The Miz' Winners and Losers
WINNERS: Yankees - two rapes DRays - two excellent prsopects for Lugo Reds - 2 decent pickups, showing an effort to stay in the race Padres - huge 3B upgrade without giving up anything, kept Linebrink LOSERS: Red Sox - did nothing while the Yankees got better Pirates - got nothing for 3 good players Mets - got more crappy Latin pitchers Nats - didn't trade Soriano White Sox - needed a pitcher, didn't get one Cubs - worst infield in baseball history Angels - did nothing when they needed to do something Dodgers - what a mess ON THE FENCE: Rangers - Lee is nice but will probably hurt them down the road, only mild pitching upgrades A's - probably could've done something Royals - picked up a nice prospect but the 2 guys they gave up have potential Last edited by The Miz; 07-31-2006 at 05:54 PM. |

Nice to see the Red Sox where active this year but atleast they didn't do something stupid and trade Lester for someone retarded. So now atleast if they don't make any noise in the playoffs this year they'll still have the future.

Wow, have to be happy with the two deals the Yanks made. They didn't address the bullpen but I'm sure getting rid of Chacon helps a bit with that. Sucks that Chacon fell so far off this season after he came off the DL though.
Wilson should definitely be starting over Phillips, at least until Matsui comes back. Does Wilson have solid defense or what though at first base? Haven't heard too much about his defense except that he can play 1st, OF and C. The Yankees definitely have some roster moves to make, gonna be interesting to see who gets released or moved and whatnot. I dunno, can't wait until the Yanks next game on Tuesday to see how some of these pan out. |

BOS- Just because you're in first place doesn't mean you don't need to make a deal. The Red Sox have not been better than the Yankees this year, just were better and beating up NL teams. The Yankees got two huge pickups and the Red Sox did nothing. They still don't have an ace pitcher and their bullpen sans Timlin and Papelbon stinks.
PIT- "good" wasn't the word I meant to use. Value was. Wilson was high on many teams list and Casey and Wells could've gotten alot more back than what they did. Wilson is the major fuckup here though, only getting Chacon is ridiculous. Wilson didn't have a position? Well he's better than all of the Pirates outfielders sans Bay and better than their first baseman. Their fault for not realizing what they had. And Chacon blows. NYM- Hernandez is a total fluke. Perez I don't see bouncing back. Needed a quality pitcher, didn't get one. WAS- They got excellent offers for Soriano, that's the point. I know for a fact LAAA was offering some of their top prospects. CHC- Doesn't matter. Izturis is shite. And I meant middle infield, not infield. Izturis-Cedeno is unbelievably bad. KC - lol I didn't mean Stairs as somebody who had potential. Was talking Affeldt and Bautista. Affeldt hasn't been great but he and Bautista obviously have good stuff and could turn it around, that's why I'm on the fence here |

Also Kyle Snyder looked real good tonight in a long relief role, so we'll see where that goes. Everyone is busting a nut over all the dudes the Yankees got (understandable) but they already had the offense - today was a bit disappointing with no moves being made but I still got faith. On paper I'd give the nod to the Yanks, but that is why they play games

on the MVP thing, if Ortiz never wins it I won't be upset because I don't really see how an MVP can be a DH. If he does ever win the award tho, I'll obviously be happy about it.

Here's a fun game, try to find something Ortiz is better than Hafner at (besides playing for ESPNs fave team)
http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/...18&compare.y=8 Why can't a DH win MVP? Award is for most valuable player. You can be the most valuable player without playing defense |

Well I guess it could be possible but a DH would have to put up monster stats probably to beat out another position player, unless their was only one other positional player with horrible defense or something. I'm not really too set on it anyways, since I really don't give a fuck who wins the MVP. Its just a bunch of personal opinions with the majority winning, doesn't really mean much to me.
Hafner and Ortiz has pretty similar stats, Ortiz with more total bases/HRs while Hafners OBP is a higher and his AVG is a bit higher as well. ![]() |

lol yeah more HRs an TB cuz he has 30 more PAs. And still, Hafner's slugging is higher. Slugging % is a measure of TBs per AB. So yeah ok
SLG is a little higher and OBP is much higher. .40 points of OPS is a big difference. I guess Hafner just needs to work on his clutchiness or something |

Well yeah some of Ortiz's numbers are lower than usual but I am confident he'll finish up around .300, he has the last 2 seasons. Hopefully he'll be able to figure out the shift they put on him eventually, he has shown improvement since the start of the season againest it.
I think they are pretty comparable players personally, apparently Hafner is a lot better than Ortiz though. Hear more about Ortiz since he actually plays in and delievers in games that matter, if Hafner was playing in games that actaully mattered, I am sure he'd be getting a lot more pub. right now. Also you gotta stop taking things so seriously I say in here, I realize you are a huge baseball fan and love spitting out stats all day, but when I said "Nah chill son" I wasn't exactly serious in saying that Ortiz is better than Hafner, if Hafner played for the Red Sox and Ortiz didn't I'd probably be saying the same shit about Hafner. I like watching walk offs though ![]() |

lol quit with the VEL "put-words-in-my-mouth" tactic. Never said Hafner was a lot better than Ortiz. Obviously they're both top 5 hitters in the AL but it's clear who has been better this year.
I know you weren't completely serious, but I just wanted to spread some love for Hafner since I bet 99% of baseball fans would be shocked if you told them Hafner's stats are better than Ortiz'. And I don't blame them, it's a pretty well kept secret. And where was Hafner's publicity when Cleveland contended last year? |

lol don't compare me to VEL when you say something like "Here's a fun game, try to find something Ortiz is better than Hafner at (besides playing for ESPNs fave team)"
That makes it sound like Ortiz can't touch Hafner or something. I don't know, I'd say right now Hafner has an edge in a few catagory but for a majority they are equal. I started hearing about Hafner towards the end of last season, this year though I haven't heard shit. Probably East Coast bias againest Cleveland |

Has nothing to do with Ortiz not being able to touch Hafner. Just a simple fact that Ortiz has been better at nothing

lol yeah but when you say it like that, to me anyways, it seems like Hafner has dominated in every category, when that is not the case. So while what you are saying is true, it is just because they've been equal in a lot of catergories, with Hafner having a slight lead (.004 slugging) in a few catories then killing him on .OBP
But in fairness, Ortiz is going to get a lot more pitches to hit since they are not going to walk him to get to Manny so that could hurt his .OBP. I don't know who Hafner has behind him but I'd assume pitchers can be a lot more careful around him since they don't have to worry about who is behind him. Hafner could just possibly have a "better eye" but it is something to think about. |

If Ortiz is able to figure out that piece of shit shift they use againest him, I think it'd be reversed and we'd be asking the question about Hafner. Unfortunately thats baseball though

Damn. Apparently this deal was meant to go down:
Astros get: Tejada Orioles get: Heilman, Milledge Mets get: Oswalt ...and the O's are the ones who backed, claiming they want ML-ready players despite being far out of it. Thanks alot Baltimore ![]() Anyways, I like Hernandez and I believe the Mets woulda tried to get him anyway. Obviously there were bigger pitchers on the agenda but as soon as Sanchez was proclaimed likely out for the year they had to shift focus. I also doubt the Pirates were originally asking Nady for Robo until after learning of the injury. |

Minaya was on FAN today and said that he didn't mention the Sanchez injury publicly until after the deal was made, for fear that the Pirates would hold him up for Hernandez
All and all, I think its fair. I mean, Nady was ok, but not spectacular and now Milledge gets to play everyday. And if Perez can work his issues out, then we got a solid starter and a bullpen arm for Nady, far more than he was worth |

Washinton could have gotten (it's reported) Erwin Santana from the Angels for Soriano. They felt it wasn't enough. To me that means the NAtionals really want to resign Soriano. They must feel pretty confident that they can.
