Do they have to pay for travel expenses? Obviously, experience comes into play but I wonder how much more money refs make for playoff games or the Super Bowl.

If the rumors are true, I think the Jags should avoid letting Mike Thomas go just yet. I have a feeling Blackmon isn't going to get much playing time with all this drama he's causing right now.

Pats release Chad Ochocinco after just a single season into his 2-year deal.

Not a huge shock since they stocked up on a few WRs this offseason and their double TE package meant less work needed for WRs. It also didn't help the lockout affected him the most on the team due to the lack of time to get used to the Pats system.

They tried to trade him before the end of the day but nobody was willing to offer anything for him.

I'll admit I fell into the trap a couple years ago. I wanted them to get rid of Coughlin and bring in Cowher.

I'm glad he has stuck around though. Coaching carousels are never a good thing.

I gotta admit, I thought the Giants should have fired Coughlin if they collapsed for the 3rd straight year, just to hit the re-set button on the franchise. But after winning another SB, I'll never call for his firing again. He can stay the Giants coach for life if he wants to.

To be honest, I'd have been tempted to let Coughlin go and start fresh now if I was the Giants, which sounds a bit ridiculous. Yes he's won two Super Bowls out of the blue but they've been incredibly average and underachieved every other year. Can't see what more there is for him to accomplish now. Then again, how the hell do you fire a coach who just won you the Super Bowl.

Ballard was initially hopeful that he could go on the PUP list and be ready late in the year, but even he's conceded that he won't be ready to go until 2013. Giants are going to put him on their reserve PUP/injured list once he clears waivers tomorrow so that he doesn't count against the 90 man roster.

In bigger news, David Diehl got arrested for DWI. I'm sure the team and the league will slap him with a fine. More importantly, I wonder if Goodell will hit him with a 4 game suspension. Where Diehl plays was pretty much going to determine the configuration of the line as well as who's on the bench. But if he misses the start of the year I guess they'd be going with: Beatty-Boothe-Baas-Snee-Locklear.

Diehl could replace the weakest link out of Beatty/Boothe/Locklear once her returns.
