So where do you get this whole "Vikings running game can't keep defenses honest" bs? You can't ignore Bennett. If you don't stop him at the line of scrimmage, he will burn you for 15 yards. And if you let him catch a screen pass, you're ****ed.

And if you stack the outside and try to get Bennett to rush to the inside, put Moe in a two-back set, or set Kleinsasser in motion and let him pound it out. It's real simple video game logic. The problem is, the Vikings coaching staff ****ed it all up.

Don't say it was Moss. Moss said what he said what, three years ago? When Cris Carter was here. Moss matured so much over the last two seasons, he lets his play speak for himself. Notice he doesn't say anything anymore, and when he talks he dropped his heavy southern drawl? I mean shit, he doesn't even get fined anymore. TO, Horn, Chad Johnson, Keyshawn. Everyone keeps using Moss' past against him when you all know he's risen above it while the other WRs have not.

Moss had Plantar Fasciatus(sp) at the end of the year as well, and that has ended people's careers before. Well, like one dude, and he was really fat, but you know what I mean... if you're not at 100% and you're double-teamed, you can't play like the best in the league.

But excuses aside, the Vikings had the talent to get the job done against the Bears, Chargers, Giants, Raiders, Cardinals. Seriously, dude. Tice blamed his players for every loss and that pisses me off. Don't blame your players. If they're old, or injured or whatever, then you have to react. It's not their fault. It's your fault for not adapting, as a coach.

Look at Belicheck. He didn't get mad at his players for getting injured. He replaced them and won. Stupid Mike Tice He better be less gay this year. Hard-nosed, gritty coaching can only get you so far.
Long story short, no, I'm not overly impressed with the Vikes running game. But, I could get proved wrong. I do think the running game is going to have to prove itself, I think teams will double the wide-outs and let the Vikes run the ball, hurt us short but not deep.

Let's not forget, the pats won a superbowl on a bend/don't break defense. (2001).

Umm, it wasn't a matter of not being able to give Clinton a raise. Clinton came to Mike Shanahan and flat out told him either make me the highest paid running back in football or I'll consider holding out. The Broncos told him they'd give him a raise if he'd add more years to his contract. He and his agent said no, and that was the end of it.

That explains that, but they were still 4.5 million over to start the offseason (according to the Sporting News). Have they cut a big contract that I didn't catch?

Ed McCaffrey retired, Ephraim Salaam was cut, and a bunch of guys restructured their contracts. Never pay attention to what a team's cap figure is at the beginning of the offseason. Most of the time a lot of money can be cut off of it pretty easily.

You gotta pay for retirees and cut players. In fact, the cap hit for Salaam will increase, as they pay all of it this year, since it was PRE-June 1st, if I recall correctly.

And VEL, good. with Bennett healthy, our running game will continue to get 7ypc, with Bennett getting between 5 and 6 ypc, as he did the year before he was injured, and he was doing when he returned from injury.

I could be off, but you don't pay retirees or cut players.

The only effect is...

Say Eddie had a 4yr contract with a 10mil signing bonues. The bonues is paid up front but the amount is split over 4 years so it's a cap hit of 2.5mil/yr.

Say after year #2 he retires (assuming the contract wasn't gaurenteed, which NFL contracts aren't) the Broncos would take a cap hit of 5mil on year #3, even though he doesn't play. But then in year #4, there is no cap figure.

Makes sense on the retired guy front, but here is where the information about a player who is cut comes from...

Quote:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=1743706

Salary cap hits: The 2004 pro-rated part of a signing bonus is always going to count in that year's cap. But, because every dollar counts in the salary cap, teams must add the remainder of a signing bonus if they cut or trade a player. They do this in two ways. If a player is cut before June 1, the cap hit is this year. Take that $4 million signing bonus example. If that player is cut before June 1, the $1 million portion counts this year but the remaining $3 million must also count this season. Thus, that $5 million contract must all count in 2004. But if the player is released after June 1, the team can delay taking the cap hit until next year, 2005. That's why $1 million will be on the books this year, but $3 million goes against the 2005 cap.
Therefore, Salaam will be off the books next year, but not this year.

I'm still looking into retirement... I just know that retired VIkings players continued to get paid and that sucked.

Boston is a Fish... does that mean they'll finally win?

He's a cancer, so my guess is no -- he'll only hurt an already weak team. But then, AJ Feeley played okay on the Eagles who had a similar team to the 'fins... except without Ricky Williams. So I guess it hinges on Boston's impact.

As for Philly, they're still trying to get TO? Imagine they give up a 1ster for him. That'd be pretty funny right there.

And then they get like one good year out of TO or so before he retires... imagine the irony of being burned by the first player over 30 you want to keep. Like Karma for letting so many players go.

But like, imagine the niners or the Ravens (whoever gets the pick for him) draft the next Bolden, and the Eagles fans will be whining about getting Owens, when they've been whining TO get Owens all along.

God, lots of whining going on in the NFL this year. None coming from the Vikings fans, at least.

Yeah, I think Troy is a good pickup for the Bills too. Although i liked Antoine Winfield, he lacked in size to guard the bigger receivers. He was/is a good tackler, but do to his size he never got a lot of big interceptions or big plays. Antoine was/is an excellant tackler and hard hitter, but i think with Vincent you get both of those, plus the big play factor. I think Vincent fits in well with the Bills. Now i hope they sign Volek for their QB of the future and draft one of the big time receivers, even if it means trading up. I'd love to see them get Mike Williams, Larry Fitzgerald or Roy Williams. IMO that's what they were missing last year, a good receiver opposite of Moulds. They were unable to spread the field after they let Peerless Price go. Anyways, GO BUFFALO!!!

Yeah, well that all points back to the lack of another WR thing. When teams double you best receiver (Moulds) and you have NOBODY to throw too, you end up spending way to much time looking for someone to throw too, and an offensive line can only hold off the rush for so long. Also, one of their better Offensive lineman, Mike Williams was hurt, so getting him back and perhaps drafting an impact receiver will change the fact he got sacked so much drastically. Spreading the field opens up your offense so much and IMO that was their biggest weakness last year. They have one of the best defenses in the league and with a pretty good offense they can be a big threat next year.

If you can't get rid of the ball quickly, you need to change your gameplan.

NFL coaches are so stupid these days... like Mike Tice got shredded an entire game with the screen pass. He never once adjusted. And also, against the Rams, Leonard Little lined up so far outside of the Tackle that there was no chance to stop him. Did he put a TE over there, or a FB in the backfield to stop him? No. He just allowed the sacks and complained that the Line didn't do its job.

And Minnesota just released their #2 receiver behind Moss last year, so MN knows how to pass to a WR without a second option. If the Pats and Eagles can make it that far with no valid receiving threat, the Bills had no excuse to miss the playoffs. No #2?

It's Al Davis who's stuck in his own little world. With the age on that team they should be thinking youth and rebuild. But no, at least they can look forward to top 5 picks for the next 3-4 years.

Ok so their defense is looking pretty good. They have run stoppers up the middle and a shutdown corner. They have similiar needs like the Cowboys , QB and RB. Oh and another WR. All their games next year will probably avarage around 25 points between both teams.

MONEY, jackass. Sapp has already won a World Title, now he wants to cash in his chips and get as much money as he can (which he did).

And nobody ever makes a big deal about players getting DUI's but do a funny dance in the end zone? OH MY GOD You are a horrible person

They made the superbowl but were destroyed because they didn't have Gruden.

This year, they still don't have Gruden, and they have lost most of their players.

"Money, jackass." So they gave him the most? Hahahahahahahaha doubt it. I bet the Redskins would have paid him 100 million for 5 years with a 50 million dollar signing bonus, plus a seat in Congress when he retires.

Also, hahaha good ups on TO. I've never hated on anyone who does that shit in a game. I got so pissed that OUR coach at the time, Denny Green, is pretty much responsible for banning all such behavior.

I think a lot of people are complaining about him trashing his teamates and whatnot, not his little dances.

Not sure though.

Come now, spiking the ball on the star is ****ING PIMP.

It's gotta be the #1 incident in (recent)NFL history. #2 is Chad Johnson's sign. Oh man, the sweet, sweet irony...
