According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the deal between the Mariners and Yankees for Cliff Lee “is just about done."

Unreal. The season is over. I'm usually not one to say titles can be won on paper, but with this team...it can be.

Vasquez would probably go to relief, which would tighten up the only bad spot in the team right now...minus the streaky hitting.

I'd love for this to get done in an hour or so, then Lee just switches clubhouses today and pitches today.

If the Yanks don't win the WS this year, it may very well be the biggest postseason embarassment in the history of sports. This Lee trade puts them head and shoulders above the rest of the league, even the other really good teams.

You've obviously never seen the Yankees handle young pitching then. If they don't trade Vasquez then they'll stick Hughes in the pen. They'll mask it as limiting his innings.

Thank god. Anybody but the Phillies or Yanks (well, the Braves too but they have no interest).

I mean, we all pretty much know Lee will be headed to the Bronx in November anyway cause the Yanks will probably be the only team willing to give $100M+ to a 32 year old pitcher. But it keeps my slim hopes of the Mets getting him alive.

I've already pegged the Reds and Rangers as the two teams I'd pull for in the playoffs if they made it and the Mets didn't. I always like having a rooting interest and it's hard not to pull for a team that's in their first playoffs after a lengthy absence.

Still don't think the Rangers will have enough pitching to go deep in the playoffs. But you gotta applaud them for going all out here.

Apparently the Rangers gave up a little more because Seattle is paying some of the money he is still owed.

Not too heartbroken over this. He wasn't a necessity to the Yankees and they get to keep Montero. Never a fan of giving up big prospects for half year rentals. Also good that the Rangers are obviously not able to sign him to an extension and Lee has said he wants to go to free agency.

Sort of surprised on him going to the Rangers since it is a division rival but at the same time Seattle knew they need to rebuild and didn't want to waste rest of the season or let him go for nothing as a free agent.

Rangers basically pulled a Milwaukee and favored the guarantee of being in the playoffs knowing the Angels are having a down year and might rebound the next season.

Jason Bay's probably going to be batting 6th once Beltran comes back after the ASB. Everybody said his defense would kill the Mets, but his D has been fine, it's his bat that has killed the Mets. I don't trust him at all in a big spot, and it's reminding me of Beltran's first year in NY in 2005. The guy is getting booed every time he folds in the clutch.

Really, really hope that Jerry plans on benching Francoeur. Pagan deserves the playing time more than him, and Beltran/Bay pretty much have to play.

Paul Konerko replaces Justin Morneau on the AL All Star Roster, Cabrera to start at 1B.

Heyward and Reyes are also both out. Furcal seems like the likely replacement for Reyes. Manuel will probably end up taking Jayson Werth even though it should be CarGo or Josh Willingham. Adam Dunn also should definitely be going but there are already 4 1B and Manuel probably won't want to play Dunn in the OF

Also pretty sure the AL will need to name 2 more pitchers. Weaver replaced Sabathia, but Weaver starts tomorrow. Liriano? Romero? Cahill is also starting tomorrow, which would eliminate the only A's rep...so I guess Andrew Bailey would have to go.
