That Mets game today took absolutely everything out of me. I started watching in the 5th and little did I know the game was only a third of the way over. Beltran's catch was amazing.

I thought Morneau would have another good season, but I expected a significant drop off. Looks like he's proving, even in on a team that doesn't offer him much protection (Imagine what he could do with real protection) that he's a chick thrilla.

And I guess having Cuddyer (.362 OBP) and Mauer (.403 OBP) on base ahead of him doesn't affect the pitches Morneau gets. Morneau has as strong of a lineup directly before and after him as any player in the league this season, which is why he is among the league leaders in all offensive categories this season. I don't know what you consider "protection," but if having Hunter behind you this season is not protection I don't know what is. Sure, maybe he would have better stats with Ichiro and A-Rod in front of him and Pujols and Bonds behind him, but as it stands the Twins 1-6 hitters are among the best in the league. Morneau is as "protected" as any player in the league. |

You know I gotta be honest, I am really looking forward to watching the Futures game today. I've never watched it with much interest before but this year I dunno. I'm pumped.

Yeah, looking forward to that. Yankees only have 1 guy going this year I think, but I'm looking forward to seeing him pitch.

The Reds have two guys in the game including Joey Votto who hopefully by this time next year will have the coolest name in the majors.

Yeah, they need to get more consistent hitting though. They could score 0 runs one day and then 10 runs the next day easily.
I know its a huge hole to climb out of but I do think the Yankees will make it interesting in the division though. Not taking anything away from the Red Sox but I don't think they are unstoppable. Pretty sure they've had a record under .500 the last month or so. |

Red Sox have been really struggling lately against teams over .500. They got swept by Seattle, and are about to be swept by Detroit if they don't pull something out of their asses in the 8th or 9th.

The Yankees have a chance at getting to the playoffs. The chances aren't very good but I think we can at least slide in to the wildcard. It won't be easy but I really don't think the Yankees are going to roll over and die. Edit: I didn't know the Red Sox all ready lost the game with Dice K on the mound? I was almost positive that the Red Sox game started at 7. Now the Yankees are 10 games back. Really not so bad. Last edited by Hardkore Kidd J; 07-08-2007 at 06:58 PM. |

The Mets REALLY need some offense. Scary statistic: the last time the Mets won a game in which their starter has given up more than 3 runs is May 17th.

Mark Buehrle has signed a 4-year extension with the White Sox.
I dunno, doesn't seem like this year is gonna be a very entertaining trade deadline unless the Yanks fall out of it and start trading everybody. |

I'm telling ya, I was a little concerned with the way the Tigers were playing at the beginning of this homestand. After the last 2 against the Indians, and the way they won each game against the Red Sox, they are poised to make a run at the World Series again. There should be no more criticism against them as they beat the top two teams in the AL this week
And whereas there will be criticism, after the All star break we get Rodney back mid month and in either Aug or September, we get Zumaya. Tigers still need to make a big deal at the deadline for a quality reliever. The other trades they have made are decent, but they need a guy that is go to. If Rodney doesnt come back as strong, I'd package him in a deal with a young pitcher (that's the way it is lately with Detroit) and trade him to Texas and either pick up Otsuka or Gagne |

The Futures Game was pretty entertaining. Deolis Guerra of the Mets impressed me even though he gave up a dinger. Throwing 95 at age 18.

.638 of the time, Cuddyer is not on base and therefore offers no protection to Morneau. .597 of the time, Mauer does not get on base and therefore offers no protection to Morneau. Then there are the times that those two get more than a single and therefore open up 1st base in front of Morneau, which offers him virtually no protection.
I already said Hunter provides protection. He does for every at bat in which he hits behind Morneau. |

I dunno if I can get down with that argument Hero. He had the same lineup around him last year and he won the MVP. And Cuddyer really is one of the most underappreaciated players in baseball.

Morneau provides protection to Cuddyer because he bats behind him. No player on any team offers protection to another player that bats in front of him.
I've never stated that Cuddyer isn't valuable. All I ever said was I expected a drop off in Morneau's production this year. One reason I gave it was that Morneau does not have much protection behind him. |

All-Star Game Lineups:
AMERICAN LEAGUE Ichiro Suzuki, cf Derek Jeter, ss David Ortiz, 1b Alex Rodriguez, 3b Vladimir Guerrero, rf Magglio Ordonez, lf Ivan Rodriguez, c Placido Polanco, 2b Dan Haren, p NATIONAL LEAGUE Jose Reyes, ss Barry Bonds, lf Carlos Beltran, cf Ken Griffey Jr., rf David Wright, 3b Prince Fielder, 1b Russell Martin, c Chase Utley, 2b Jake Peavy, p LOL Utley batting 8th. Not really. What are you supposed to do when every one of your hitters hits 3rd or 4th normally.

Bonds batting 2nd makes sense cause he gets on base a lot. I'd rather see Griffey or Wright batting 3rd over Beltran.

Honestly, if Alou can stay healthy for the rest of the year, I think he's a good enough bat and negates the need to deal for a fill-in. |
