lol huge mistake? Everyone knew it was gonna be a fire sale. Can't rebuild without tearing down. Tucker and Sundin free up a bunch of money for us to go after free agents.

I cant wait to see the Leafs next season, with these changes, it could actually make them a contender again. I would like to see them have a powerful young first line, a good second line and third line, and a tough gritty fourth line. It would be awesome if they could pull off a Penguins line-up like this past year, where their second-line was also a powerhouse, their third good, and fourth line decent. Also in my opinion what they need is one fucking stellar goaltender, ala prime Hasek, Roy, Or Brodeur |

Pens built their core through 5 years of drafting, signed some solid role players and made a huge trade at the deadline to get what they had. Toronto isn't going to do that in one off season. Leafs have no First line centre once Sundin leaves, Sundib is also btw the only truly reliable 1rst line centre who is going to be a UFA on July 1rst (There's Forsberg but that guy is an injury on skates). They'll also have trouble getting one via a trade or a RFA unless they are looking at giving up 1rst round draft picks (and I do means picks as in plural) to go along with say Kubina or Kaberle (in terms of a trade). Giving up draft picks btw in the Leafs situation would be beyond fucking dumb. Leafs don't really have a solid second line centre either and while there are a few of them but there if you want to be like the Pens none of them are going to make your second line a powerhouse. The Leafs are in total fire sale/rebuilding mode. Only chance they get is if a bunch of their kids really really step up or they sign a bunch of guys who all have career years. Lara, I don't mean that's its going to happen this coming season, although I would like to see it, Its not likely to happen, only through mad trading, signing, etc, will they do that, but they need some new younger talent, and well rounded lines before they start to develop power lines.
Blitz, are you serious? Ah well, If he is at least on the ice when the puck drops its fine. ![]() |

It makes NO sense to get rid of those 3. There should be a change in Toronto but a young guy like Wellwood should be included. Also every Leaf fan I have ever talked to doesn't want Mats gone. Tucker was your heart and soul. Get rid of plugs like McCabe, Kubina, Raycroft...

Vinnie got singed to a 7 year, 77 million deal with Tampa.
Good idea on their part in my opinion. Also saw Darcy Tucker on the local news commenting on not playing with Toronto next season, he was playing Golf ![]() |

Tucker has lost it man. He's my 2nd fav player behind Wade Belak(don't ask), and even I had to admit it that he isn't the same player that he used to be. Wellwood is lazy as shit, doesn't backcheck, can't take faceoffs gets lost out there sometimes. |

nieds is mintttt
and Gertner Tucker has had one bad season ... that is all. Gretzky would have a bad season with that team and the injuries. He is great role player especially for a guy like Ron Wilson. We will see what pans out though. I can see getting rid of some of these guys if you are getting something back but fuck, might as well tank the year and get Tavares. |

Tucker hasn't had this same "fire" in years. He started scoring a decent amount and figured that now since he's a "goal scorer" he doesn't need to play tough.
And you don't pay role players 3 million a season(stupid Fergie). |

Losing those guys, even Sundin, wont hurt the team at all, it will help them. With those guys in the lineup we were a terrible team. With them out we free up cap room, and we allow young guys to get a chance to actually play. For years the Leafs have been full of vets and young guys who crack the lineup get very little chance to play. Now, we havent drafted well, so its not like we had tons of great prospects waiting in the wings to take spots, but it was never really an option then. Now it is. And the fact of the matter is, this team was never going to win ANYTHING. At best you could hope for squeeking into the playoffs and then losing to an upper end team in the 1st rd. For the team to get to the point where they can contend for the Cup, they need to be bad for a year or two, and I mean really bad. If losing Tucker, Sundin, Wellwood and whoever else makes us the worst team in the league this year. I say great, we get a better chance at Tavares next summer. The way the team was headed they were getting very few top end prospects and they were filled with aging vets. Fletch has started to change the makeup of the team, and yes it might mean they take a step back, but it also means they put themselves in a better position for 2-3 years down the road than they were under the previous regime. |

I still dont see where people are saying Tucker doesnt play tough any longer. From what I saw, he was the only guy playing tough on the Leafs for the past two seasons. The smallest guy on the roster pretty much, fighting every guys battles, especially when Belak was sitting, or not doing his job.
Of course that eventually had to catch up to Tucker, but hey, the fighting through injury happened, he's a warrior, always has been, and he'll be better next season, and I hope proves many doubters how wrong they were. |

Lightning acquire the rights to Ryan Malone and Gary Roberts for a conditional 2009 draft pick. Assuming both play next season that is huge for the lightning

I've spoken (at length) about this on another hockey message board, but I actually think it would be INGENIUS on Mike Gillis' part if he signed Todd Bertuzzi (who cleared waivers btw....and is now a UFA come July 1st).
The WCE line (Naslund, Morrison, Bertuzzi) can realistically be had for about 9 million dollars in its entirety. If the WCE were to be re-united, all 3 players can go back to playing the same STYLE that they played when the WCE was around in its peak (the last few years, all 3 players have played on line combos/styles of play, that were NOT condusive for their game....I can speak in length on this subject, but I'm pretty exhausted...I've been talking about this all day). Even if Bert turns out to be a DUD, I think Naslund will be much better with Bertuzzi back (Bert is Naslund's real life best friend, and I think Bertuzzi's departure and Steve Moore incident affected Naslund quite a bit. With a re-united WCE, Naslund will also be allowed to play a high-paced high flying offensive style, where he would be encouraged to carry the puck over the blue line as opposed to "dumping and chasing.") Long story short - even if Bert comes here and is a dud, I think Bert's presence alone will make Naslund much better. A re-united WCE would also free up the Sedins' to play on the 2nd line (the Sedin's are medicore 1st line players, but are one of the BEST 2nd line players in the entire NHL). Kesler and Burrows would also get to stay on the 3rd line (these guys are among the best shut down forwards in the league). For 9 million, the WCE wouldn't be too shabby of an investment. In contrast - a guy like Marian Hossa will command about 8 million all by himself. Ryan Malone will probably command about 5 million. If the Canucks can get the WCE at 9 million, they would still have enough cap space to add a few more ingredients (i.e. get a decent linemate for the twins, or add some key elements on their 3rd/4th lines or their 'D'). People might automatically assume that Naslund and Bertuzzi are washed up, but remember......a lot of people thought the same thing about Teemu Selanne a few years ago (a player that is older than both Nazzy and Bert). Once upon a time back in 1997, people thought Pavel Bure was washed up as well...before he came back with a vengeance and had back to back 50 goal seasons. |

The Lightning have made some DEALS. They are easily the favourite out of the Southeast. Malone, Vrbata, STAMKOS, Prospal, Roberts... also look for them to get Kolzig today
- Cujo back to Toronto as the back up. - Pitkanan to Carolina for Erik Cole ...some big ones coming!!! |

Still not impressed at all with Tampa.
Relying on unproven goalies. Shaky D. As for their signings....Malone can be a bust, he isnt worth what they handed him. Overrated. Roberts is done. The guy is also injured all the time. They'll be a tad better but cant even compete yet with Washington and probably even Carolina in the SE. Definitely not playoff caliber. |

Tampa signs Kolzig and Adam Hall. They are really shaping up to be a big threat in the East. There biggest problem has always been goaltending and now they have solved that.
Theodore goes to Washington and Andrew Raycroft to Colorado. |

The Leafs just got FINGER FUCKED!!!!!
lmao. They give Jeff Finger(who?) 4 years at 3.5 per. That's more then what the Habs signed Kostystyn for. Not only that, but Tucker made that cash, they wanted to buy him out and did....they want to move on....so then they go out and get Finger for the same dough, lol. Plus Tucks is still on the books for a mill per. Finger???? Really???? Now you all see why the Leafs can never win. |

That's because the Leafs didn't play the Av's this year. He's younger and not awful. Exactly what the leafs needed.
