I'd take Crosby. He has the scoring abilities but he's also an awesome play maker.

O'Connel is bitching in the press, said they either have to find better players or the current players have to play better.

this is really funny.

Anyway, hockey sucks now...

I liked Cam Neely's line "It went from soccer on skated to figure skating with sticks, I couldn't play today, I'd be in the box all game".

yeah because College hockey would survive without a professional league for players to get drafted to.

It's been a pretty damn good year of hockey thus far. There's still plenty of physical play, but the players, the stars are also being given to truly shine with the reduction of the clutch and grab.

btw pretty much all the teams that were good before and had high payrolls are still the best teams.

Sens win again, beat the heh Boston Bruins.

4-2 but could have easily been 6-2 or higher had Raycroft not made some nice saves, 40 to 24 in Ottawa's favour they dominated the game even with Redden and Neil out of the lineup.

This team is amazing, easily one of the best two way teams the NHL has seen in a long time.

the top line of Heatley/Spezza/Alfredsson each had a goal and 2 assists (all assits came on each others goals), Mezzaros netted his first nhl career goal. Great game to see live, two of the 4 goals were scored within the first minute of play of the 1rst and 2nd period (the 2nd period goal being at 9 seconds or so)

They were also robbed of a goal and then screwed at the end of regulation by the refs against the Leafs.

desperate times call for desperate measures. The Prince George Cougars (of the WHL) just panicked and traded their #1 overall player too. Like the Bruins, the team is in a funk and they are making a move in order to shake things up. It might be a short term solution that works, but long term, it's the wrong idea.

Oh horseshit, Sturm is a pretty damn fine foward not Thorton level obviously but still pretty damn good, Stuart is a fine young defensemen, Primeau is well Primeau the weak link in the trade, if the B's were gonna trade Thorton this is a pretty decent (not great) return. Look at what other guys have gone for in the Past, Jagr for fuck nothing, Kovy for even less than fuck nothing twice!, Jagr again this time with half of his salary as well for the grand sum of Anson Carter who was then traded for nothing as well, Roenick for nothing granted that was to make cap room but still, and Fedorov for lol Tyler Wright. Let's not forget some classic oldies like Naslund for Alek Stojanov (granted that's mostly just bad in retrospect), Demitra for Christer Olsson, The Thorton trade, not that I quite understand it, is hardly the worst trade ever.

Sturm, Stuart and Primeau add up to way more than a water bottle and 2 hockeysticks.

That and Iginla is better than Thorton anyway.

meh, it's not that bad of a trade. Sturm and Stuart are very good players and Primeau is a solid faceoff guy and penalty killer

Stuart has concussion problems.
Primeau is a 4th liner
Sturm is quality, but no 'Thorton' quality.

Sharks stole, they didn't even have to give up Marleau, which is the only way this trade would have made any sense.

I'm happy for Montreal though. Makes it easier for them to have a good season.

It's funny, the guy who does a lot of Bruins games also is a co-host on a 10-2 radio show and he started the show today by saying.

"The same people who are going to call me for the next 4hrs and tell me how the Bruins just dumped salary and made a horrible trade, are the same people who have been calling me for the last 3yrs telling me how Thorton has no heart, no guts, is over paid, over rated, etc... etc... "

Also, everyone had the same reaction when Nomar was delt and the "only got" Cabreara and Doug M.

Last couple of cup winners didn't have a lot of "stars".

yeah, talent for talent, the bruins gave up, probably one of the top 5 players in the league, but with all the holes the Bruins have, plus it frees up some money.

Dunno, not thrilled by it, but willing to see how it turns out.

I'm wondering what they're going to do with Samsanov, the original deal was Samsanov for Stuart.

Now, they might re-sign Samsanov, but there's talk of him being moved for a Center.

interesting note, word is Thorton found out by getting a call from his parents.

He went to the Garden and while the Celtics were playing, cleaned out his locker and then went across the street and was scene sitting in his truck, some say closer to tears and some say crying.

Also, note that last week he took a public shot at the coach, might have had something to do with it.

Thorton was their captain and leader and an amazing player and sacrificed a shit load for that team (anyone remember the series he played with a broken rib I think it was? And Boston still gave him shit for "poor play"). To give him that treatment is just pathetic.
As for the Broken Rib series, he got crap during the series, no one knew he had the injury, rightfully so, the Bruins didn't want the oppnents to know, after he got credit from the fans.

I agree, if he found out from his parents thats a crap move.

Sinden praised him and then said he "never lived up to expectations, but maybe that's my fault by expecting too much of him".

O'Connel was asked if he was a top 5 player in the league "No" top 10? "Well, ya know, I really don't want to get into that".

The Bruins are getting hammered, that O'Connell pulled the trigger to try and save his job, and didn't shop around. Everyone seems ok that they delt Thornton, but the issue is they probably could have gotten more and apperently didn't try, since this was a trade that was originally for Samsanov and then grew, rather then shopping him around.

Short term anyways. The only player I can see helping Boston out in the future is Stuart because he's still pretty young and has all star potential.
