Always get kinda geeked up for the first preseason game despite it not really meaning anything.

The Giants do have a wide open competition at linebacker, though. All 3 starting spots up for grabs with 9 LBs competing for the 3 starting spots and probably 6 or 7 roster spots.

The Giants seem to wind up having an undrafted rookie make the team every year. I've heard some good things about Etienne Sabino. Fantastic name.

I still wonder what could have been in 2008 had he not shot himself. Felt like the Giants could have gone for the SB repeat. Giants vs Steelers is a SB I'd love to see one of these years, though 2008 might have been the time for it.

SB Nation had a crazy stat days ago involving Sanchez somehow managed to be ranked dead last for QBs in NFL history in regards to being a starter for 4 years. Basically is the "Ryan Leaf/JaMarcus Russell" for QBs who've managed to last more than 2-3 years as a starter.

So my assesment was premature

After the initial drive where they gave up 80 yards and a td, it took the cheifs offense 3 quarters to gain another 80 yards

Defense had 12 hurry ups and 4 sacks

Young wr Parker had a monster game with the backups amd McCown proved he belongs

RB Khiry Robinson is someone to watch for, he prolly wont make the active squad so I seemhim getting signed off our practice team

Also wr andy tanner

Both of these guys will get lost in the depth at both rb and wr and will get signed to other teams

Feels weird only keeping 5 wideouts but I had to make a sacrifice somewhere since the Giants will most likely be carrying a 3rd QB for the first time in several years. They're not cutting Nassib after they traded to early in the 1st round to get him, but I have a hard time seeing them getting rid of Carr and putting the entire season on Nassib's shoulders if Eli gets hurt.

I wanted to find room for an extra LB (Etienne Sabino) and an extra CB (Junior Mertile) but I ran out of space since the Giants have a shitload of depth at the D-line and I think they'd like to keep as many as they possibly can. Well official cuts aren't due in until tomorrow but it looks like my final prediction isn't going to be totally off.

I'm thinking the Giants might keep 5 RBs now that Andre Brown is supposedly only going to miss a month. Brown is important enough where I think they'll try to avoid using the temporary IR spot and losing him for longer than they have to. Da'Rel Scott makes the team. To make up his spot, Adrien Robinson goes on the temporary IR and the Giants go with only 2 TEs.

Adrian Tracy misses out because there's just no way I can't put Shaun Rogers on the team, the big guy was great all preseason. 6 DTs seems like a bit much but Cullen Jenkins can shift to DE if need be.

Obv missed with the Aaron Curry pick. Kyle Bosworth gets his spot.

And with Stevie Brown's unfortunate injury, Tyler Sash seals up a spot. Could maybe see Cooper Taylor getting bumped but I dunno if David Caldwell has done enough to earn a spot.

Always a good feeling to win, preseason or not. Nice to see the Manning to Cruz connection has gone nowhere.

Only real negative I saw was the run defense still looking spotty. But it's game 1 of the preseason. Not really worth critiquing anything too much until after game 3.
