Nope they are, just went and voted. Went with Liriano and Nomar - no Schilling or Mussina on the 5 man ballot so Liriano has a good shot

Apparently they can because Liriano is on the last player thing. I don't remember them on there in the past. I can't remember off my head who is on the lists this year, I just went on and voted for Liriano and Nomar a couple times without really looking. I think the AL one includes AJ Pierzynski and Justin Verlander, the NL one has Bobby Abreu, I forget who else.

I don't remember this problem in years past, but for some reason it seems like there are so many guys who are worthy of being All Stars but not enough spots. Usually the last-vote in is somebody good but not the AL ERA leader and the NL batting leader.

AL Final Vote: Travis Hafner, Ramon Hernandez, Francisco Liriano, A.J. Pierzynski, Justin Verlander
NL Final Vote: Bobby Abreu, Chris Capuano, Nomar Garciaparra, Billy Wagner, Chris Young --- On the NL side its looking like two of the pitchers will probably get in anyway, since Pedro and Glavine will likely both skip on the game due to injury and short rest, respectively. I voted for Wagner, not a homer pick but because without him, Brian Fuentes is the only lefty on the staff (assuming Glavine does in fact skip the game and Capuano doesn't make it). He's also a power pitcher, which is needed on the staff. Nomar deserves it, no doubt, but there's already 3 first basemen on the team and even then I wouldn't play any of the reserves over Pujols. |

Glauss' early sucess got him on the team. He's slumping right now, but his numbers still look decent. (apart from the avg.)

Well who isn't interested in trading FOR Dontrelle Willis? The question is WHY would the Marlins even consider trading a 24-year old pitcher? (Actual age +/- 2 years)

For the right deal, Dontrelle should be traded. If they can get 3 top prospects from an organization like LAAA, why not? Willis is good but he's not Santana or anything. He had an amazing season last year, but he has been pretty shit this year and was pretty shit his sophomore year. I'm still not sold on Willis because he hasn't proven that he can dominate for longer than one season.
Miguel Cabrera is the one who should be untouchable. He is one of those guys who comes around once every 10 years or so. |

I dunno, Guardado should be able to get NL hitters out. At the least it moves Coffey into a setup role where he's better

I liked Harold Renyolds idea of having a utilty position player for the all star game.

Why?
With all due respect to utility guys, they are utility guys because they aren't really good enough to be an everyday position player. The All-Star game isn't about awarding honours to the best 'not quite good enough' player. I completely understand the vital role utility players make on their respective teams, but all-stars they are not. |

Holy shit, Henry Owens up.....Mike Pelfrey to be up Saturday
![]() Hope Owens isn't just roster filler and actually plays. He's been pretty ridiculous in Double A as their closer. Throws near 100 MPH, 1.08 ERA, 51 K's in just 25 innings

Jesus christ, KC have been OVER .500 in their last 20-something games
![]() Also Miz (seeing as you seem to know the minors and shit), what do you know about this Jesus Montero kid who the Yankees have signed? I only just read some blurb on MLB.com about him, talking about him being groomed to take over from Posada in 4 or 5 years |

According to Baseball America, he is terrible behind the plate and will probably end up at 1B. All I know is he's the top prospect in Latin America, and since he says he's 16 years old that means he's anywhere from 19-26.

Speaking of terrible behind the plate, we got the Yanks/Tribe game wednesday night, i knew Victor Martinez was hot with the bat but i didn't realise how much guys were stealing on him, he was MILES off everytime, we even had that double steal at one point!
Dya think the Indians will move him? I mean their defence isn't exactly gold glove standard anyway but yknow, having a solid guy behind the plate wouldn't hurt |

V. Martinez's offensive upside is far too valuable to move him at this point in his career for a more defensive catcher. Now it may be only me, but he's always looked adequate behind the plate. I don't think his defense is so terrible that you'd toy with moving him. - Unless of course you mean move him in the sense of putting him at 1B or something.

I was reading some news and the name Eric Gagne came up. Now the guy's going in potentially for back surgery. What is up with this guy? He's been nothing but virtually on the DL since what - 2003? I can't help but think he's a victim of performance enhancements.
Does anyone else think this? |

What GS was more impressive last night. D-Trains or Hafners? (D-Train being a pitcher or Hafner for breaking the record for most GS before the All-Star Break)

I think Gagné is done. He's a free agent after this year (Dodgers will obviously decline his option) and no team will be crazy enough to give him a multi-year deal. He seems like a guy who isn't going to be healthy again, ever.
Steroids wouldn't surprise me, but then again no player in baseball would surprise me in that department. |

lol
I remember seeing Gagne start a couple of times back in his very early days i think around 2000 time, and he was definitely not the size he is today, can't remember what kind of heat he had on his FB, though his stuff was pretty good. |

I always thought Gagné was more fat than huge, but that's irrelevant. I think most pitchers who take steroids do it to recover more quickly from injuries and to be able to make 34 starts (or 80 appearances, if you're Gagné).
