Yes, that is a foul. Owen was trying to break away from the defender but the defender had his arm so Owen fell to his knees.

Ref had no choice

Yes Angel is Colombian but he hasn't scored consistently in like forever. Last I heard of Salas he was bumming around in Italy somewhere I don't know what he's doing now.

Yeah I agree CC, Young comes form Charlton by the way, well thats the club he plays for, not sure if he's actually from there.

What an awful performance once again though from the whole team, we'll either draw 1-1 with poland or lose 2-0.Sven needs to be sacked after the poland match, alright so we've qualified, but look at the performances overall, they don't exactly fill me with confidence. That man is only in the job because of how much his contract is worth.

Blatter blasts 'pornographic' club owners

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has vowed to stop 'greed ruling the world of football' and launched a blistering attack on hugely-wealthy club owners he claims are threatening the future of football.
In an astonishing column in the Financial Times, the FIFA president says the 'pornographic amounts of money' being thrown around by some club owners could suffocate the game.
Blatter said: 'A fortunate few clubs are richer than ever before. What makes this a matter of concern is that, all too often, the source of this wealth is individuals with little or no history of interest in the game, who have happened upon football as a means of serving some hidden agenda.
'Having set foot in the sport seemingly out of nowhere, they proceed to throw pornographic amounts of money at it. What they do not understand is that football is more about grass-roots than idols; more about giving entertainment and hope to the many than bogus popularity to a predictable few; more about respecting others than sating individual greed, whether for adulation or money.'
Blatter insists a new FIFA task force set up to deal with corruption and multiple ownership issues will deal with the excesses.
He adds: 'This cannot be the future of our game. FIFA cannot sit by and see greed rule the football world. Nor shall we.
'The time has come to take action to curb the excesses and ensure that the sport protects its roots.
'If nothing is done, this new money could suffocate a sport that has no fewer than 1.3billion active followers around the world.
'The professional game is now shot through with practices that, at best, expose the ugly side of club football and, at worst, threaten its very existence.'
Blatter says the practice, in Latin America especially, of speculators buying the commercial rights to promising child players is unacceptable and a 'new form of slavery'.
He also attacks players and agents for demanding 'insane' wages, saying: 'Equally unacceptable are the sort of wage negotiations that can produce the spectacle of semi-educated, sometimes foul-mouthed, players on £100,000 a week holding clubs to ransom until they get, say, £120,000.
'More often than not, these players are guided in these endeavours by unsavoury agents.
'It is simply insane for any player to 'earn' £6million-£8million a year when the annual budget of even a club competing in the UEFA Champions League may be less than half that. What logic, right or economic necessity would qualify a man in his mid-20s to demand to earn in a month a sum that his own father - and the majority of fans - could not hope to earn in a decade?'
Blatter also blames the influx of hugely-wealthy owners for causing football to become predictable.
'Unlimited cash has given a handful of club owners the wherewithal to control the global club game by splashing unimaginable sums on a tiny group of elite players. More than ever before, the majority are fighting with spears, while the greedy few have the financial equivalent of nuclear warheads.
'No wonder empty seats in stadiums and saturation live television coverage of matches have become issues. What is interesting about a league whose champions can be predicted with confidence after about five games?
'Why is it good for football to take the excitement away from fans by overcharging them for tickets to see 'their' team? And is it really still 'their' team when one club in England has a squad with 19 nationalities?
'What we are faced with today is a football society of haves and have nots.'

hear hear. I know my club is one of them, but hear hear.

Greece 1-0 up against Georgia in Athens about 15 minutes in. To finish 2nd we MUST win, Turkey MUST lose away to Albania and Denmark MUST NOT WIN away against Kazakhstan. I think we will win convincingly but other results will fuck us up. Still, shitting myself, as it stands the Kazakhstan-Denmark score suits us (0-0) but Albania-Turkey is also 0-0

It would be an absolute fucking miracle if we finish in 2nd spot now.

Lol. I know he's from Charlton, I wasn't talking literally. I think Sven has a real eye for underrated players. If he wasn't obsessed with Beckham and Crouch then maybe he'd actually be capable of putting together a good team.

Speaking of Charlton players... why not Danny Murphy? He was in the international frame a few years ago when he was player of the season at Liverpool, and he's just as good now. I'd rather have Murphy come on as a late sub to shake things up rather than that goon Hargreaves. Do you know how many games that fake English/German/Canadian has played? And he's done very little at international level to warrant his inclusion!

Albania 0-1 Turkey

We're OUT! Ah well, our own fault for fucking up earlier in the campaign. Hopefully the Aussies can qualify now

that club with 19 foreigners is us, we've had Gordon Taylor going on about it and all the dickheads from Sky crying about how we were going to field a team with no English players and how bad it was.

We then went and fielded 2 English players plus a Scot and Andy O'Brien who was born in Yorkshire but represents Ireland. Which just went to show what a load of old bollocks the whole thing was.

Just because we have 19 foreigners doesn't mean we're not going to play home grown players.

The fact of the matter is we have to buy overseas players because English players are ridiculously over priced.

And to answer the question: "is it really still 'their' team when one club in England has a squad with 19 nationalities?"

Yes, it is very much my team. Our Serbian captain (much like the Dutchman before him), Danish right back, French left back, Senegalese midfielder and Congolese striker have endeared themselves to me with their commitment, ability and pride to the same degree our English players have. Their nationality means nothing to me, they are all Pompey players at the end of the day. So long as they show a bit of pride and give 100% I couldn't give a toss if they're English or Albanian.

Maybe thats why I am caring less and less about the English national team? Because dickheads like Rio Ferdinand play for us.

Will be very interesting if Croatia and Serbia get drawn in the same group at the World Cup

By the way, Uruguay finished 5th in South America after a 1-0 win over Argentina, and will play Australia in Montevideo on November 12, then in Sydney on November 16. Fuck.

Seriously we are such a better team without Ferguson's incredible ability to pass a ball from side to side. Midfield four of McFadden, Quashie, Fletcher and Hartley is the way forward. Ferguson's inability to pass a ball forward or control a game just hinders the rest of the side.

Has Nigel Quashie had a bad game for club or country since his first cap? Berti Vogts didn't do much but thank God he found Quashie.

Next step is to get rid of Steven Pressley and Graham Alexander. After that, we might just have a team capable of challenging.

That's gay He can become a manager in a few years though, have a successful time in charge of Leicester and then be appointed as Greece coach, it's all good.

John Motson, the main BBC commentator here, said something like 'and some good news - Greece are out! the European Champions beat Georgia but as Turkey beat Albania they get the play-off place in the group already won by Ukraine, and i THINK that means Denmark are out too'. God i hate him, for one thing Englishmen will hate Turkey more than Greece and it's obvious that Denmark would have been out.

Then there was Graeme Le Saux saying stuff like 'he's one of the few players of his generation who can do that' about a turn, sidestep and shot from Rooney, even though it went over. It wasn't that difficult a skill ffs.

That talk of sides having no Englishman is over the top aswell, we did it in the Championship this season with the team of: Douglas, Maybury, Gilbert, Johansson, McCarthy, Sylla, Gudjonsson, Williams, Tiatto, Connolly, de Vries.

Yes; when Richard Hughes dominated him in Southampton's 4-1 thrashing at Fratton Park last season

I've got it on DVD so i can relive it again and again and again. You're welcome to come round and take a look

Quashie for us was one of our worst players in our first premiership season and the fans got on his back a lot (not me, i admired his commitment) because he constantly tried Frank Lampard style long shots and they always went miles over the bar. Plus he was always caught in posession and gave the ball way cheaply by playing square balls.

Then he got picked for Scotland last season and his form improved and he went from being our worst player and weakest link to being quite good. Then we sold him to scum and they said he was their best player (although considering his competition was Rory Delap and Paul Telfer, thats not that huge an achievment )

So i dunno what it was, but after he got picked from Scotland he went from being an absolute weak link to being quite good.

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has accused Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger of "conning everybody" into believing the Gunners always play attacking football.

Allardyce claims Wenger is more shrewd in how he portrays his team than Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and that, just like other teams, the north London club are occasionally forced to play more defensively.

He told the Daily Mirror: "Arsene is very good at how he portrays his team's performances. He is conning everybody. Arsenal are more attractive in terms of how everyone likes to see football played but perhaps Arsene does a better job media-wise than Jose."

He added: "The perception is that Arsenal always play attacking football and Wenger is very good at putting that over to people but it's not always true."

He added in The Sun: "When they beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final they didn't win playing attacking football, they did it with 4-5-1 and played for penalties."

Shut up, you fat fuck
