Wow, awesome games last night. Thoroughly enjoyed the Buccs/Skins game, went right to the wire. And those Pats, I'm starting to re consider my Colts pick to make the Superbowl. I love football.

Somebody please explain why you can only challenge some plays and not those ruled down by contact. What's the point of having challenges if you can't use it on like 50% of plays.

I didn't see the play, but typically it's because once a player is thought to be down the a ref blows their whistle. Once the whistle blows the play is DEAD no matter what.

If nothing at all happens and a ref has a brain fart and blows a whistle the play is dead right then.

So, when the player is ruled down, the whistle blows the defense doesn't touch them, because if they do it's a penalty, the type that typically comes with ejections, fines and suspensions.

So, that's the reason typically, but I didn't see the play myself.

It actually happened twice, Shockey got stripped of the ball, they ruled him down by contact. Later on Goings fumbled, they ruled him down by contact. What I don't understand is you can challenge a ref's decision on say whether or not a player catches the ball, but you can't challenge whether something happened before the player was down. Where's the sense in that?

What the referees are supposed to do, and either Aikman or Joe Buck made note of this, is let the play continue because once the player is whistled down by contact the play is over, no challenges allowed.

The refs in this game were terrible, there was no consistency at all. I'm not saying this in excuse for the loss, because we just played like shit, but the refs blew calls and that shit burns my britches more than anything.

I dunno maybe it's just me. I did hear that though, think it was Aikman - I can understand if the refs blew the calls. And you're right they did seem to miss a few things. Pretty funny when the crowd was getting all pissy over Goings' one not being called when Shockey got away with one like 5 minutes earlier

Being a Giants fan, I wouldn't have complained to have gotten a call swung our way on Goings' fumble. The thing that pisses me off is the inaccuracy and inconsistency of the referees. Two wrong calls don't make a right one, which makes me wonder if they saw the Goings fumble and blew it dead or didn't rule a fumble because they fucked up the Shockey call. The referees didn't change the outcome of this game though, thats when it really is disheartening.

Yeah second offensive play for the Steelers on a false start and the DE and LT almost started brawling LOL. They showed before the game how Porter and Chad Johnson almost got into too.
