Meh. I guess all that they actually did show was cool and all, I just don't see myself using most of it. I don't wanna drop like $500 to combine my TV and cable remote or use Skype

I am just getting online now and missed the show. I rather not go through this thread and other media circles - I just need the full show. I wanna watch it unfiltered by opinions already out there. My brother and I watched the first 5 minutes and saw the box. Both of us said it was really a throwback to the first Xbox.

Ain't digging Kinect being thrown in and all voice command junk. And along with no backwards compatibility and a chance of a fee for used games, I'll probably hold back on this.

Oh, and has the always on internet rumor been confirmed?

I will hold off to see how this whole thing goes. The good ol' 360 still have life in it. As it stands right now though, i'm leaning towards PS4.

Some interesting news. Gonna go in detail on my blog.

The game sharing went how I thought, more or less how XBLA games are tied to your account. Lending it to a buddy requires him to essentially buy the game to play it. Unless you're signed in to his box at the time, then it simply plays (should be smooth with the cloud thing).

Gamestop should be fairly pissed, though. You can however, trade and sell games digitally, in a process they didn't specify yet. That may be a game changer, but as I said on FB game sharing as we know it is dead on Xbox.

This strikes me as stupid, if he's accurate. I don't think this would be a dealbreaker for me, but I honestly don't like the shit I've been seeing. My Xbox is always connecting anyway, but what really has me down on the XB1 is that the majority of the features they showed I could care less about, and the odd way they are handling the used/barrowed game situation is essetially DRM without saying its DRM.

I get that they want their system to be an entertainment hub, but some people just want a plain ol' gaming console. I dont need (or want) Kinect, I dont care about voice or hand prompts, and I sure as hell dont appreciate a console telling me what I can do with the games I buy.

So unless things drastically change between now and launch, i'll probably be keeping my 360 and buying a PS4.

A sad trend today is people reaching fairly far to find criticism with Xbox One, even though the issues don't require such effort. In a sense, this is a good sign for Microsoft. People are already ignoring the key issues for petty shit.

And ultimatly being suspiciously tight lipped about the questions their audience REALLY wants to know the answers for at a conference full of people just talking in corporate buzzspeak. Then having to look that shit up that someone posted online? No, you just had a conference that should have made that legwork unneccessary!

The demo then switched to a 1080p live color feed of the room, which was unimpressive on its own to anyone with a decent webcam. What was more impressive was the Active Infrared feed, which showed a night-vision style greyscale view of the room at high resolution, even when the room was pitch black (or only lit by a flashlight). This should help for things like computer vision algorithms, which have previously needed extremely bright and consistent lighting conditions to detect certain details in the flat images provided by the Kinect's RGB camera (and yes, the depth-sensing works in the dark as well).

After a quick demo of how the new Kinect's four-microphone array can filter out distracting sounds from a TV speaker, I jumped in front of the camera to test how the new Kinect's improved skeletal tracking worked. The first thing I noticed was a complete absence of the kind of lag and jumpiness that so often characterized avatars on the original Kinect. The second thing I noticed was the way the on-screen skeleton could detect even small motions like a rotating wrist or a shrugging shoulder.

When the avatar in the demo changed from a skeleton to a thicker person made of blocks, it showed how the new Kinect could easily detect which direction I was looking as I tilted my head at the neck. It can also measure the amount of force being put on either side of the body, Wii Balance Board style, and project the force of a punch or a kick based on the speed of the fist behind it.

The creepiest part of the Kinect demo was when the system used a combination of the RGB and IR cameras to detect my pulse rate just by looking at my face. Not only that, but the system could tell when I was smiling and/or looking away from the screen and tell which of two controllers I was holding, even as I handed one off to the demonstrator (a process the PR rep said worked by "magic").

It's still hard to say whether the new Kinect is truly responsive and high-resolution enough to fulfill the promise of controller-free, motion-based games. Still, the improvements to the raw specs, combined with the fact that literally every Xbox One owner will have a Kinect right out of the box, have us tentatively excited about the potential that developers will be able to squeeze from it.
