I do think Lindstrom is in the discussion for best defencemen ever, if only for how long he's played at such a high level. Then obviously you have all his success on both the team & individual level.

Orr's gotta be #1 though. Changed the way defencemen played and was the linchpin for one of the greatest teams hockey's ever seen. Not to mention he's scored the most famous goal in the history of the league.

Watching Caps vs Sens tonight.

Looks like King and Hendricks are in for the Caps and Neil and Lessard are in for the Sens so his should be good for a couple scraps.

Gretzky did an interview today on TSN. One thing that he said that surprised me was stating that the instigator rule should be eliminated.

I 1000000000% agree with this. I know people would thing this would lead to more fights, but Matthew Barnaby stated that he was a little less brave when he ad to answer to Doug Brown and Bob Probert. Lol if a former shithead like Barnaby states this than it has some validity.

Anybody catch the Komisarek hit on Mark Olver? I feared that it would lead to a suspension and I was ready to just give on on this league. Glad he didn't.

It'd eliminate fake tough guys like Cooke and company running around without a care in the world. I'm sure if Cooke had to answer to Boogs he wouldn't be running around. I'd re-instate the third man in rule as well to keep from it become a line brawl so it wouldn't get out of control. Plus, maybe my boy Belak would come out of retirement lol.

Going to be a waste to argue a "what if" and I'll probably be called a "Pens Fanboy" but, Gretzky also played 570ish more games then Lemieux did. Not trying to say Gretzky's records are just because he played more games or anything like that, but had Lemieux played 570 more games and kept playing at the level he had been in the 90s, 66 might be retired league wide too.

Off topic but talking about the hall of fame reminds me that I hate myself for not going to the Hall of Fame when I was in Toronto 5 years ago.

Ill agree with LDM.

I am not saying either one was better, however I will say that Lemeiux was the only one who could potentially have been AS good if not BETTER then Gretzky.

Gretzky was pretty crazy when it came to assists since his career assists alone were more than Lemeiux career goals and assists combined for the regular season.

Lemeiux does have one record Gretzky can't get anytime soon and that is Stanely Cup winner as both a player and in management (coach/GM/owner).

Even, Short, PP, Penalty Shot and Empty Net.

Wow, Canucks beat a 10 man Thrashers team tonight.

6 wearing Thrashers jerseys, 4 wearing black and white stripes.

I don't usually bitch about the ref, because things tend to even out throughout the game...bad call going both ways. Tonight was just horrible.

Good God I hate Scott Oak.

Asks stupid questions, indirectly insults the Flames as he's interviewing Iginla, brings up personal stats during a 60 second interview, but doesnt ask a question about it...fucking moron is only out done by the other fucking morons who continue to sign his pay cheque.

In fact, the whole CBC announcer squad other than Jim Hughson. Mark Lee and Kevin Weekes are horrible for the late show.

Intermission squad are great with Mclean, Milbury, Hrudey..and im even starting to like PJ Stock even though he stated out slow.

That was a nothing game for the Wings though....no idea why MacDonald didnt start that game in the first place.

Leafs fans do have some positives this year though...Riemer gives hope...and atleast you didnt give up 2 lottery picks for Kessel.

Trust in Burke (and Nonis.)

Sure he's made some bad moves(Byrgzolov or whatever the spelling)...said some stupid things...

But he gets results.

If not for Burke and Nonis...this Canucks team would not exist. I'd hate to think were they would be if Keenan was still running the show. Burke did inherit an already great Ducks team from Brian Murray...but Burke added the final pieces to win the cup.

Can't say the Leafs should be taken seriously anytime soon...but they're a hell of a lot better from the JFJ days.

The Ducks also had Hiller and Giguere, the latter at the time was an excellent goaltender and Hiller isn't too shabby. Hiller is a top 5 goaltender in my opinion.

Up until this years all star game, Hiller is absolutely a top 5 goalie. Vertigo...wtf?

I know Byrgzalov was traded because Burke promised to let him try to become a number 1 elsewhere...but waivers? Atleast get a a late round pick...

Burke is loyal to his players...to a fault.

He stood behind Bertuzzi over that Steve Moore incident...even though Bertuzzi probably should have been thrown to the wolves.

In the long term, giving away Byrgzalov hurt the Ducks.
In the long term, giving up 2 1st rounders will hurt the Leafs.

So he will make regrettable moves...but at the end of day, he's going to do more good than bad for the Leafs.

Hiller has always been pretty good. His defence has been atrocious this year and the Ducks have generally been a 1 line team. The Coyotes play a better system than the Ducks too and are way more disciplined. Also, when you're paying a goaltender 6 million like Giguere, you tend to start him more than you should. This year has really been Hiller first full year to start without having to look over his shoulder.

But yeah, giving away Bryzgalov was silly.

wooow

great comeback by the Flames tonight. I still think they're fubar, but they're not going down without a fight.

The last game of year is vs the Canucks....imagine the Flames needing to win vs the Nucks just to make the playoffs, in order to face the Nucks in the first round. Could get nasty.

Visnovsky has been great on the Ducks D this year, but he can't replace Nieds or Pronger.
Perry, Getzlaf, Ryan, Selannne(even at 100 years old) are phenomenal up front.
Other than the Canucks, the Ducks have to be considered a scary team in the west.

As a Canucks fan...I'd rather face the Hawks in the playoffs than the Ducks.

Coaches don't pay attention to contracts. Giggy making 6 mill doesnt matter if he's being out played. Just look at the Leafs right now. Giggy is making more money than me, you...and the rest of tpww combined just sitting on his ass.

I dont have any stats to back this up...but I tend to think goalies play better when they have to look over their shoulders. This season is probably Luongo's best as a Canuck. Why? Because Schneider has played great. Makes Luongo feel as if he needs to earn every start. People in general tend to do better when they face competition.

Who wants to live in a city where you get -20(or more) degree weather 8 months of the year.

Poor Habs fans...

"Scott Gomez, the club's highest-paid player who has seven goals and is a team-worst minus-16 this season..."

35 points, for a 6 million+ (not sure the exact number) cap hit

Glen Sather raped you and laugh while spitting in your face.

Depending on the team and owner, coaches do get pressured to play players with bigger contracts. Plus, Giggy did win a cup and that carries some weight.

I just want to state that I absolutely despise Gomez. He is paid about 4 million more then he should and Ive never defended the move and still have no clue why it was made.

They said we couldn't afford Price and Halak because of salary cap constraints...well no fucking wonder.

Anyways, on to more relevant stuff. Toronto may just have had a nail put in their coffin, it would take an incredible run and a complete walling by Reimer to make it at this point. Its possible, but given that its the leafs and consistency is not their forte, I say they miss it from anywheres between 1-3 points. A heartbreaker for sure but look at the good side of things.

This all from MY point of view by the way.

Kessel - You overpaid for him, argue, bitch, whine, pull up numbers, regardless you overpaid. Is he a good player? Yes. Can he consistently score? Yes. Does he? Well...No. He is a 30+ goal guy, but what good is a 30 goal guy who scores 2-3 times (possibly including an empty netter) in a total blowout? If Toronto is up 4-1 (HAHA, I know) and Kessel makes it 5-1. Its an almost worthless goal. What would make Kessel seem worth the two picks is IF its 1-1 late in the third and Kessel scores a goal. Thats the type of goal scoring needed. Its almost like Lucic in Boston, excellent player and fun to watch, but nearing 30 goals I dont remember him scoring one that actually mattered all that much (keep in mind I rarely see Boston games)

Moving on.

MacArthur - Excellent move getting this guy, With Grabovski and Kulemin, they have made a formidable line.

What they need is for Bozak or Kadri to step up and take spots on the top line (Kadri can play all forward positions) So if they worked out, a potential line of Kadri - Bozak - Kessel would be beneficial to their team.

What they need (and what they traded ) Is a puck moving defenseman and PP quarterback. I honestly think Phaneuf is overrated. I like the guy, but he is given far more credit then he deserves.

Reimer needs to get signed and for a good amount of time. This is the first goalie in recent memory that Toronto has drafted, developed and won with. They need to lock this kid up now and not let him get away.

Giguere needs to go, he has served well for the time he was here, but his salary is not something that Toronto needs at the moment. Sign a low-priced backup (like a Clemmensen or Boucher)

All in all, they need

A #1 Center
A power forward LW
A puck moving D
A good backup for Reimer (able to start 20-25 games)

Thats my thoughts.

With Giguere leaving, they should be able to make an impact on the FA market this year and hopefully be able to steal someone in the draft who can make the opening night roster.
