Are you foreal? Reggie Wayne has torched every single person the Pats have put on him. Asante Samuel has gotten really good, but he'll have his hands full with Marvin. I'm kinda shocked you dont find matchup important. Thats dumb. They mean alot. Especially given Waynes history for torching the Pats #2 cb and with Dallas Clark red hot and damn near uncoverable by even the best linebackers in the league ( ravens ). Honestly, DrA, you're wrong. It means alot.

It's not that I think that matchups aren't important, it's just that I don't think that who New England puts on Reggie Wayne or Dallas Clark is really going to be the deciding matter as to who wins the game. I've heard that spreading out the defense makes the running game better statement many times, but I don't necessarily believe it. Even if it is true, the Patriots are probably the hardest team to spread out anyway. I also don't see how Hobbes is any worse than Drayton Florence or Patrick Surtain in terms of how he will cover Reggie Wayne.
The key to this game, as it is with most games, isn't who covers Reggie Wayne, it's how the Patriots are going to put pressure on Manning and that Colts' offensive line. Manning has one of the quickest releases in the game, and he also has the ability to audible and get the ball to a receiver before the defense knew what hit them. The fact of the matter is that it doesn't really matter who the Patriots put on anyone, as Manning will find the open guy if he has enough time no matter what. However, if they find ways to blitz Manning accordingly, they can make him make mistakes and crack under pressure, no matter who they have in coverage or zone. |

I think it matters alot. I'm pretty sure Hobbs was the guy that got lit by Harrison in the first meeting this year. It wouldnt be no different with Wayne. Pats dont have the secondary to be able to blitz Manning that much imo. They're better off just doing what Baltimore did and drop there safteys back 25 yards. Cause if they blitz, they're leaving someone man to man and Manning is brilliant at finding where the blitz is coming from and where the man to man is. Marvin, Reggie and Dallas ( depending on whos covering him ) can all beat man to man coverage and the Pats will get shredded that way. Thats why the individual matchups matter. Ellis Hobbs cant cover Reggie Wayne 1 on 1. I'm sorry. Samuel might be able to do something with Marvin. I think he's a great cb, but Hobbs is in trouble.
I think Manning is gunna have a huge game, but i think Brady will have a big one too. Colts defense is playing amazing, but you have to take it with a grain of salt kind of. Its hard to believe they can sustain what they're doing. Especially against New England, but that dome is going to be on fire. Its going to be like nothing you've heard before. Crowd could will these Colts defenders to another brilliant effort. I dunno. |

Or maybe you are right and the Colts wideouts will run wild, I mean Harrison did lay out Champ Bailey...probably one of the hardest guys in the NFL to block so who knows? From the way you are talking the Patriots shouldn't even take the field this Sunday and we should all ride Peyton Manning's dick to the Superbowl |

We should. Probably a great ride. LOL@ our recievers being soft. That argument was made back in 2003 and they're still putting up all pro numbers. Obviously if they are soft, no one is doing anything about it. Comon man. Stop with that bullshit. If they were soft and the answer was to get physical with them, it would have been done by now. That shit obviously doesnt work cause they're better then that. So lets stop with the soft shit. No team left in this playoffs is soft. Colts didnt work 7 minutes off the clock against arguably the toughest team in the league, in the 4th quarter, by running 12out of 13 times, being soft. Just stop. That argument is old and wrong. |

Hey RP buddy! I had to come back and visit you for this one.
Well, two of my 4 picks are still in. Pats & Saints, which were my super bowl picks (I had Ravens and Cowboys in the conference championships). As for LT, I’ll just give him a pass for being over emotional. I don’t see how imitating a dance that a player does is disrespectful. It’s not something new, TO did it to Ray Lewis, the Pats in the super bowl did the “eagles” pose. What I do find funny is Merriman only did the dance once and that was on a hurry not a sack. He had a sub-par game for himself, the “Lights Out” was Matt Light blocking him. I did get a real kick out of Rivers yelling at the pats to “act like you’ve won before”, sure, cause if you had won that game you would have shaken hands and just walked off the field calmly with no celebration and Merriman and the rest would have followed suit. Also a side note, after the Charges destroyed the Pats last year, a bunch of players celebrated like that, and players were in the hallway in-between the locker rooms yelling things like “F-the Patriots, the Patriots are dead” etc… This is why Colvin did what he did after the game. As for Marty, great game calling, if you kept the ball in the hands of LT and Turner the Chargers probably would have run. The Pats have the #2 run defense, but the Charges could run at will. The 4th and 11 was one of the stupidest calls I’ve ever seen. If you really don’t have faith in your pro-bowl kicker then take a delay of game and then punt. Ok, now we move on to Indy. I’ll be honest, this Colts team concerns me more then any of the others. Typically in the playoffs they’re defense doesn’t step up, this year (through 2 playoff games) the defense looks great. Manning has had two sub-par games, he typically has a sub-par game against the Pats in the playoffs, and I can’t see him having 3 sub-par games in a row. Dallas Clark, Clark has been playing so far over his head since he’s come back, the pats dealt well with Gates, however Clark is playing better then Gates. Can a LB keep up with him? Can an undersized DB take him down? So, of course I pick the Pats still, I wouldn’t put money on it. (Rule, never bet on the home team, your judgment is always clouded by either feelings or the fact that you know more about the home team then visiting teams). I pick the Pats because they have a better running team then Baltimore and I don’t think the Colts will have the same luck shutting them down, Yes, LJ didn’t have a great game against the Colts but he only ran the ball 13 times. The Pats have a good defense, #2 against the run, I don’t see Addai having the same luck as LT. Manning hasn’t played well this year in the playoffs and has a history of not playing well against the Patriots. Also the Pats DB’s have played well in the playoffs which won’t help Manning. I think you’ll see the Pats do what they always do. BLITZ! They will be all over manning, which allows DB’s who normally wouldn’t be able to stay with Harrison or Wayne to cover them because they won’t be going deep, it will be short routes because deep routes will get Manning sacked (or throwing the ball away) a good pass rush makes your DB’s better because they’re not being asked to stick with WR’s and long/deep. I’m not picking the Pats because “they always beat the colts in the playoffs” in the same way I laugh hard at people who pick the Colts because “Manning is due”. It should be a good game, I’m not worried about our kicker, Adam has more experience but Steve G has a better leg (which is part of the reason Belicheck made the move he did). If the Pats lose, it will be the Colts defense getting to Brady, taking away the deep ball and throwing off the short routes and the screens. The key for Manning is Clark, he has a monster first half and the Patriots have to consider double teaming him which then leaves Harrison or Wayne most likely one on one. On a non game note… How stupid is Michael Vick? Airports where they check everything, where they didn’t allow shampoo and toothpaste incase it was an explosive, you bring a water bottle with a hidden compartment that has weed in it? I’m convinced if they went to a 5-wide simple system Vick could have a really good year, but now I think he might be too stupid, trade him to the Raiders and give the ball to Schaub! Vel ----------------------- out! |

I forgot to mention on the Clark key to the game if the Pats have to pull a LB to double him, it hurts the blitz and the run defense, which would open things up for the Colts.

A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a New England Patriots fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they are Pats fans, too. Not really knowing what a Pats fan was, but wanting to be liked by their teacher, their hands flew into the air.
There is, however, one exception. Susie has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different. "Because I'm not a Patriots fan" she reports. "Then," asks the teacher, "what are you?" "I'm a Indianapolis Colts fan," boasts the little girl. The teacher asks Susie why she is a Colts fan. "Well, my Dad and Mom are Colts fans, so I'm a Colts fan, too" she responds. "That's no reason," the teacher says. "What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was an idiot. What would you be then?" Susie smiles and says, "Then I'd be a New England Patriots fan." |

You're right about Dallas Clark, but he's hardly played above his head. He's that good make no mistake. He's just a victim of a team with so many weapons. The guy makes some of the best catches i've ever seen from a tight end. He's to Manning what Novachek was to Aikman, accept he plays the slot position like a 3rd WR. He's one helluva a mismatch and if teams blitz ( like you think New England should ) , thats when you see 20-30 yard passes dropping in to Clarks hands down the middle of the field. And when catches them, he takes the hardest hits and holds onto the ball. This guy is sick. See the Baltimore game. |

Problem is, if the Blitz is coming, he wont be 20-30yds down field, if the Patriots Blitz the way they can, you're talking 5-10yrs slants and quick outs, which is where Wayne or Harrison "could" really hurt the pats but haven't in the past. Samuel is playing as well as Ty Law did in his best years, it's Hobbs I worry about... he plays good, but tends to get burned at least once a game on a big play and he seems to be getting a big ego lately, if you count the swipe he took at a player that was missed by the refs last week I think he'd have a personal foul in the last 3 games. Either way, should be a good game, I don't see a blowout. Adam V does have ice water in his veins and will be kicking in a dome, but that only matters if the Colts put him in position to win the game, I don't think it comes down to that... I say whoever wins does it by 7-10 points. |

I think the pressure is on the whole team to perform to be honest. Its the New England Patriots we're playing. We need a complete performance to beat these guys. Defense and Offense and Special teams.

Well your neg rep didn't do much either. I'm just saying I don't understand why everyone who hates the Pats acts like a bitch when they win every year. If they win a SuperBowl, I guarantee this thread will be filled with bitching by people like Nervous Ferret. It's not a bad thing that they're consistantly a good team.

Yeah but I have to take the abuse for it because I'm a Pats fan. I was thinking it would be ironic if the Patriots lost to Indy by a Vinatieri field goal but even more ironic if they won by a Gostkowski field goal.

I'm fairly certain Vinatieri is going to have a chance to win the game and will shank the kick and the Pats will win. Then he'll be all upset and Peyton Manning will go over to him all mad and shit and as soon as Manning turns his back BAM steel chair to the back of the head. Then Vinatieri rips off his Colts jersey to reveal a Patriots jersey and gets a mic and tells all the Colts fans to stick it. Then Tom Brady comes over and spray paints nEp on Manning's back while fans throw trash onto the field.
NFL booking has become so predictable |

And then after the Pats win the Super Bowl and everyone in Indy is seriously bummed, the Pats have a Super Bowl parade but right when everything looks like it's going the Pats way, Mike Vanderjagt comes up through the bottom of the stage and gives everyone a reverse ddt except Brady at whom he points a black bat. Vanderjagt then gets on the mic and says "I told you I didn't screw the Colts. I told Peyton Manning he could trust me. Well today, I'm making myself a Free Agent. All you who doubted me can stick it."
Peyton Manning is seen watching this event unfold and he can be heard saying, "I should've never called him an idiot kicker. I should've trusted him." |

Mike Vanderjagt has a decidedly different look about him these days.
As newest Fox commentator Mike Tenay astutely points out, "This is not the Mike Vanderjagt of old. He is a changed man." Last edited by Supreme Olajuwon; 05-04-2009 at 02:59 AM. |

Second, It has worked, every year they have been knocked out of the playoffs it's been by a physical defense. Your offense didn't bean the Ravens, your Defense did. I wont call the Colts WR "Soft" but I'll explain why everyone says that. Every year they get knocked out of the playoffs by a physical defense, the defense blitzes Manning and the DB's jam Harrison and Wayne at the line and it throw's off the timing patters that they run. The Blitz giving Manning less time to throw and the bumps at the line slowing down the release of the WR's, that is why they're called "soft". Until they prove otherwise that will always be the image. Until Manning wins the big game he will always be 2nd to Brady, it's the same with Marino and Montana. Marino set all the records but Monatana won the rings. If the Pats were out, I'd like to see Manning win a ring, simply because I like him more then Marino and would rather no see him compared to Marino in the "can't win the big one" way, but until he does, that's how he will be looked upon. |

So tell us RP, how will they win? What is the game plan? What is so different about these two teams this time that the Colts will win the playoff game.
I'm not saying the Colts can't win, I just want to hear your reasons why/how. |

So, to summarize, your whole reason for winning basically boils down to this – You don’t think the Pats can win because they don’t have anyone who can go man-to-man with Harrison, Wayne and Clark. Yeesh, if that’s all you got, expect a real long day on Sunday. Heck, I’m not a Colts fan nor do I follow the team much, but I could make a better argument then that for the colts winning. |
