Killer Instinct murders Injustice in the only space that matters. That is End Of as far as I'm concerned. DOA5U being an update shouldn't be wavered, as it's a lot of fun and very much improved over vanilla DOA5. BlazBlue CP(lol), while a limited release and awareness, is more than likely better built than Injustice as well. The last BB is better than Injustice. Mortal Kombat is better than Injustice.

I wouldn't even consider Divekick in a discussion like this.

My issues with Injustice is its patched together gameplay system, trying to please NetherRealm's core fans and the Capcom crowd at once. Where MK at least maintained its gameplay identity (for better or worse), Injustice comes off as fighting game Frankenstein. I elaborated on this at length in a past blog.

I gave Injustice much props for its training mode options, offering a great resource for learning the game. Still, the gameplay is conceptually desperate. Singleplayer modes are nice but people putting so much emphasis on such a thing enables developers to start fucking with priorities. This is how garbage like DmC and Lost Planet 3 happens.

As someone who doesn't give a shit about 'competitive' fighting games, I would easily say that Injustice is fighting game of the year. It was a blast, and really easily accessible. There are probably a lot more casual players than obsessed fighting game fans. So there, that's how it could happen.

It was fun as hell, it was easy to get into, hard to master, and easy for people to play with friends and be competitive with their own few characters once they understood it.

So your elitism means nothing to me. It was a great game. Most people don't give a shit about half of what you mentioned.

let's be honest though, the VGA's...VGX's? Whatever. They're not the be all end all of gaming award. Nobody is, really, which is why you get 30 'game of the year' editions for 30 different games.

Yeah, no one game site has the prestige to do this. It would make more since for SRK or Eventhubs to do a big poll for FG GotY, they have way more experience in the matter.

However you feel about it that's exactly my point. There's somebody like me and then some dudes who got assigned some awards thing on a gaming site. I make no apologies suggesting that you take my commentary on fighting games a tad more seriously than some clown who probably doesn't know the difference between a Roman Cancel and a Special Cancel.

Not being Elitist, either - I just as stronly wouldn't want just any clown rating FPS or RPG's if all he can comment on is the native resolution. Me talking about the meat and potatoes of a game isn't 'thinking a certain way'. It's what ultimately matters most, whether you wanna believe that or not.

Like I said, I can see the argument for Injustice being FGotY, but a website saying it is, doesn't make it true.

Like any subjective medium, it all comes down to the person. Even with it's sparse content, a game like Killer Instinct is going to be way more enjoyable for people like Kalyx who enjoy delving deep into intricate systems in fighting games, where as someone who doesn't take those kinds of things as seriously, is probably going to have more fun with Injustice.

This is just like that argument about Ultras in Street Fighter you guys had. Their existence doesn't make the game better or worse. Just different. Either you like the added strategy it creates, or you prefer to play a more traditional style.

It's all apples and oranges. But at least you haven't started calling each other names this time.

I also just want to say that I suck at fighting games and feel that KI is funner/better/more deserving of FGOTY than Injustice, and by no means am I on an elite level (I can rarely complete a fucking tutorial trial).

Personally felt Injustice was too gimmicky with the environmental game play.
