You can't give away players. I think the Rios thing had a lot to do with it. That, plus his handling of Halladay this trade deadline.

Yeah but the contracts, even inflated were gambles that didn't pan out. Not good, but they are nothing like making the franchise look terrible to the team's fans and to baseball in general. Rios and Halladay's handling did that.

lol considering how well Rios has done in Chicago it's probably one of the few good moves he made.

Dodgers are not a team built for the playoffs at all. Regardless of what happens doesn't make much difference, IMO.

LOts of players are saying really good things about J.P. Richardi. Pretty much a mutiny in the clubhouse over Cito Gaston though. What ashit way to end the year, coupled with 2 losses (so far) to Baltimore. Not going to be ahappy ending to the year. It was looking good with 9 wins out of 10 and a major league leading amount of HRs and stuff of that nature.

Bobby Valentine is reportedly in talks with the Marlins about "a position". Loria is pissed that the Marlins didn't make the postseason despite 87 wins.

Ugh it would be one final kick in the crotch if Bobby V signs with the Marlins. Jerry Manuel is a likable guy but if the Mets don't have the money to spend to fill all of their holes next year, I'd much sooner trust Bobby to get more out of young guys or middle of the road players.

St.Louis is really playing like shit going into the playoffs though. So ya never know, you never know in the Playoffs.

Nice, Nelson Figueroa tosses a complete game shutout after having awful luck all September despite pitching well. Mets bounce back from their sweep by the Nationals and sweep the Astros to end at 70-92.

When Wright and Santana went down in late August, I didn't think they'd even be able to make it to 70 wins. So it's a good note to end on. Bring on 2010.

I'll probably do a "Season Wrap-Up" post at some point.

Twins are 6 outs away from forcing a tiebreaker, which will be played on Tuesday due to the NFL getting the building on Monday.

The Yanks are expected to choose Schedule A and start on Wednesday. If you believe in momentum going into the playoffs, that could actually be an advantage for the Central winner, not even having to wait a full day for the next game.

Yeah, I think it has its advantages and disadvantages. The Yankees have to sit around for a couple days while the Central winner goes right into the series. Although the fact that both teams will go all out on that game is helpful to the Yankees who can actually set up their rotation and all that.

I was really pulling for the Twins to take the division so the Yanks can avoid Verlander but it really doesn't matter to me anymore. If anything, the Twins might be harder since they're on such a hot streak while the Tigers are stumbling.

Also, pretty crazy game for A-Rod today. 2 Hrs and 7 RBIs in one inning to get to 30 HRs-100 RBIs for something like the 12th straight year.
