Did WWE miss the boat with Kozlov?
I dunno, I think he wasnt that bad and with the popularity of MMA, I think they could've made an MMA character for him, sorta like ken Shamrock. I think Kozlov couldve done a lot more in the WWE, he was solid enough in the ring, good and agile/fast for a big man and decent on microphone. WWE was too quick to turn him into a joke character imo and that HHH feud really hurt him.

He didn't have 'the look' of a 21st century main eventer; maybe back in 70's and 80's but not now. From my memory, he looked clumsy and sluggish in the ring.

They gave him a chance when he feuded with HHH and was in the main event picture on SD for a bit and he couldn't get over.

They tried to make him a main event guy and it did not take.

He was perfect in his odd couple tag team with Santino, though.

Was it him or someone else where they had plans for a mega push without realizing how "green" he was in the ring which ended up killing any plans for a big push?

I know in the past they've killed a push after Vince saw for the first time how small a wrestler was in comparison to all the talk about him.

Agree with the 80s villian comment. Kozlov had one,match I enjoyed, and it was a short, fast paced brawl fest against Festus.

Other than that, Kozlov didnt have much going for him and once it was realuzed it went south for him.

I'm probably one of the few peeps that he possbily had the potential to be a main event guy for a least a short term but they went and turned him into a comedy act instead which was a huge mistake.

I dont get what there was to ruin. The audience just didnt care about him. He beat the Undertaker clean on SmackDown for Christ's sake. If the fans dont get into you after that, what else is there?

I liked him. Not on a "YES!" level but on I basically thought- "Oh cool, he's Russian, he has a "bad ass" gimmick and his music is cool". He should have stuck around to be a mid-carder with some enforcer gimmick or something.

Kozlov had the look and build plus an athletic background, but a generic Russian heel wouldn't work today as Chavo Classic said, plus I didn't buy him as a face.

Also, Santino needed to break away from tag wrestling to freshen his character up (which led to a U.S title push and assistant to GM position) so Kozlov was pretty much done for anyway.
