I've heard this all before. I'm from Boston. The Sox are boring, the Pats are boring. Please. They just wish it was them. How can anyone who claims to like baseball call these comebacks boring? No matter who's on the field. Best baseball game of the year EASY.
Just like their games against the Indians last year and the Yanks in 04. How are the two best series comebacks in SPORTS history, and the best in game comeback in postseason history "boring"? Celtics having the best comeback in NBA history was probably "boring" too. Elaborate please on why this is. They're probably frustrating because it sucks to see a city win exciting games and 6 championships in as many years, but it's not boring. Fuck off and take it up with your teams GM I'm not running my mouth, cuz we still need to win two games but it is and will continue to be ANYTHING BUT boring. lol, I understand your a Red Sox/Boston fan, but calling all these combacks the best in SPORTS history is just being.....well a blinded home town fan and I think a lot of Boston fans on here would agree with me. I'll give you '04 as a top candidate, but the others? Nah. Especially your "best game comeback" because I know a couple Mets fans on here might bring up a little game called Game 6 of 1986. possibly? It's not that I'm a blinded fan dude...it's a fact. This is the second biggest defecit comeback of all time in postseason history, the only difference is it was accomplished in 2 1/3 innings, rather than over the course of the whole game. Also, the comeback from 3-0 is the single greatest comeback in a playoff series in the history of all four major American sports. That's an indisputable fact. It's the only time it was done, except I think maybe once in hockey years and years ago. The 3-1 comeback had only been done a couple times I believe. The point is, they've also all been done by the same team over the past 4 years. So yea, I'm not blinded. I'm just citing the facts here. Dismissing them as opinion is blindness. Gimme a break here dude. I understand you hate the Sox and I love them but lets not shortchange anybody. Last edited by Jeritron; 10-17-2008 at 11:07 AM. |

A/ cause theya re beat up to negin with. b/ Josh beckett isn't great this year c) Tey are gonna waste a lot of emerygy coming back from 3-1 Rockies fans probably thought the ;atter too so I'm still unsrue. Still gun to my head i want the red zod to win. I like the phils chances when Ruan Howayd has a short porch in right field. |

Oh yea the Red Sox fans are so annoying. So much more so than those lifelong Rays fans nationwide and their mohawks. Please.
You do realize that until this year a Sox game played in Tampa Bay was a home game as far as fans went right? |

The comeback last night wasn't boring by any stretch, I'm just saying that if the Red Sox pull a Cena and overcome the odds again in the ALCS to get to the WS, a Phillies/Red Sox World Series would be immensely boring for me personally.
As I've said, I'm not sure what it is...but I've just never been a fan of repeat championships and dynasties (unless it were my own team, obviously). However, just like the Super Bowl a few years back, when push came to shove I'd probably pull for the Red Sox over the Phillies much like I rooted for the Patriots over the Eagles just because seeing a top rival team winning it would be worse. I guess I'm just big on unpredictability, hence why I loved rooting for the Rockies last year and the Rays this year...cause come on, who the fuck predicted them to be WS contenders at season's end? Unfortunately though, when I made my playoff predictions at the beginning of this thread, I picked the Cubs/Angels to be in the WS with the Rays finally realizing it was the playoffs and folding in the ALCS. I clearly blew it on the WS, but I just hope the Rays part isn't wrong too ![]() |

Grant Balfour and his exploits appear to have caused a minor stir over here. Must be a slow news month between the end of the football season and the start of the cricket season.
Probably not as much of a stir after today though. Don't think even Boston can do it this time. Can't back them with Beckett v Shields. c'mon. |

Also, wtf are you talking about on game 6 of the 1986 world series. That was a great finish for the Mets, and a heartbreaking one for the Sox. A true classic moment. I'm not going to shortchange it because it didn't go the Sox way, it was a great walkoff win by the Mets. But the greatest comeback? Are you familiar with the game and the scoring?

whatever. you're fucking igorant. no problem though. keep on rambling.
and I never said Game 6 was the greatest comeback of all-time. if I did, I would be negating my whole argument. I listed that because there are Met fans on this board that would argue that one. In my opinion, it is all opinion Last edited by Loose Cannon; 10-17-2008 at 11:44 AM. |

How am I ignorant? Please tell. Because as far as I know these are facts.
Look I get that I'm a Sox fan and opinion enters into certain things. But I'm only citing 3 things. And unless I'm missing the records and facts of MLB then I'm not being ignorant at all. I don't know why it makes you so angry. I was simply explaining why it isn't "boring" |

Maybe "greatest" comebacks is a more opinionated term, since perhaps a Mets fan considers a 2 run comeback superior to a 7 due to circumstances and what not. But "from the largest defecits" would be factually correct.

yes, if you said "from the largest defecits" I will agree with you. If you went through all the years since the 1800's and found that, then yea, that's a fact. NO Argument.
To me, "greatest comebacks" is more of an opinion. I'm not angry. it's pointless to get angry on a messageboard ![]() |

I understand that you think theres a lot of opinion into these things. And there is. But I'm not out here yelling the Sox are the greatest team ever, or has the greatest fans, or park, or legacy.
That would be ignorant and biased. I'm pointing out, for reasons raised, that the comebacks of 04, 07, and last nights single game are among the largest comebacks of all time in sports history. Whether they're preferred or not that's really undisputable. It's just a matter of documentation. Sorry if you thought this was ignorant. BUT, theres not really any opinion that enters into the question of "Is the 2004 ALCS Red Sox win the biggest comeback of all time" It's a yes or no question, and to answer no is pretty much wrong. |

And my main point was that no matter what team is accomplishing such feats, it's hard for me as a baseball fan to view it as boring. Even if it's the same team doing it another time.

great comebacks also have to be broken down by a series or a game.
series 2004 ALCS is up there for me. single game... Celtics game 4 2008 that Bills WC game stands out w/ Frank Reich. same with the Colts AFC win over the Pats. |

I said 3-0 had only happened one other time, a long time ago. It happened twice. My bad.
3-1 is a bit more common if you go over all sports, but why don't you look into it in baseball solely. I used all of sports to describe the 3-0 comeback, but not for the 3-1. I said "a couple times" in regard to 3-1 in baseball ONLY. Don't change what I said Last edited by Jeritron; 10-18-2008 at 11:34 AM. |

It's only happened three times, and only that one time in baseball is mainly what I'm getting at here. Baseballs also a different sport and comebacks are far more rare

I guess Hero you should factor in 16 teams make the hockey playoffs, where in baseball it's 8, hence making a 3-1 comeback in baseball more "rare".
Also, Hero... you and senrab may be the only ones on the board who were around to see the 1942 stanley cup finals ![]() |

Big Game James, who's lost the only two big games he's ever pitched. What a fuckin joke. Self proclaimed I'd have to guess
I can't begin to tell you people how much I hate Tampa Bay. Unlike any other team. I have a hard time even respecting them and their claims of shit like that. At least I respect the Yankees and their fanbase, even if I "hate" them. Lol at those people who've been fans for 3 weeks crying after the game. Good to see they have hope too. Although I can't really blame them, how can they have faith in any type of big win when they've never seen one. Sorry to be a prick here, I just resent that shitty dome full of overnight lifelong fans. I love Beckett. He only gave up four hits, too bad two were solo shots but nonetheless a great outing that got the job done, especially for a guy who's injured. Last edited by Jeritron; 10-19-2008 at 03:26 AM. |

I don't think Lester will have another off start. A lot of pressure on Tampa also, while Boston's got serious momentum.
