EA announces retail copies of the PC version will be limited only to the Origin service regardless of what the preferred digital PC service a customer normally uses.

At the moment, EA did not mention if they will extend the requirement to digital copies or require Origin to be enabled alongside with the digital provider the game was purchased from. If the recent feud with Steam is any indication, most likely EA will either force Origin to be running along with other providers or demand any in-game content is purchased only from the EA store.

EA released a 4-page document on just the multiplayer stuff for Battlefield 3 with the biggest thing being a list of all the guns in the game.

EA sent out a four page Battlefield 3 multiplayer fact sheet, which has a list of all the weapons, weapon accessories, solider equipment, solider specializations, vehicles and vehicle specializations. The fact sheet also says there will be 9 multiplayer maps. The only two revealed right now are Caspian Border and Operation Métro.

Console versions will be getting an in-game server browser designed to make searching for matches easier instead of just relying on ranked or matchmaker for servers on XBL and PSN.

EA confirmed that Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users will now also be able to take advantage of the server browser feature, allowing players more freedom to choose and change settings, modes, where they play, and what maps they play.

Looks like EA won the war of words against Activision and even the digital service feud with Valve during Gamerscom.

Activision is willing to make a truce and end the verbal war after public interest from both Gamerscom and pre-orders have Battlefield 3 with the huge advantage. They also were upset at how reps from EA literally said they hoped Call of Duty crashed and died off while saying Battlefield is the next series to dominate the FPS market.

Valve is willing to accept 100% blame from the EA-Valve feud and willing to allow EA have almost everything they demanded just so that Battlefield 3 ends up on Steam. As of now EA only wants Origin to be the main service for the game and already have other digital services accepting their demands.

Battlefield 3 also rumored to be on mulitple discs for the Xbox 360 version of the game although DICE was unwilling to state if it would be split with a disc for multiplayer and a disc for single/everything else.

DICE revealed a little more info this time concerning just the guns with the big news being sniper rifles no longer have 1-hit kills for non-head areas, a few more guns are available than was shown on the 4-page fact sheet at Gamescom, and weapon recoil is based on the gun picked by the player.

In terms of weapon customization:

Kertz also talked about weapon customization. Weapon optics were a point of interest for many fans. When asked about the recently announced enhanced night vision, Kertz stated, “the ENV is a weapon optic. It only turns on when you zoom in. There is no always on ENV. It cannot be disabled in zoom either.” In regards to side arms, Kertz said there will be “no pistol customization, but a wide variety will be available.” Kertz was also asked if all weapons could have suppressors attached to them. He answered, “not shotguns, pretty much everything else. Some are more effective than others.” He also mentioned the flashlight attachment. “Shadows play a big role, and flashlights make a big difference.”

Once again DICE explains the lack of 60fps on console versions for multiplayer was due to the team refusing to scale back or make changes from the PC version besides player numbers and potentially map sizes.

DICE also finally confirms there will be less destructible environments than in Bad Company 2 and previous games using this feature.

”When we see these things, [we think] okay, we have to add some covers that actually are not destructible.” In recent trailers and interviews, it’s been revealed that there won’t be as many completely destructible buildings like there were in Bad Company 2, however, destruction will still play a large role. Though you won’t be able to drop buildings on enemy’s heads in BF3, you will still be able to kill them with falling debris from destroyed walls or structures. Alan Kertz, senior gameplay designer at DICE, shed some more light on this subject when asked whether the player who caused the debris gets credit for the kill or not. He simply replied, “credit is given where credit is due.”

Based on stuff from the beta, as of now the game has a new voice chat system in place and heavy machine guns can not be mounted during multiplayer. As of now, tanks have the ability to heal themselves although it is possible this feature will be taken out once the beta is done.

I was never a fan of a sniper one hit kill unless it was a head shot. I always hoped one of the two heavy hitters (BF/CoD) would incorporate a realistic animation for getting shot in a limb though.

Just always thought it would be sweet to take a shot in the shoulder and have your character 'snap back', or it the ground temporarily from a leg shot. The again, i always wanted a quick 180 turn, and that doesnt seem to be possible in miltary shooters.

Some Battlefield 3 news mostly concerning the beta coming soon.

The open beta will be occurring very soon after the login page for the beta was posted but not activated for now as DICE finishes up preparing the beta tools.

The bad news is in order to play the beta, you must have last year's Medal of Honor disc inside the system because the beta is using that both as a checker to make sure a person belongs in the beta and because some of the stuff the beta is using comes from the Medal of Honor multiplayer part of the disc (ex. servers, etc).

Similar to Activision's Call of Duty series, there will be no demo of the game available after the beta ends and most likely none at all even well after the launch of the game.

New Battlefield 3 details with PS3 owners getting early DLC content, achievement list leaked for the Xbox 360 version, and DICE "lashes" out against complaints on the game.

Open Beta for PSN users will occur on September 29 and last till October 10 with PS3 users getting early access to the Back to Karkand DLC pack a week before Xbox 360 users.

The Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand expansion pack features four maps from Battlefield 2 that have been "boldly reimagined in the Frostbite 2 engine." You'll also see new weapons, vehicles, in-game dog tags, persistence and Trophies.

Finally, forum moderators on the Battlefield 3 forums "lashed" out at beta users complaining the maps and stuff promised for the beta were actually different with the biggest complaint being the map in the beta is not a 64-player map people had assumed and instead the smaller "Operation Metro" map (32 players max for beta).

In response, one of the mods for the forum decided to both mock people and remind them the beta is a privileged and not a right unless they paid for it.
