This is way more negative then Heath Ledge's casting. It's not close.
This has gotten DC a lot of publicity. I don't know how many other names would have done that... Like to this extent. |

I think most peoples qualms come from what Sixx was saying. The guy has a very babyfaced look about him. Acting ability doesnt factor into it.

My point was that people judged those actors being cast in superhero movies based on previous work that was not superhero movies. My point is that Ben Affleck has made a terrible superhero movie, so it's a little more fair to judge this bit of casting than it was to judge Ledger and Keaton. |

It's definitely about his acting. He's been in a lot of bad movies, and he was bad in them. On the other side of the coin he's been in good movies which he also acted very well in... I don't know.
Gun to my head I would rather have him directing the movie then being Batman. |

^ Agreed. An Affleck-helmed Batman would be much better than Affleck as Batman.

DD being bad (although the director's cut was an improvement) had little to do with Ben's acting, so much as the writing, theatrical cut, and Fox's insistence on make it their version of 'cool' (the Bring Me To Life montage, though I like Evanescence, was cringe-worthy).
We don't even need to go back that far for an example on waiting to see results - Chris Evans also stared in bad superhero movies before he did good ones. We can go back right now in this forum and take a look at reactions to him getting the Cap part. |

So you have no problems with Ben Affleck as Batman then?

Nope. I am utterly neutral about it, leaning toward optimism at best.
My point is going the other route after being surprised and proven wrong in the past is starting to look silly. And I added my own quote about my softest of doubts with Chris Evans to be Fair and Balanced. Last edited by Kalyx triaD; 08-23-2013 at 10:37 PM. |

Additionally, A Knight's Tale was hardly brilliant, but Ledger didn't exactly do horrible in it, especially given the constraints of what it was. Daredevil was mocked even by the standards of what it was (no superhero movie is really going to be put up next to The Godfather, but come on) and even given its contemporaries. As a Power Rangers fan, I'm surprised you're using what is essentially a niche film as an example of a Ledger flick. It's ridonkulous, it's bombastic, it's over-the-top. Kind of like five guys in spandex running around to shitty power metal licks. DD didn't even have that, except maybe for a few moments of Colin Farrell being ridiculous. It was, by all evidence, intended to be a dramatic film with the gravity of something much closer to Batman Begins. And it was terrible at it. It probably would have been better if it had gone full on ridiculous, a la Batman Forever or whatever. I think people would get behind stupid and corny over stupid, corny, and Twilight. Unless that's your expectation of this movie. In which case....Well played, I guess..... |

Also, go ahead and bookmark this post. If, when I see the movie, I find Affleck to be decent in the role, revisit this and I will say I was wrong. I doubt I will. I had faith in Ledger (I think I even said so on here) and don't think I ever had an opinion on Evans. I don't think there's a radical change on either front. Also, the odds of me watching this in theaters are almost nil, so don't expect a confessional three hours after the midnight screening or something. Time will, of course, tell. However, all we're doing is talking based on what we've got so far. And based on current info, I will go on record as saying I think this is a bad idea. I enjoy Affleck, but he seems to have a pretty limited range of roles he's good at. This is part of why I didn't want to sound off on Evans--I'd seen him in exactly one role before. I grew up with Affleck. And honestly? If he's good, he's good, like I said before. |

The thing with Evans is that most people had only seen him as Jhonny Storm, so they had trouble picturing a cocky douchebag as Cap. But Evans at least looked the role.

Why wouldn't Affleck look the part? It won't be hard to make him look old and bitter as Bruce and when you throw the rubber suit on him, he'll look like Batman just like Iceman, Betelgeuse, Dr. Doug Ross and Trevor Reznik did. Now will the movie be good or not? No way to tell, but the look can be easy to overcome.

Supposedly the deal that got Affleck the role of Batman also includes a role for the upcoming Justice League film and any future films spawning from Batman vs Superman. Also could end up being the director or help direct the Justice League film.
Ben Affleck was the first choice candidate for the role but Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling were also contacted as possibilities. Gosling rejected the offer due to him not liking to act in sequels of movies. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...aid-yes-613658 |

No doubt they acted nothing like Batman (except Keaton, love that movie), but to me that's on the script and director of those more so than the actors playing it (except Clooney he was just terrible). But the costume had them all looking like Batman (until that silver thing they put Clooney in made him into one of those special suit action figures you see in the toy aisle).
I've never even heard of Newsies, and the Machinist may be the only Bale movie I've seen that didn't have Batman in it. Have to keep it fresh. |

Well after looking at his wiki list I guess I've also seen: 3:10 to Yuma, Shaft, Public Enemies, the Fighter and maybe the Prestige.

My grassroots campaign to get Jack Huston from Boardwalk Empire more famous is not going well.
admittedly it's just me being like "hey this superhero should be played by Jack Huston, from Boardwalk Empire" to people who do not watch Boardwalk Empire |

Well he is from the UK, so that should slot him in well with DC since Bale and Cavill both hail from there so start with that point and aim for Flash, Aquaman or Martian Manhunter.
I still want to see Mark Wahlberg as the Green Lantern though, good or not it'll be hilarious. |

I'm gonna root for him to be The Flash because I do not like Aquaman and Martian Manhunter has such a deep voice |

I watched The Illusionist on TV thinking that I was watching The Prestige and was disappointed. I later actually did watch The Prestige and was blown away by it being a great movie.

I'm assuming Batman would be in the Justice league movie. So then I assume Ben Affleck would also be starring in the Justice League movie.
As anyone ever starred and directed in a big time action movie before? I think that's a huge task to take on. |
