Great show as always.
La Sombra or whatever tney're calling him now was cool, but I want a win for Dillinger. Guy has a great look, can go, great charisma, and he 's from Niagara Falls so I gotta like him. Tag team match better than their last outing which was already a great match. Rubber match prolly gonna be a ladder match or something. Shinsuke vs areis started off a little slow but got really good later. Love Nakamura, but dude needs to sell more. Had his knee worked on all match, but he never showed as much as a slight limp. Nia Jax deserves serious props. Don't think I've ever seen someone improve so much in so little time. When she first came in she was pretty boring and just did generic "big guy" stuff. This match was great and asuka didn't have to carry Nia. She did her part. Ending was weird and anti climactic but still a really enjoyable match. Joe vs Balor was fantastic as usual. What else can you say? |

Great show with some really good matches.
Tag match got a little sloppy towards the end but I really enjoyed it, interesting to see if they go for a third match or Alpha get called up. A big mark out/WTF moment with Paul Ellering turning up at the end. Nakamura vs Aries was great, but don't think it was MOTY great. Was good to see Nakamura take a beating for once, but he's definitely my favourite at the moment. That DVD on the apron was brutal. The more of Nia Jax I see, the more I like her. She's improving all the time and completely different to the other women we normally see. She needs a new finisher though, slow mo Hogan-esque leg drop doesn't do it for me. Asuka is amazing, I would let her (and Nia thinking about it) do all sorts of nasty things to me ![]() Main event was good and the result was as I expected. No idea if Finn will get called up but it seems as if his time in NXT is done. Muscle Buster from the second rope....ouch. |

Good show. Takeover events are always good, and it's refreshing that they don't always try to reinvent the wheel or do something MASSIVE. Sometimes a good show is enough.
* Tye Dillinger gets it. He's received rave reviews from a lot of the talent that have worked with him and he's really grown into his role. It's hard to believe this is Gavin Spears from the ECW "New Talent Initiative." Props to him. The match with Andrade "Cien" Almas was good. Kind of surprised to see how big Andrade was when it came to size comparison, and his entrance gear was weird and a little off-putting, but it does make him "larger than life." To a degree. They did a good job, earned a "Holy shit!" chant and I felt this was a good way to start off the show. A lot of the house show talent needs to get on NXT television to make it feel different and like it's going somewhere. * The NXT Tag Title match was awesome. Props to Jordan, Gable and The Revival guys for trying to make their matches seem organic. I mean, the spots are clearly planned out, but they try and break the "heels automatically get the advantage" trope. Dash did some great trash talking during this too, and is really emerging as a talent comparable to the already awesome Dawson. I thought the title change was a "Welp, I guess American Alpha are going up" moment, but then The Authors of Pain attacked them. Putting them Paul Ellering gives them instant street cred, and they look like monsters. Maybe they'll beat American Alpha before too long and we'll still see Gable & Jordan go up? This seemed like a way to get the babyfaces away from the title chase while Gargano & Ciampa go for the belts before they eventually end up on TM61. * Nakamura and Aries was good, but I have to be honest: Sometimes that style gets fatiguing. It's en vogue at the moment, but come on guys -- no need to kill yourselves all the time. I dunno what the solution is, but I think Nakamura's programs should have more meaning, I guess. No clue where they go with Aries from here. He trash talks another babyface and gets to steam-roll them a few times? Sure. Nakamura seems primed for a title shot, but I could also see Bobby Roode trying to cut him off and basically say he's the biggest star in NXT and there's a segue TV feud there. * Asuka is really good, but she's kind of been put in death spots following Nakamura, hasn't she? Nia Jax worked really well. Fignuts says she's the most improved in such a short time, but I have to give that nod to Charlotte when she was down there. The Women's Division needs a bit of an oomph. It'll probably get with Bayley. I imagine her first stop is Jax, then she moves onto Asuka for Takeover Brooklyn. * The main event was good, but it made me realize how much I just don't get into Cage Matches. I don't get the door stip. I'm not sure I even like pinfalls in a cage. The classic cages all got their power from the drama of beating your opponent senseless and then climbing over. I'd rather that they worked a match that was based around Joe trying to beat up Balor to "End" things, with the drama being Balor cutting Joe's arrogant attempts to climb out before making a hot run at it himself. The finish was sweet. Joe could have climbed out after that. I think I'd rather have seen Balor win so that Joe is title free ready for a call-up to try and punk out Brock after he loses to Mark Hunt and Heyman cuts a promo saying "There is no bad-ass Samoan like that in WWE." Balor vs. Nakamura would have been fine for Takeover Brooklyn. If I had to guess, here is my Takeover Brooklyn card: * Samoa Joe (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the NXT Championship * Asuka (c) vs. Bayley for the NXT Women's Championship * The Revival (c) vs. TM61 for the NXT Tag Team Championship * Andrade "Cien" Almas & Tye Dillinger vs. The Authors of Pain * Bobby Roode vs. Austin Aries (?) Really hard to call the matches outside the title bouts. It's possible they'll bump the show up to three hours to get some more stuff in and spread out Roode, Aries, Cien, etc. Balor and American Alpha seem like the easiest call-ups to me, but you never know. |

It is entirely possible that Balor doesn't get called up and that some heel punks him out and starts a more personal feud with him. Bobby Roode and Austin Aries are the leading candidates for that. In fact, that probably stacks the SummerSlam show better. If American Alpha don't get called up either (they have a lot of tag teams to establish), then them continuing their feud with The Authors of Pain makes sense. It's only two months until Brooklyn, which means only a few shows. They can lose there and then move up. They might even hold off on TM61 until then and have Gargano & Ciampa run through as challengers. Also possible is some sort of tag team clusterfuck. I'm thinking The Revival vs. American Alpha vs. Ciampa & Gargano vs. The Authors. Some practice for the WrestleMania pre-show.
Throw on Balor vs. Roode and Aries vs. Cien. Or something. If you need a sixth match, I'd do something with the women and introduce a new characters. Adrienne Reese vs. Peyton Royce or something. I can see them wanting to pay service to Nia Jax again and having her go against Reese though. |

I was into the show big time until the Women's match. Auska isn't working for me as champion, I think her challengers have to take the blame for that. Just pull the trigger on Auska/Bailey forever feud.
The tag team title match was fantastic as usual with these guys. Favorite part of the show were the new guys killing everyone, and Paul Ellering?!? Awesome choice, he will be great on NXT. WWE is finally seeing money in the tag division again. I don't think Aries and Nakamarua are great partners in the ring, not a bad match but nowhere near as exciting as Nakamaura/Zayn. I don't think I'm a fan of Aries ever since I watch him drag a match with Seth Rollins over an hour during a blizzard in NYC at ROH making the show go well over four hours. I just don't care for his tactics to get heat or pops and I don't care for his offense. |

And Joe is the man, this is one of those Balor matches where I feel like he is still lacking that something that lots of people say he has.

According to one of the guys on Instagram, this is what the entrance gear for Authors of Pain team looks like.

According to F4W, Vince was the reason why the Alphas lost the tag titles last night.
Might have been the first time he's actually gotten personally involved with NXT booking and probably a strong sign of the Alphas getting called up for the upcoming Brand Split draft. NXT supposed to do a set of tv tapings tonight so it might give a clear idea of the team's future status on NXT. |

It does seem like Finn Balor and American Alpha are the clear call-ups after The End. There are ways to keep them in and make them relevant to the scene, but ultimately, I think it's fairly logical to see them going up.
I was thinking the other day that while many people would hate this, I can see almost all of the tag teams on the main roster being split up. The WWE traditionally hasn't had "deep" tag divisions. The Shining Stars, The Lucha Dragons, The Ascension, The Dudleys -- I can see them all being separated. I can also seem them moving on from The New Day. Weirdly enough, I think The Golden Truth and Breezedango actually have a fairly good shot of staying together. It's all about that "entertainment value" to Vince. It wouldn't surprise me if by the end of things, there are three teams on each brand and that they put together some random ones like Apollo Crews & Big Show or D-Von Dudley & Mark Henry. |

That was the shit that killed tag team wrestling in the first place. Dudleys, APA, Hardyz were split up.

Hoping AA get the call up and are given every opportunity to succeed. Their matches are so energetic, could really get the crowds behind them quickly. Best thing is if they're just gone from NXT, The Authors of Pain can claim they can them off.
