Fantasticism
Both Uruguay's selected keepers are injured and are gonna struggle to make the first leg in 10 days' time. They can't get their third choice keeper released from his club (I think in Italy) so they could be facing the prospect of having a local fourth choice keeper out against us |

That Theo Walcott looked alright today, although Patrik Gerrbrand had him in his pocket for most of the game.
If Wenger doesn't give Ryan Smith a chance at Arsenal after his loan is up then he's a dick, the kid is fucking dynamite. That said, we should have won today, Southampton were poor, just hoofing it over the top for Walcott to chase really, Quashie was about the only one passing it about. Rab did his best to gift them a win though, possibly the worst goalkeeping performance by someone who kept a clean sheet ever. We need a forward on loan. |

They're not very good. Just very well organised. Everyone pushes up when they attack, everyone gets back when they defend. When they lose the ball everyone presses and flies in to win it back then they counter attack.

Australian security assured
AAP http://www1.sbs.com.au/home/index.php3?id=65244 The Socceroos have been promised some of the tightest security ever afforded an Australian sporting team for their World Cup play-off match against Uruguay in Montevideo on Sunday (AEDT). With the first leg kick-off time confirmed for 6pm Saturday local time (7am Sunday AEDT), Uruguayan police chiefs have vowed a security net will be thrown around the Socceroos from their arrival in Montevideo on Friday until they depart the country late Saturday night. They have promised local fans will be kept well away from the Australian squad in an attempt to avoid any repeat of events for Australia's last World Cup play-off visit in 2001. Socceroos players were spat on, kicked and punched by a mob on arrival at Uruguay's international airport, then harangued by noisy fans outside their hotel for three days leading up to that match. Relations between the two nations' football authorities deteriorated in the lead-up to Saturday's game, with Football Federation of Australia (FFA) chief executive John O'Neill warning last month his team could walk off if there was any of the crowd trouble that marred their previous visit. Montevideo police chief Ricardo Bernal said heavy security would protect the Australian players and officials, who are currently at a pre-match training camp in Argentina. "There will be a full and strict security cordon surrounding the Australian delegation from the time they reach the airport until the time they leave the country," Bernal told reporters in Montevideo. Bernal said the Uruguayan government had worked out security arrangements with Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs, police force, and FFA officials. Socceroos coach Guus Hiddink said he was pleased with security measures and didn't expect any off-field trouble. "The people within the federation have organised it very well. We have talked everything over and so far it has all been well executed," Hiddink said. The Socceroos players are also happy with security arrangements, with striker John Aloisi confident there'll be no ugly mob scenes in Uruguay. "I don't think we're going to get a bad reception in Montevideo. It's normal that they're going to try to get us a little bit scared and whatever," Aloisi said. "But the boys are going to be prepared for it this time and it'll make us want to win even more when people are trying to get you scared and get on your back." FIFA ruled on the kick-off time for the first leg match after days of wrangling - providing a compromise deal of sorts for the Socceroos. Uruguay had initially switched the kick-off time from 4pm to 9pm after arranging a charter flight and believing the Socceroos would not be able to do the same, leaving them stranded in Montevideo for an extra night ahead of Wednesday's second leg in Sydney. But the Socceroos arranged their own charter flight while Uruguay's fell through, leaving the embarrassed South Americans scurrying to FIFA to help move the kick-off time forward after Australia stood firm and rejected their pleas for a 5pm timeslot. Sensing FIFA would side with the South Americans, Australian soccer boss O'Neill offered to split the difference with a 7pm kickoff and FIFA compromised by directing it start at 6pm. O'Neill said Australia was happy to accept FIFA's decision and get on with the game. Amid the security crackdown, Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs has issued an advisory warning to the estimated 250 Australian fans planning to travel to Montevideo to beware of trouble on game day. "Australians travelling to Uruguay for the FIFA World Cup qualifier are advised to be alert to their own security and avoid any disturbances or offensive behaviour, particularly in or near the stadium on match day," the warning says. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LOL stupid Uruguayan cunts. Doesn't matter, I'll be getting shitfaced on Saturday night and watching it at 7am. I'm going to out and say if we don't score an away goal we won't qualify. We won't lose in Sydney in the second leg, it's just a matter of how well we perform in Montevideo. I'd like us to make it but I really don't give a shit. Regardless of what happens this is the last time we go through this bullshit qualification process. As of January 1 next year we'll be in the Asian confederation, with a much fairer qualification process. ![]() CARN STRAYA! |

Well, Australia down 1-0 at halftime in Montevideo, Dario somethingorother (not silva) scored off a set piece.
Pretty unlucky to be going in behind. Australia looks a lot more disciplined than they were 4 years ago, they kept their shape pretty well, and dominated possession early. Viduka was causing the defence a few problems, but he went a bit quiet later on. This is where Australia capitulated 4 years ago, it'll be intemeresting to see how they react this time. |

1-0 final result, 0-1 deficit now heading to the second leg in Sydney
I was off my head when watching the game this morning so can't remember much but fuck when you consider Uruguay beat Argentina etc at Montevideo then a 1-0 loss, having had better possession, is a pretty fucking good result. However I believe we're fucked, I thought we had to score over there. I can see them scoring here which means we need 3 goals to win overall. However they play shit away from home. Who the fuck knows, I'll just get pissed and enjoy it

Who gives a fuck about the game, when I'm pissed in the stadium I can't guarantee I won't just piss myself laughing when they play that ridiculous Uruguay anthem
.Dunno, chasing the tie may be good for Australia, the last 2 they've gone into the second leg ahead and thrown it away. Hopefully 'times are changing'. And that side definitely has 3 goals in them, and Uruguay are fucking woeful away from home. So yeah, go australia! |
