Lara, why would the trade suck if Heatley signed for less?

Which he didn't. 13.5 million over 3 years. Wicked! That saved 4.5 million. "Hossa, who was headed to arbitration Tuesday, will earn $5 million this season, $6 million in 2006-07 and $7 million the following season. while Heatley will earn $3.5 million, $4.5 million and 5.5 million." http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=134320&hubName=nhl This is a beautiful deal, they get a guy who has the ability to match Hossa's offensive output, for a whole lot less, plus they get rid of a dead weight salary eater in Devries and now there is a chance they can keep Redden and Chara. Muckler is awesome. That being said too bad he couldn't get Hossa to sign a contract like Heatley's because on a personal off the ice level I don't like Heatley, but that's okwith him now in a Sens uniform he'll grow on me , especially if he performs like I know he can. |

What's wrong with Heatley's off ice personality? The fact that he got in a car accident while drinking? That's bullshit. No second chance in your view?

I like the trade. More because they saved money than any other reason. Hossa was probably the most gifted offensive player to ever wear a Sens jersey so this definitely is a great loss. My hope is that we will see this trade pay off when it is most important at playoff time.
I'm thinking there will be one more big trade before the season starts. I heard rumours of either Richards or St. Louis being moved from Tampa in a salary cutting move. |
