I would argue he is the best DE..

I know you're gonna say Jason Taylor but Freeney is still mad young and already dominate.. Taylor is looking for acting roles and shit.. He'll never have another year like he did in '06..

Freeney only had 5.5 sacks last season though, kind of an odd time to get a huge free agent contract isn't it?

He still has a big impact on that D though obviously, allowing others to get free'd up etc but he is an elite pass rusher, you'd expect more then just 5 and 1/2 sacks in a year.

Bob Sanders is the glue (and the best player) on that defensive though, how much time is left on his deal?

He had a shoulder injury and a knee injury that lingered from the beginning of training camp. Plus he was rarely double teamed. Most of the time he was triple teamed by either a formation specifically designed for his side or by olinemen and RBs and TE's blocking him and chipping at him from every direction.

The thing about the deal is that it only counts as 5.7 million this year and i think a tad bit more next.. not alot. Sure not 9 million and 11 million that it woulda cost us. According to John Clayton, because of this deal, we're under the cap by about 4 or 5 million ( if i remember reading correctly ). And that we'll have even more cap space when we release Corey Simon here soon and the cap is suppose to go up next year by about 4 or 5 million maybe more i dont remember. So we'll be able to sign Bob Sanders and Tarik Glenn who i think our both up next year.

And RP before you flip out, I realize he was double team and was focused on...but so wasn't everyone other elite pass rusher in the NFL

But Freeney is going into his what, fifth season?? Like Reggie Bush, he's numbers don't nessarsarily reflect his impact.. Drawing double teams, making Off Coordinators have to gameplay for him, etc..

Oh yeah without a doubt Freeney is a great player, I think this past season was the only time he didn't make the Probowl, but just because he frees up other players and coordinators plan around him doesn't make him the best. One big reason why I think that is because is an outstanding pass rusher but is he great against the run? I personally don't think he is

Still though, he is a top 5 DE in the NFL..that's how good of a pass rusher he is

I personally think Julius Peppers is the best DE in the NFL, he can do it all and do it all extremely well. He is great against the pass, the rush and can even drop back into coverage. He had 13 sacks, hit the QB 38 times, deflected 12 passes and forced 3 fumbles last season. Dude is a monster

Anderson has had comparisons to Peppers. I dunno if he will be as great as Peppers but many think he will have a good career.

If anything, Jamaal Anderson will be at the very least the next Reggie White.

On a completely unrelated note, I hear Justin Blalock will end up being the next Gene Upshaw and Chris Houston is on track to be the next Deion Sanders.

We face the Vikings week 1. I remember what happened like 6 years ago when we faced the Vikes. Vick burned there asses. We got a tough schedule. I'd be suprised if he even got 2000 yards. But theres 5 games I'm looking out for. When we face the Rams, Saints, Saints, Jags, and the Colts.
