Aaron Rowand is one of the most overrated players in baseball.

Yeah, Ichiro's probably one of the few players who deserves the kinda money he's gonna be making.

Interleague has run its course. I would rather see the Twins play the Yankees and Red Sox once or twice more per year than see them play any National League opponent. Most people outside of New York or Chicago would probably agree.

I dunno I like interleague, I like seeing the Red Sox play a different team I haven't seen in a while rather then some team like the Rangers

Personally, and I know a lot of Americans don't share this opinion, but I like having things separated. I love how in soccer you have a bunch of domestic leagues, then Champions League and UEFA Cup. When you mix them together for the big tournaments, you get a mixture of different styles, players and cultures. So I think it was awesome in baseball how the American and National leagues have been separate, and I still think there are distinct differences. I can see why NBA does conferences and what not, but that makes the whole playoff system kind of arbitrary. If there is nothing separating the leagues, why not have the two best teams be the top seeds, rather than pitting "east against west"?

Well in the NBA you play teams in your own conference twice as much as those outside of it, so it kinda makes sense since your records could be skewed due to your oppopents. Also I am assuming travel plays a role in the playoff set up. I personally wouldn't be against the NBA taking the top 16 teams though. Still not a fan of the seperation though, I don't see the point.

Interleague has its adv/disadv
Adv- You get to see your teams play interleague against teams you rarely play. It boosts ticket sales and clubs make more money off the games. Disadv- The ASG and WS has lost some of its luster because of interleague play. |

The only thing with interleague is some teams get really good draws a play a lot of shitty teams, where as another team might have to face tougher opponents. I think teams within a division play pretty much all the same teams as the other teams in their division don't they though? (well outside of the "natural rivalry" games) While that could still fuck up the wildcard it isn't really THAT bad since you play teams within your division 19 times, so if you are in a weaker division you would benefit from that too where as another team fighting for the same wildcard spot wouldn't.

Rickey Henderson should just play for Rickey Ledee instead of telling him how to hit

Rickey would probably still be better off the bench than Julio Franco. Pretty sure he's a few months younger.

I read an article some months ago where Ricky was trying to make the return. He even commented about being in better condition than most MLB'ers. Conditioning doesn't = success, but he was probably right, I doubt that guy is ever out of shape.
Oh and LOL, he said he would do better than Franco if memory serves me correct. |

I could totally see Rickey taking some practice swings/running/conditioning as he's coaching...and then next thing you know they DFA Franco and Rickey becomes a player/coach.

Yankees wanted to start up talks with A-Rod this week on an extension before the madness started up at the end of the season. A-Rod's answer, "We'll talk at the end of the season".
Good sign. Or bad sign? |

With Boras as his agent, bad. If A-Rod finishes up with a monster year, he might opt out and get an even BIGGER deal with another team.
Nice pitching by the Mets tonight...hopefully once they select either Henderson or HoJo as their hitting coach, the bats can heat up again. Gotay making a point that he should be playing everyday. ![]() |

Yeah, that definitely isn't a good sign. I don't see him not testing free agency. That means he opts out and would lose the Yankees quite a bit of money coming in from Texas, pretty much saying he wouldn't want to be here. I dunno, I just don't think Cashman will be involved that much if A-Rod opts out.
And Boras is saying he's expecting a minimum of 30 million a year for A-Rod? I never thought I'd see a team give out that much money, but I guess I really wouldn't be all that surprised. Especially with Ichiro just getting 20 million. |

If I was A-Rod I'd be a huge prick about all this contract stuff right now. He got so much shit from everyone and now everyone's sucking his cock like nothing happened.

All the shit he has gotten has been ridiculous. I hate fans booing there own team at any time and when he's still putting up the numbers he was last year it was even more ridiculous. I've seen it too much as a Yankees fan though; I remember when Mo was actually booed during a huge slump a year or two back. Its just crazy. |

I bet several teams will make HUGE offers at A-Rod in the offseason. I do not see him back as a Yankee next season. However you know the Yankees will get a nice player to fill the void.

Following the 2003 season, Texas set out to move Rodriguez and his expensive contract. The Rangers agreed to a trade with the Boston Red Sox, but the MLBPA (Major League Baseball Players Association) vetoed the deal because it called for a voluntary reduction in salary by Rodriguez.

I've always liked A-Rod as a Yankee, I figure the most high-profile player and biggest "bad guy" in the league belongs in pinstripes, but if he is going to demand $30 million it really is time for the Yankees to rebuild.
The Yankees problems will not be solved by A-Rod. As long as they have Jeter and a few of their other guys they will continue to draw and be average. In terms of winning a World Series again, I think they have to take a year to rebuild. I would guess the new stadium is going to nix that plan though and they will continue to spend too much money and not win the World Series. |

Some interesting talks going on about possible big names on the move.
Griffey's been brought up a lot...if the Reds deal him to a contender at this point I'm sure he'd oblige. But I think a lot of teams might be scared by the fact that his contract runs through 2008, where he'll be another year older and he of course has his history of injuries. Surprisingly, Oswalt's name has been brought up as well. Getting him, however, will mean the team will have to inherit his entire contract (including all 2007 salary). He's said he would waive his no-trade clause if trading him would help the organization...but I don't see how trading him possibly could help the Astros in any way. Doubt anything happens there. Lidge's name is also continuously thrown around as it has been all season, as is Dontrelle Willis. |

Why the hell would A-Rod wanna stay in New York? If I was him I would want out too
I wouldn't be surprised to see them offer him some ridiculous contract and have him end up staying though. |

I heard some speculation that A-Rod may return to Seattle as the starting shortstop. Not sure if there were any bridges burned when he went to Texas, or if they'll trade Yuniesky Betancourt, Adrian Beltre, or someone else to make room for A-Rod and his enormous contract, but stranger things have happened.

The Miz will probably correct me, but I don't think there is any way Seattle can afford a $30 million per year player, especially without some other team to eat some of the salary, like Texas has been doing.

Pretty sure a statement was made yesterday by a Yankees insider that if A-Rod opts out they aren't gonna offer him a bigger deal.
Not sure how many other teams would even be able to afford the kind of money he'd be asking. Boston, Cubs, Angels, Mets, White Sox, Dodgers, Giants? Might even be wrong on some of those. |
