Yeah, but keeping Pace costs us a shitload of money. Plus the fact that we got rid of Bennett makes me think that Holt is staying, which is added money. He is due a bonus March 3rd or something.

So Matt Cassell and Mike Vrabel for a 2nd round pick
If anyone needed further proof that the Patriots are a bunch of cheating peices of shits, there you have it. They gift wrapped these 2 players to there boy Pioli for basically nothing. If there is truely a God, he'll have the Patriots be knocked out of the playoffs or playoff contention by K.C next year. One can only hope these cheating sons of cunt whore bitches get what they fucking deserve. |

RP ladies and gentlemen.
In all seriousness though, Cassell could be a bust. Could be. Also, love the Henry for Kitna deal. Almost cried when I saw that. Lions sign Bryant Johnson to a 3 year 9 million deal. Mayhew is doing good things in Detroit |

We all know that the Pats/Cheifs trade is 'questionable'. earlier in this same page i mentioned that this feels like tampering, or something very similiar. Next thing you know, the Chiefs will trade Tony Gonzales to the Pats for Chris Baker, and a replica of the Vince Lombardi Trophy

Vrabel is at the end of his career. Cassell could be a rob johnson or scott mitchell. How are the pats cheaters and how would they benefit by "gift wraping for nothing". they get a good 2nd round pick and free up 17mil in cap space, which allows seymore and wilfork to sign deals and possible a good free agent signing. Also, it was reported that the other teams who wanted cassell wouldn't give up a 1st round pick. Detriot wouldn't give up either one and I don't remember who the other team was. So, were the raiders cheaters when they delt the pats moss for a 4th round pick? |

but the more the reports are coming out, no one wanted to take a chance possible the next rob johnson or scott mitchell and teams wouldn't give up a 1st round pick... heck, the Pats only got a 1st round pick for Bledsoe who at that time was worth a hell of a lot more then cassell... I guess even back then they were cheating, huh RP? trying to make the bills better... |

A bit of bad news.
From ESPN.com Lions' Smith, Raiders' Cooper missing CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Coast Guard was searching off Florida's Gulf Coast on Sunday for a fishing boat carrying NFL players Corey Smith and Marquis Cooper and two other men missing nearly a day in choppy seas. Smith and Cooper were on a 21-foot vessel that left Clearwater Pass for a fishing trip Saturday morning and did not return as expected, the Coast Guard said Sunday. Crews used a helicopter and a 47-foot boat to search a 750-square mile area west of Clearwater Pass, but poor weather made the search difficult. Officials did not receive a distress signal from the missing craft. "We are in contact with the Coast guard and Corey's family has been informed," Smith's agent Ron Del Duca told ESPN.com's Bill Williamson. "Corey is one of the good guys out there. We're just waiting for more information and hoping for the best." Troy Asmus, one of Cooper's agents, said he has been in contact with the NFL and that the league is aware of the situation. "I have been in contact with the Coast Guard and they are continuing to work hard to find everyone," Asmus told Williamson. "We are hoping and praying for the best." Cooper owns the boat and he and Smith have been on fishing trips before, Del Duca said. The pair had been teammates on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2004. The Coast Guard said two others were aboard, identified as Will Bleakley and Nick Schuyler. The St. Petersburg Times on its Web site identified them as former University of South Florida players. Calls to the school by The Associated Press were not immediately returned. Coast Guard Capt. Timothy M. Close said the weather early Saturday had been fair, but worsened toward the evening as a front still battering the area moved in. The National Weather Service said seas were about 2 to 4 feet Saturday morning and increased to 3 to 5 feet in the afternoon. Late Saturday night, a small craft advisory was issued, when winds were around 20 knots and seas were up to 7 feet or more. There were no thunderstorms in the area. Close said the men were traveling in a boat manufactured by Everglades. At least one of the men was an experienced boater, and relatives provided the Coast Guard with GPS coordinates from previous fishing expeditions. Close said there was no communication with the men even before the weather started to pick up. They were expected home by early evening. No sign of them or the boat had been spotted by late Sunday afternoon. Poor weather conditions could be dangerous for a boat the size of Cooper's. "A 21-foot boat is a relatively small vessel to be 50 miles off shore in bad weather conditions, certainly the current weather conditions," Close said. The Coast Guard search was mainly taking place by air, and was hampered by the poor weather, Close said. He said there were 14-foot seas offshore and wind gusts of up to 30 mph. Water depth in the area where they are searching ranges from 20 to 50 feet. Close said there was no sign yet that the men sent a distress signal. "That's not to say they didn't send one out," he said. "We didn't receive anything." Smith, 29, had 30 tackles, including three sacks, and an interception in 12 games last season for the winless Lions. Smith, who is 6-foot-2, 250 pounds, also played for the San Francisco 49ers and played college ball at North Carolina State. He lives in Richmond, Va. Del Duca said Smith was planning to start visiting teams as a free agent this week. "They've assured me that they're deploying all available resources to look for these guys and get them back," he said. Cooper, 26, has played five seasons with the Buccaneers, Seahawks, Jaguars, Steelers and Raiders. He appeared in 26 games with the Buccaneers in 2004 and 2005, recording 30 tackles. He has played sparingly since as he has bounced between teams, appearing in 13 games and recording 10 tackles. Cooper, who is 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, played college ball at Washington. His hometown is Mesa, Ariz., and his father Bruce is a prominent sportscaster for KPNX-TV in Phoenix. Rick Davis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Tampa, said the water was "extremely rough and choppy" on Sunday afternoon. Lions spokesman Bill Keenist and Raiders senior executive John Hererra said the teams are monitoring reports. "First and foremost, however, is that our thoughts and prayers are with all the passengers, their families and all those involved in the search efforts," the Lions said in a team release. |

The plot thickens...
Apparently there was a three team deal in the works where Cassel would've gone to the Broncos, Cutler would've gone to Tampa, and the Pats would've received the 12th overall pick in the draft. A couple reports have said Denver nixed the deal but more sources say it was New England that said no. If New England did veto the deal and decide to trade Cassel for the 34th pick instead of the 12th, that's a bit of a head scratcher. Now I'm not going to accuse the Patriots of cheating because there's no proof, but if this was in fact a clean deal, there are an awful lot of coincidences. |

Jesus, I hate the pats more than any of you ever could.
But how is this "cheating" They can trade whomever they want to anyone they want. If they get a lower pick, how does that help them AT ALL? Cassell is due 14 million this year and then he can walk. No one was putting more than a second into him, because he could be a bust, or walk. That Pats gained nothing out of this, so how are they cheating? |

I don't think they cheated personally, but there is cause for suspicion. Scott Pioli, the new GM for the Chiefs, was basically did everything in his power to save Belichick's ass during Spygate. Belichick and Pioli are very close and Belichick might have wanted to help Pioli start his team in KC. So KC gets two very good players for next to nothing and the Pats get to dump salary. Basically trying to keep it in the family. Like a consortium of sorts.
The Pats would've theoretically received a much better value by dealing with the Broncos but given Belichick's animosity towards Mangini, it's very possible that Belichick wouldn't want to help out McDaniels in any way. Plus it's rumored that Belichick tipped off the Boston Globe about Cutler being in trade talks to stir up something in Denver which it totally has. |

Again, I don't think there's anything wrong with what they did, but Belichick and Pioli put themselves in this position to have their motives questioned.

The even bigger head scratcher is why the fuck the Broncos would even entertain getting rid of Cutler and for Cassell even. Cutler is gunna be incredible this year I think and he's gunna be a HoF QB. The guy has a rocket arm. He can be clutch. He sometimes makes dumb mistakes, but he's only played for like 2 years. Cutler is and will be way better then Cassell.

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Coast Guard said Monday that the overturned boat it found off Florida's Gulf Coast belongs to Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper. The survivor found clinging to the vessel is former University of South Florida player Nick Schuyler.
The Coast Guard said Cooper, free-agent defensive end Corey Smith and another former USF player, William Bleakley, remain missing. Television video showed Schuyler being helped from a Coast Guard helicopter at Tampa General Hospital. He appeared conscious. The Coast Guard had been searching for the four men since they were reported missing early Sunday morning, one day after they left on a fishing trip. As of Monday morning, the Coast Guard had searched 16,000 square miles off Florida's Gulf Coast for the 21-foot Everglades-manufactured boat. Everglades boats are built with compressed foam encased in Fiberglas, which makes them difficult or impossible to sink. Family members believed the men had lifejackets and flares on board. The Coast Guard hadn't received a distress signal from the men. Cooper owns the boat, and he and Smith, who were teammates with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2004, have been on fishing trips before, according to Ron Del Duca, Smith's agent. Coast Guard Capt. Timothy M. Close said at least one of the men was an experienced boater, and relatives provided the Coast Guard with GPS coordinates from previous fishing expeditions. Smith, 29, of Richmond, Va., is 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds and had 30 tackles, including three sacks and one interception in 12 games last season for the winless Detroit Lions. Cooper, 26, is 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds and has spent five seasons with five different teams, appearing in 26 games with the Buccaneers in 2004 and 2005, but he has played sparingly since. He grew up in Gilbert, Ariz., and his father, Bruce, is a prominent sportscaster for KPNX-TV in Phoenix. That's bad bad news for the NFL guys |

That's exactly it, some espn guy had a quote from a nfl exec saying something like "anyone who would think Belicheck would do anything to help another team, that wasn't in his teams best interest doesn't know Belicheck".
Scoot Pioli is Parcells son in law, the Denver coach grew up under belicheck... so... why wouldn't he help Denver? The last report I saw was Tampa Bay made an offer in a 3way deal, that had the pats getting a 1st and 3rd, but when they sent over the deal the Pats had already signed off on the other deal. |

I find it hard to believe that the Patriots and Chiefs are conspiring together when the Chiefs could end up competing with the Patriots for a playoff spot in the future. If they really valued Cassel and Vrabel that much, they could've traded him to the Bucs or any other NFC team to keep him out of the AFC and avoid taking the chance of the move burning them in the long run.
Really, I guess I'm in the minority here that doesn't think the Patriots did a favor for the Chiefs. I was never really all that impressed with Cassel (even in that game against the Jets where he threw for like 400 yards he wasn't that impressive...over/underthrowing receivers a lot and typically holding the ball too long), and Vrabel's just about finished. Kansas City's second rounder is just a few picks removed from being a first rounder, so it's a damn good deal for them IMO. |

Redskins release Jason Taylor after only one year. Trading a 2nd round pick for him looks pretty retarded now.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh chooses the Seahawks. They finally have a #1 receiver...now let's see if Hasselbeck can bounce back with a healthy season. Kurt Warner is visiting with the 49ers. |
