My guess was the concussion was a result of him falling in a heap on the ice pretty suddenly but that didnt explain why he fell in a heap in the first place.

There are teams that have only played 1 game this year.

Ok, let me put this is terms you might understand.

Edmonton was not expected to win, but they did.
They definitely weren't expected to shutout their opponent given the amount of goals allowed last season, they did.
The last place team was not really expected to beat a playoff bubble team, they did.

Hence, huge upset.

As for being newbie thread, its humouring that you say that as I am certain I could recall answers to hockey questions faster then you can google them.

And Colorado wasn't expected to beat the Hawks, but they did. How about Phoenix beating Boston? Columbus beating the Sharks?

You are vastly overreacting to a opening night win. NHL Network, Versus, and ESPN all showed highlights of that game - none of them made as big of a deal out of the game as you are.

Shit - I'm more impressed with what the Leafs are doing than the one win the Oilers had on Friday.

As for your "certainty"? I'm just going to stop you right there and say "not a chance in hell". And since we are on a message board and we will never cross paths in real life - we'll just move along.

Are you seriously trying to be a troll?

Colorado had a good team last year with virtually no changes besides a year more experience for players like Duchene, O'Reilly, Stewart, etc. Playing against a team ravaged in the offseason by salary cap constraints and missing two of their core players in Campbell and Sharp, so the win is less then shocking.

Phoenix finished 4th last year in the league, against a team missing its best setup man and a rookie goalie in net, real shocked at the outcome there.

San Jose and Columbus previous game was fairly close, considering the talent on San Jose vastly outnumbers that on Columbus, so a bit unexpected but not really shocking.

However again, a team not even expected to win, manages to shutout their opponents and score four goals on one of the best goalies in the league.

Clearly that is not an accomplishment at all.

ESPN made a bigger deal out of 3 minutes in a Miami Heat preseason game than any hockey game that has been played this season. Are you really trying to use sports networks reactions to justify your argument, Joey Slugs.

Yes last year for both of those examples, again I want to reiterate that both those teams have been virtually unchanged since last season.

Colorado made very few changes during the offseason, while as you know Chicago effectively moved to Atlanta.

Phoenix had a strong team last year and had very few players even approaching 80 points, they were also virtually unchanged.

The Oilers didnt beat the Soviet National (Not All-Star) Team, but they put up an impressive win where they were the underdogs, you cant deny that and if you do there really is no point in arguing with you.

Love Subban's compete level. The guy clearly isn't intimidated by anyone, be it Sidney Crosby or Dion Phaneuf. Having said that, I think he might be well advised to tone it down a little...otherwise he might be susceptible to cheap shots. Showing a lack of respect to opposing superstar players is one thing, but it could come back and bite one in the ass.
