past the expiration of his current contract, which had nearly three years to go at a reported $2.5 million US a year. Just a week ago, after the membership ratified the new collective bargaining agreement, he said he loved the work and wanted to stay in the job he started in 1990. "After talking to the players, I said, 'You know, it makes a lot of sense to make the change now rather than wait eight months or something like that,"' he said. "We were uniquely positioned to have someone like Ted to step in. "He's been working at the players' association for 15 years or so, he knows the operation, he knows the collective bargaining agreement well, so it's a perfect match and perfect timing rather than trying to do something in midstream. "It makes perfectly good sense. I don't have any problem with the way things have gone at all." There was always going to be a transition, he said. The process was merely accelerated. "There's the old saying, that when it feels good and it looks good, go ahead and do it, and that's what we've done," he said. The hard-nosed Michigan lawyer lined the players' pockets. They earned an average of $270,000 when he took the reins of a feeble organization that had only two full-time employees during the messy departure of Alan Eagleson. Players were averaging nearly $1.8 million before the lockout, when the gravy train crashed. Through it all, the PA became a well-oiled corporation - thanks in large part to the genius of Saskin. Salary disclosure was as a tenet of his administration but nobody would disclose a dollar figure on the Goodenow settlement. Numbers are still being juggled, the Montreal-born Saskin said. "What we've worked out is an accommodation that's satisfactory to everyone," said Goodenow. The new labour deal isn't what Goodenow envisioned. He'd sworn to oppose a salary cap for as long as it took. He perhaps misjudged the owners' resolve. But the players wanted to get back onto the ice and since the agreement was reached - even though his body language last week seemed to indicate the new deal was personally distasteful to him - Goodenow has toed the party line. "The agreement can work and it will work with everybody co-operating," he said Thursday. It was Saskin who was at the PA forefront in finalizing the new agreement. Goodenow appeared close to tears when he explained how a personal matter had taken him away from the process at one point. "My mother passed away last week and I had some days where I was preoccupied," he said. Goodenow said he has no immediate plans. "I'm going to take a few months off and think about what I might want to do in the future," he said. "I really haven't given it any thought." Linden spoke warmly of Goodenow in an NHLPA statement. "Every NHL player has benefited enormously from Bob's leadership and dedication," said Linden. "He has been a tireless advocate for the players and he dramatically improved the players' situation in every respect. "Bob built the NHLPA into a first-class organization and we are all very grateful to him." He also praised Saskin. "Ted has worked closely with Bob every step of the way and has done an excellent job for the players in our recently concluded CBA negotiations. We have every confidence that he will be able to lead our association well in the years to come." Committee member Vincent Damphousse called Saskin "a superstar, something that I really discovered this year during the negotiations." "He's perfect for the job," said Damphousse. The decision for Goodenow to go was mutual, he added. "I don't want to take anything from Bob," he said. "He's helped me earn a lot more than I ever expected, but we had to take a decision going forward and Bob had to make a decision and I think it was mutual that it was time to go our separate ways and bring a guy in that was really involved in this deal." Both of the lead negotiators in the labour deal have now been promoted: Saskin, and Bill Daly, who has been named deputy NHL commissioner. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman issued a statement following Goodenow's surprise departure: "I have always respected Bob's tenacity, passion and professionalism, and I wish him well in his future endeavours. We congratulate Ted and look forward to working with him." Goodenow thanked the players and others employed in the sport as he made his exit. He said the staff at NHLPA headquarters is so capable that it would win the Stanley Cup if it were awarded to office personnel. A new day dawns. "We've already mended the fences," New York Rangers GM Glen Sather said of the future NHL-NHLPA relationship. "The players and the NHL have made a deal that we're all happy with and we're all going to live with. "It's a partnership and we're going to work together to make the game grow and make it more appealing to the fans and to the players and the owners. It is a genuine partnership." |

He's the main reason we lost the whole year. Saskin is a lot more in tune with the finacial problems the nhl has I think.

He represented the player's desires. He did what they asked him to do. The problem of course is that he is/was a player agent and I believe there's an underlying conflict there that possibly clouded his judgement. IN the end however, while Saskin will be the better man (presumably) for this job, the players hung Goodenow out to dry. LOL BTW

Goodenow represented the Jagrs and Sakics of the NHL. He wasnt about the lesser players, who or course far outnumber the guys making 8+ million a year. No one knows the exact offer that was made by the owner to try and save the season at the beggining of the year, but im pretty sure it was a lot better than what the players got. If Goodenow would have put it to a player vote, im sure it would have been accepted. He held out for something that was unrealistic, and it cost him his job.

I would love to see Bryan McCabe deliver on his promise, that if the NHL works under a cap, he'd never agree to it and quit. "I will not play under a cap system." Well idiot, retire now.

also wtf is up with teams drafting goalies anymore... there is basically NO point... goalies don't usually hit their prime till they like 26-30 and they are allowed to leave at 25.. lots of teams gonna get jewed out.

O'Niel for the Maple Laughs is actually going to work pretty good. He'll have a better supporting cast than he did in Carolina. ALways thought he was underrated. But the leafs still have enough shit to hold them back from doing anything significant
