Didn't COD4 break if you didn't have a map pack? Like not totally, but it would kick you out of lobbies if you didn't have the map picked?

Hopefully they've fixed the matchmaking so it doesn't put yu in lobbies with the map selected (not bloody likely)

Well I think it was *fixed* in W@W, where they had different playlists for you to join which included the map packs. Could be wrong, it's been awhile.

Activision are much, much worse than EA these days.

Aren't they're supposed to be developing a sort of Call Of Duty RTS type game or something? I'd think that would be the subscription based one. Putting the regular series on a monthly thing would alienate far more fans then would be worth it.

I could easily see them testing the waters on the next non IW CoD though, say $5 a month or something for a "premium" service or something, while still having free standard multilplayer.

I dont like the thought of paying to play COD along with having to pay to play COD.

Fucking retarded.

Now if they set up a cheat reporting system, gave all DLC free to subscribers and stuff like that, then I could foresee it being a decent idea, so all in all, its not.

With XBL being 9.99 a month base (cheaper when you buy more) a subscription of even $5 would make it $15 a month, which is almost enough to buy a decent greatest hits game or second hand game somewhere.

I dont mind paying for XBL, but having to pay on top of that to play a certain game is what really irks me and god forbid if every popular online game does that.

I wouldn't mind $5 a month. Anymore than that and it gets dicey though. But if there was a decent amount of DLC that came free with that, I might be more inclined.

If $5 a month covered ALL infinity ward games and DLC, I wouldnt mind so much.

But like i said before, still bullshit.

I mean take a look at games that have a subscription such as WoW, Eve Online, Etc.

You pay for Internet and the Subscription fee, which together for me would be $80 per month (of course I do other things with the net)

So the subscription for that is like a tax really.

Then you have the idea of paying,

$X a month to play a game, which you need to pay $10-$15 a month to access the ability to play online, which you have to pay $65 a month to actually be able to do any of this.

I know I am complaining alot but I really dont like paying for something more then once.

No, but I have.

I usually buy the 3 month card as its between the monthly and yearly (which is by far the best as its average is $5 a month, but I dont have $70 to blow at the moment, when I get my income tax, definitely)

Yeah noticed that the other day myself, went to buy something in the Arcade and it turned down the card for payment, one they have on file has been expired for about 4 months now with not a peep from them. Long may that last anyway.

i wouldnt even worry about it. 1) Its stupid to charge to play a game, unless its f'ing massive and constantly update (MMORPGS) 2) even if the old IW execs dont win in getting control of the Modern Warfare franchise, im almost certain theyll upon a studio, pull in all the IW team, and make a game similar to MW.

Wouldnt worry about budgets or publishers either, something tells me they wont have a problem finding a backer.

Doubt it will happen, or that it would be good if it did. Would be whored out to no end, ala Blizzard-style.

I understand people feeling like the DLC is overpriced. It is, a little. But in the end it's like $15. It's a couple of fast food meals. It's not gonna kill anyone's bank account, and it's not like there's DLC coming out every month costing this much. What annoys me much more is the vehemence and venom with which the community is railing against this. Can't go to any COD message boards right now because there's too much bitching. Granted, the online COD community seems to be made up largely of equal parts 12 year olds and retards so you expect stupidity, but the sense of entitlement is just staggering. That's what Icebox's arguments in this thread are reminding me of.

Been seeing this argument a lot. In the COD4 map pack, Chinatown was just a reskinned COD2 map, and I think I played Killhouse like once ever since it was in like no playlists. So $10 for 2 brand new maps, one rehash, and one that rarely gets played vs. $15 for 3 brand new maps and 2 of the best maps from COD4. Not too bad.
