I say don't re-draft. I know not a lot of people made it, but only 1 or 2 people actually said they could not make it, so no one changed the draft time. If more of you would have said something then maybe you could have made the draft, but you didn't so too bad.

K, so here's my 25-man team:
C - Michael Barrett 1B - Chad Tracy 2B - Tadahito Iguchi SS - Jimmy Rollins 3B - Eric Chavez LF - Jason Bay CF - Ryan Freel RF - Bobby Abreu UTIL - Matt Holliday BN - J.D. Drew BN - Brad Wilkerson BN - Bill Mueller BN - Matt Murton Plenty of great fallback OF options........and if need be I can always stick Bay in CF and have Murton or Holliday in LF. Only spots I don't have backups for are C and SS.........obviously a backup C is pointless but I might drop Mueller and pick up a fallback SS option like O-Cab, Uribe, or Vizquel, what do you think? SP - Dontrelle Willis SP - Josh Beckett SP - Brad Radke SP - Matt Clement SP - Brad Penny RP - Brad Lidge RP - Bobby Jenks RP - Chad Orvella RP - Juan Rincon P - Aaron Heilman P - Carlos Silva BN - Rafael Soriano I love that rotation personally, but that's just me. |

Yo Roxer, you have Konerko, Giambi, Thome, and Hillenbrand and crappy middle infielders. I have Rollins and Belliard and crappy first basemen. LETS MAKE A DEAL

re-drafting isn't fair for those that made it. I loathe my team, however it's my fault for not A) being there and B) not pre drafting. That's my take on it.
Splichuk, I'm waiting on you man, but it's getting tough as I have another tempting offer. |

I should get in on all this wheeling and dealing going on. I'd like a few A's if possible. I.E. Chavez, Zito, Harden, Street, and others.

With that team I posted, some guy in my league (the one who didn't make it and got stuck with Clemens) said he'd trade him for pretty much anybody
Should I try offering up my shittiest player and let Clemens stay on the bench until he makes an official decision? If he plays, it'd probably be the ultimate low-risk/high-reward |

Well Clemens prolly has the same chance of playing as JD Drew so that'd be a fair deal.

I like not having wins and losses. The stats should be things the pitcher can control.

I agree, and I don't think GIDP should be in there anyway. If you want to award ground-ball pitchers, GO/AO is a better stat.

It's a beautiful thing when a reliever wins you the wins pitching catergory with a Sunday win. gotta have wins.

No way Reitsma is going to close all year.
Schmidt could easily strike out 200 guys and post a sub 3.00 ERA. Reitsma isn't even a second tier closer, he sucked in the role last year and will probably lose the job to Devine eventually. No way they're even close. |

I kind of like not having wins too. It's almost an offensive stat as much as it is a pitching stat.

If my rotation is
Dontrelle Willis (FLA) Scott Kazmir (TB) Felix Hernandez (SEA) Aaron Harang (CIN) , and yours is Mike Mussina (NYY) John Thomson (ATL) Matt Morris (SF) Jason Johnson (CLE) , you are going to kill me in wins despite the fact that I have 4 great pitchers and you have 4 ok ones |

Well drafting guys that are good in ERA, wins, strikeouts is important strategy. It's no different like in hockey when you draft goalies. Sure it's a no brainer to go after the Brodeur's but you've got to think about what the categories are that your league is set up for and pick guys that will help you win the categories. It's not so much about picking the best talent that's there, it's about picking guys that get the job done.
I know for a fact, wins are something people were expecting to see as a pitching stat. |

I agree, which is why I think you should never change the categories after the draft has already taken place. The people who showed up for it, if they were smart, knew that wins wasn't a category and drafted accordingly. If you are against re-drafting because it's unfair to the people who showed up, I don't see how you can be for changing the categories after the draft, its just as unfair to those people.

I can appreciate that, but the difference is, most people assumed it was there, anyway... I'm for wins, just as I was for holds and how saves is included.

Just got this crazy-ass trade proposal:
I give: Jason Bay, Matt Holliday, Dontrelle Willis I get: Manny Ramirez, Torii Hunter, Pedro Martinez Ridiculous, but I'm more than likely not gonna take it. Manny is probably slightly better than Bay at best, Holliday is gonna be a beast. Pedro's gonna have more wins than Willis, but the toe makes him a question mark. Besides, my main weakness is pitching....and I might be close to acquiring Carlos Zambrano for the price of Eric Chavez (the guy is loaded at pitching but no offense outside of Pujols....plus he has a love affair with Chavez) |

I wish I had seen that wins wasn't a category before the draft. I wouldn't have taken Mark Buehrle and Cliff Lee as my first 2 starters.

Made some more moves today:
-Dropped Rafael Soriano for Neal Cotts because Cotts may be closing instead of Jenks -Also dropped Bill Mueller and picked up Mike Lowell. I don't think Lowell's gonna suck as bad as he did last year, especially not in Fenway with the lineup he's in. If the proposed Chavez deal works out, this would be my likely starting lineup: C - Barrett 1B - Tracy 2B - Iguchi SS - Rollins 3B - Lowell LF - Bay CF - Freel/Drew/Wilkerson.....really not sure who to start yet. I'm also considering starting Matt Murton in LF and shifting Bay here. RF - Abreu UTIL - Holliday And if Lowell were to falter, Tracy should get 3B eligibility after a few days and then I can move him there with Freel or Wilky manning 1B |

Had another draft today. 8 teams, 26 guy rosters....and most guys are starting because the commish doesnt like to have too many bench guys. So almost everybody earns points:
C - Hernandez 1B - Tex 2B - Belliard SS - Rollins 3B - Ensberg CI - General MI - Garciaparra IF - Berkman LF - Matsui CF - Hunter RF - Tracy OF - Floyd OF - Holliday Util - Huff P - Unit SP - Zambrano SP - Lackey RP - Mo RP - C. Cordero RP - Valverde P - K. Escobar (available in either SP or RP) P - Todd Jones P - Kazmir P - M. Gonzalez BN - Rincon BN - Timlin I really like this team. Its loaded but every team is in this league. Now I just have to hope that 2 of Lackey/Escobar/Zambrano don't start Opening Day so I'll be able to slide both Rincon and Timlin in. |

For missing Dave's draft, I'm satisfied with my team. I wouldn't mind striking up a deal for a cloer though (Danbury Mets?)
