Most impressive no hitter in a while in my opinion as the Brew Crew has some offense this season.

SammyG I have heard that your Dodgers and the Reds are in trade talks for Adam Dunn. What do you think about that? Id say if you do get done you would have to give up a SP or some good prospects

Dodgers need some pop, but I think it would be a mistake to give up one of their SPs. Mind you since I don't follow them, I don't know what they've got coming up from the minors.

Yeah I know the Astros rejected Dunn for Lidge. I heard no deal is worked out with the Dodgers they might offer him to the W Sox for Burhele.

I dunno. I don't wanna give up any SP, or Kemp, Loney or Ethier. These guys are gonna be LA's future. I am just fine with the lineup we have.

What team's playoff hopes are dead, alive?
Arizona Diamondbacks Status: Alive On a park-adjusted basis, the Snakes have the best pitching in the NL. As well, those young bats are finally showing signs of life. At present, they're tied with the Dodgers, one W ahead of the Padres in the wins column, and they're not going anywhere. Atlanta Braves Status: Alive The -1 run differential is a bit troubling, as are the injuries to core contributors like John Smoltz and Chipper Jones. Still, they're only two games back in the East and in the Wild Card chase. Baltimore Orioles Status: Dead The pitching's looked much better of late, but the hole is too deep. Avoiding a 10th-straight losing season is a more reasonable goal. Boston Red Sox Status: Alive At present, Baseball Prospectus gives the Sox a 97.1 percent chance of making the post-season, and that's about as good as it gets in June. The only question is whether they'll win 100 games. Chicago Cubs Status: Alive In any other division, they'd be dead, but this is the NL Central. They've scored more runs than they've given up, but the Cubs' brutal record in one-run games is killing them. Still, they've got a puncher's chance in this division. Chicago White Sox Status: Dead The division is too tough, and the offense is too bad. Despite playing in a great hitter's park, the White Sox rank last in the AL in runs scored per game. The time to rebuild has arrived. Cincinnati Reds Status: Dead Yes, even in the NL Central this team's done for. Homer Bailey will help the rotation the rest of the way, but they don't have the talent to make up an eight-and-a-half-game deficit. Cleveland Indians Status: Alive The pitching has been slipping, but the offense remains one of the game's best. They'll need more consistency in the rotation going forward, but the Indians are a solid bet to make the postseason. Colorado Rockies Status: Dead Finishing out of last place is a distinct possibility, as is logging their first winning season since 2000. The future is reasonably bright for the Rockies, but the teams ahead of them in the West are simply too tough. Detroit Tigers Status: Alive At the moment, the Tigers are tied with the Indians atop the AL Central and lead the AL wild-card race. Unless the Tigers can get healthy, that may not last much longer. Still, the defending AL champs are here to stay. Florida Marlins Status: Dead The offense has been tremendous thus far, but they don't have the pitching to hang with the Mets and Braves. Houston Astros Status: Dead After you adjust for park effects, the Astros have the worst offense in the NL. The rotation behind Roy Oswalt is similarly ugly. That won't be enough, even in baseball's weakest division. Kansas City Royals Status: Dead The Royals + baseball's toughest division = dead. Watching Alex Gordon improve the rest of the way is the only reason to tune in. A fourth-straight 100-loss season seems inevitable. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Status: Alive The offense is improving. If the rotation stays healthy, then the only question is whether they'll wind up as the best team in baseball. Los Angeles Dodgers Status: Alive Right now, they're the weakest of the three NL West powerhouses, but they're still very much alive. It'll be important for Grady Little to give the young bats (e.g., James Loney and Matt Kemp) as much playing time as possible in the coming weeks. Milwaukee Brewers Status: Alive Milwaukee's 34-30 record is certainly on the "meh" side for a team atop its division, but only the Red Sox have a larger lead. Minnesota Twins Status: Alive Alive, but by a thread. Until the Twins can get better production from left field and DH, they're not going to be a serious threat. Still, they're hanging around. New York Mets Status: Alive The wheels have been coming off of late, but they still lead the NL East by a pair of games. Long-term, they figure to fend off all comers in the division. New York Yankees Status: Alive The Yanks are heating up, Roger Clemens is in the fold and Bobby Abreu is finally starting to hit. The odds are still against them (they're five-and-a-half games out of playoff position at this writing), but they're in the contending fray. Oakland Athletics Status: Alive The best pitching staff in baseball, but the A's can't hit and can't stay healthy. Still, the run differential suggests their record should be two games better than it is. They're a serious threat to win the Wild Card. Philadelphia Phillies Status: Alive After a brutal start to the season, the Phillies have methodically pulled to within hailing distance of the NL East and wild-card leads. If they're going to get closer, then they'll need to patch those holes in the rotation. Pittsburgh Pirates Status: Dead A 15th-straight losing season is all but assured. The Buccos have some interesting young pitching, but there's just no offense. St. Louis Cardinals Status: Alive Only in this division would the Cardinals cling to life. If they can hang in there until Chris Carpenter and Mark Mulder return at some point in August, then perhaps they can make a late push. San Diego Padres Status: Alive The best team in the National League? Quite possibly. They have the strongest run differential in the league and one of the best bullpens in recent memory. San Francisco Giants Status: Dead They can't compare to the Padres, Diamondbacks and Dodgers. They might not even be able to stay out of last place. Seattle Mariners Status: Alive The upstart Mariners are only a game off the AL wild-card pace. It remains to be seen whether they can keep it up, but right now they're very much alive. If Felix Hernandez can return to his pre-DL form, then that'll certainly help their cause. Tampa Bay Devil Rays Status: Dead Baseball's worst pitching staff resides in Tampa. James Shields and Scott Kazmir form an enviable one-two punch, but otherwise they can't keep runs off the board. Texas Rangers Status: Dead Deader than dead. The Rangers could wind up as the worst team in baseball this season. And no longer can you point to the pitching as the sole problem — the team's failures are sweeping and all-encompassing. Toronto Blue Jays Status: Dead Potentially a decent team, but they don't have the rotation depth to compete with the true AL powers. Washington Nationals Status: Dead The Nats aren't turning out to be quite as bad as anticipated, but a team scoring less than four runs per game in this day and age isn't going anywhere. ### kinda early to be writting teams off imo, plus the wildcard keeps so many teams alive to the end.. what do you think? |

Looks like the Sox will lose, and unless Michael Myers gives up 5 runs before getting 2 outs we will win too. Chipping away at that division lead.

Well the Reds have been a big time dissapointment this season as several publications had us as the NL WC team. While lately the pitchings always been bad its been worse this season. The only real great efforts we have gotten is from Harang and Lohse twice this yr. Bailey could do great things down the stretch and Everyday Eddie returns soon. While we can put up runs with any1 we can give them up just as easy. I know it seems that the playoff chances are fading fast but this NL Central Race is still wide open in my opinion.

Yet the anaylists are kind of being Yankee haters still saying they beat struggling teams like the W Sox and Pirates and that they would still get L's against the upper echleon of the AL teams

I can't see the NL West race being competitive much longer. The Padres are so good this year. Their pitching is by far the best in the NL and it's a very real possibility that Peavy and Young will finish 1 and 2 in the Cy Young voting at the end of the year. The Padres also look like the team most likely to get Dunn which would give them a power bat which is really the only weakness on their team right now.

I like the Yankees upcoming schedule. The Mets are usually tough, so I'm not gonna underestimate them, although they do seem to be in a downfall right now. After that they have the Rockies, Giants and Orioles. Good chance to pick up some games, especially when the Sox have the Braves, Padres and Mariners during that stretch.

The Padres team ERA is 2.97. The Dodgers team ERA is 3.62. The Dodgers pitching is not better than the Padres.

My Jays D/A'ed Sal Fasano. Not surprised, but I'll tell you what, the guy a great clubhouse leader. Shit, he barely spent any time with the Jays, yet he was very interested in passing on what he knew about pitchers/pitching, etc. This guy might never be a MLB star, but he very well could be a good coach some day.

I never understood why the Yanks grabbed him at the trade deadline. I assume to give Jorge Posada some extra time off. But he only played a few games then went out on the market at the end of the season.
It's a bummer though. True he might not be right there with Piazza, Posada, or other big name catchers. But I could also see him winding up as a coach or possibly team manager in his future. |

Geez. Tough loss for us today. Probably would have been into extra innings or won if we didn't do stupid stuff today. Mets were on point and gave Posada a workout today.
