You know what else was never done before?

A national wrestling promotion with nationally syndicated television shows called the WWF.

A flagship, internationally televised pay-per-view wrestling event called WrestleMania.

I guess you could consider those somewhat successful things that had never been done before.

It's called innovation and risk man. If you truly have that big of an issue with WWE, don't watch it anymore.

Typical 2011 wrestling fan.

If they have a match at a PPV with little or no build-up, they bitch and moan.

If WWE tries to do something that's never been done before, and build up a match for a whole year, they bitch and moan.

Anybody who has been watching for a while I've got a questions: When did they start the build on house shows and television for the build for Hogan/Bundy for WM2? It seemed looking back that they definitely were planning on somebody when Bundy squashed SD Jones. Anybody know when they started the feud?

It's been tried before Mr. Kennedy planned to cash in his Money in the Bank at WM24. Then he got hurt or suspended and he quickly dropped the briefcase to Edge. The crowd seemed pissed but probably due to the fact that they wanted to see Cena/Rock last night.

Even then, there was no match set. It was just Kennedy vs. whoever the champion might be. And he could have been using it as a decoy and ended up cashing it in early in a surprise move. I was excited about the possibility though.

This though is just incredible. They're really trying for an all-time high anticipation. Even Hogan/Rock only had a couple months. This is the best thing WWE has done in longer than I can remember.

Also tones down less on Rock burying Cena and comes off as more of a rub. The question is now, what happens with The Miz.

I wonder if the winner is already determined. Hmm

I wanna say Cena is the obvious winner. Rock winning what will arguably be the most anticipated match in pro wrestling history and then probably leaving for Hollywood again seems like such a bad idea when it can be Cena's signature match.

... But it's in Miami. Rock's hometown. And unless WWE works wonders with Cena's character in the next year, that place is gonna RIOT if Cena wins. lol

I understand but we are only on the 2nd day after Mania and already main event match's are being planned. look back at previous mania's. I understand that they can no longer do what they did years ago due to most of the big guy's almost retired and doing other projects.

So it's bound to be hard. What I don't understand is, why wait until next year?. Why couldn't they have done it this year. and then next year throw Taker against Cena. or something. As for Raw. it was an OK night.

Well, if they have one whole year until the match happens, they better be planning and rehearsing it to perfection, or else it will be a major disappointment.

They have no excuse for the match to be lackluster with this much time to prepare.

My ultimate guess is Cena goes into the Road to WM as the champion and whoever wins the Royal Rumble will want to insert themselves into the Rock/Cena match.

I honestly think its a brilliant plan, but they need to have the Rock wrestle at least a few times in between. It cant be "Cena wrestles a full schedule for 12 months while the Rock is off making movies and isn't seen again til next March"

Also maybe overlooked is the fact that Taker wont face Cena which means they might have just booked Taker/HHH 3 last night as well if he does wrestle again. But my guess is that they have to be leaning towards him not coming back if they decided not to go with the match vs Cena.

Anticipation is a very good thing. This year, it would have all happened so fast and that's it. It would be done now. It would have been a cool little match because it's Rock and Cena. But the level of excitement by the time next year rolls around is gonna be off the charts.

Also, look at the other ramifications. It's April 2011 and Cena's already a lock to not win the 2012 Royal Rumble.

I don't think so. That would imply that Rock-Cena was a backup plan if Taker wasn't coming back. Rock-Cena trumps any other ideas they may have had for anyone else including Taker.

Summary by someone late to the party:

-Rey Rey, all tatted up and in all white, looked like Hakushi.
-Loving the "disfigured" Rhodes gimmick more and more. I just think, since he should slide in more gaming geekiness like he did with the Triforce boots, and just start wearing the Vega mask.
-Digging Sheamus' US champ Apollo Creed getup... but... WTF is with all the red white & blue? Srsly, between him, and Cena and The Rock, I thought it was July, or they were wrestling performing at a military base.
-Wow. A one year build for a WrestleMania match? There is no possible way this could go wro-

...fuck.

I don't believe that Kennedy would have cashed it at Mania anyway. I think it was a ruse so he could get the surprise win.

I mean, if they were gonna wait a year, why take the briefcase off him when he got injured? He'd have been back in time for the Mania build even with the misdiagnosis.

Wasn't so much a swipe at Kennedy, just the fact that anything can happen between now and NEXT YEAR'S 'Mania... something unforseen or even catastrophic that could sabotage the already announced feature match. Hell, it even has the possiblity of becoming overhyped and stale by the time next April rolls around. This isn't the 80's, where this Nex.. excuse me, Corre vs. "forced alliance of Rock and Cena where they earn eachother's respect" doesn't have the life cycle it could have had two decades ago. Even less now because Cena just kicked these guys' ass +3 more a few months ago in different shirts.

Yes, I know that the "unforseen" can happen anyway, but it seems a bit more calculated to sit on this until the next Road to WrestleMania than announce it now and have something go haywire like in September that leaves them S.O.L and without their promised blockbuster ticket/buyrate-mover.

And to answer your question, XL, I think they took the briefcase off of him because the injury was "his fault". Of course, they put they put the belt on a crackhead more than once, and another company let that same guy design their world title, so take that speculation for what it's worth.

I was wondering where are they going to have Rock vs Cena. They wouldn't exactly do it on your normal throw away PPV like Extreme Rules or Over the Limit. It had to be Summerslam or Wrestlemania, and if you're going to wait 4-5 months until August for it then you may as well wait until Mania where the match of that magnitude truly belongs. Can't fucking wait for Miami

As for Cena/Rock, I hope they stop letting Cena wrestle on TV. Let him keep up on house shows to keep in ring shape and let him be a character on TV, but I'd love it if, say, Extreme Rules was his last match until Mania. It'd add a lot more to their match, and it would keep the focus on their feud for the most part.

Man I Really looked forward Taker vs Cena at WM 28 but now... Please don't tell me that HHH gets a rematch at Mania.

Absolutely tremendous decision to book the match now. They WILL have to be careful with Cena though, as he's had a history of injury. I'd be really shocked if they throw him in any position to absorb a high impact spot.

Last night's Raw was...decent. It was kind of a Wrestlemania rehash, kind of tying up loose ends. I'm excited to see where they go next week, and how they start advancing these feuds with 'Mania in their rear view mirror.

Just think..with the MITB happening this Summer, it would be easier for someone to cash in the case at WM.

I could totally see Taker in a title match vs whoever the champion is, winning the belt and being completely out of it like he was at the end of the match with HHH and then whoever cashes in and beats him to end the end the streak and win the belt. That would blow the non existent roof off the place.

I don't know why everyone is acting like Taker vs Cena at WM28 was going to happen. We had absolutely no indication of it occuring other than pure speculation.

Why you would want to see it anyway when you can get Rock vs Cena? We've seen Taker vs Cena already before, granted it was in their old rapper and American bad ass gimmicks, but we've never seen Rock vs Cena before. Plus I'd rather have the promo's and buildup between Rock/Cena than Taker/Cena.

I have no doubt it would be a solid match between Taker/Cena, but I don't know why everyone's acting like it was guaranteed to happen and they're so disappointed.

No, he didn't. I was there live in the audience, they pulled a trampoline from under the ring, and when he made his entrance into the ring, thats what he jumped on.

Just because The Rock and John Cena won't wrestle each other until WrestleManis 28, doesn't necessarily mean The Rock won't wrestle until then...

...as part of the build-up, they may have the two of them team up with each other in a couple tag team matches, and use the old "take two foes, have them team up even if they hate each other, have them win a couple matches, then start having trouble, and eventually, one attacks the other" thingy (hence the involvement of The Corre...maybe they will wrestle The Corre or something).

best i can remember it was on a SNME muraco held hogan into the corner for bundy to "injure" hogan while the brain cheered him on, not sure if muraco was wrestling him on the card or if it was a post match attack. it was prolly a month before mania.

just one asshole's opinion: it seems ambitious to book rock v cena this far ahead. id assume rock knows if he will be filming anything movie wise this far in adavnce or maybe has committed to taking a year off from hollywood.

the pros: big match, huge payday for vince

the cons: cena has to win

the what if's: you have a weekly show and a monthly PPV to keep the fans attention and im not sure this match has that potential for me. and do you just have them avoid each other for a year? trade cena to smackdown?

If someone 5'6/7 could jump that high he wouldn't be in WWE. I'm guessing the top rope is about 9ish feet from the floor. The world record for high jump is something like 8.5 feet.

It's still a cool entrance, but when you see the trampoline it does kind of ruin it. I wonder if he could do it off the ring steps if they were placed in down the entrance way, a couple of feet from the ring.
