I ment he still has something to prove in the playoffs, he has already proved he is one of the best running backs in the NFL but he hasn't shown much in the post season. I think he is going to need a big game againest the Panthers, Matt "We're gonna take the ball and score" Hasselbeck has always put up big numbers in playoff games but that hasn't always resulted in W's so I don't think the Seahawks can advance without a strong performance on the ground.
I was just looking threw this thread becuase I was gone for a week. One thing I saw was wondering how fast Watson was, I am pretty sure he ran a 4.4 at the combine and put up like 565 max bench press or something. Dude is a beast, he improved more and more as the season went along. This was really like his rookie year, he played like one game last year. So hopefully he continues to get better. |

Yeah dude, the whole Pats > Your Team is pretty null. I mean yeah, they've been great the past 4 or 5 years or whatever. Fact is, they are out now and someone else is gonna be the champ. You don't see Cowboys or 9er's fans coming in and saying, greatest dynasty of the 80's, 90's or whatever making them better than anyones team.

Everyone is on the whole the Pats gave the game away the Broncos didn't win it, heck even NFL network had some thing with NFL films the other night where they dissed the Broncos. The Pats made turnovers, but the Broncos still had to capitalize on them. I think they beat Pittsburg, simply because I think Shanahan is a better coach then Cower and will find a way. |

Like, for me, the Giants did a lot better than I ever would have predicted, but they got stomped in the playoffs. Theres no two ways about that. People can say whatever they want, but next year, like the Pats, we'll be back. |

If Denver can force 5 turnovers over again they'll be headed to the Superbowl. I dunno if they can do that or not. Steelers defense looked really impressive againest the Colts but the Bronco's offense is more effective on the ground so it wil be interesting to see what'll happen. I really don't know what to expect from this game. Even though I've never really liked Pittsburgh, I would like to see Bettis win a ring this year. A lot of people really discredited his worth when he was only coming in for short yardage a while back. Hes still a great running back, one of the greatest of all time. I was glad to see his career not end on that play on Sunday, he would have been the next Buckner. Nobody remembers him being a Buckner being a great player, he's only known for the bobbled ball.

haha true true, but it wasn't like that rule was put into place on purpose to help the Patriots. The 5 yard contact rule was put in place to improve passing offense in the NFL - and at the time the Colts had the most prolific passing attack in the NFL.

Are you trying to say that they are calling pass interference now and that they werent back then , but since the Colts bitched about it. Now they actually have to call pass interference? Is this what you are trying to say?

Joey Porter is a moron though. It's not like the refs knocked the ball out of Polamalu's hand. How would they have screwed them then?
He must have something stuck up his ass. |

The rule isn't pass interference, it's illegal contact. They are two different things, with different outcomes in terms of penalty yardage. |

It looks as if Duante Culpepper might be wanting to get out of Minnesota now. After giving him a big raise last year (I think mainly in bonuses) he is asking for more, and the execs are just laughing in his face. It's kind of a mess, but he has been sketchy for a while now about his rehab and the new coaches.
We should trade him to New Orleans and take Matt Leinart off their hands |

It was both Mike Martz and Tony Dungy on the rules committee that pushed for this. Yes I do realize its been in the rule book for years, but its kind of funny on the timing of wanting to "re-enforce" it. Saying it had nothing to do with the Colts is funny. The rule wasn't put into the place the year after the Patriots won their 1st Superbowl and beat the Rams. It was put into place after the Patriots won their 2nd Superbowl, which was the same playoffs that the Patriots beat the Colts. Which happend to be 2 seasons after the Patriots beat the Rams.

Pass interference is pass interference. They put that rule in because it obviously wasnt being called. It was more of a marker for the refs to look for when calling pass interference. This absurd idea that the league wanted to help the Colts and Rams is ridiculous. The call wasnt being called and you know it.

It has nothing to do with the league wanting to help any team out. It has to do with certain coaches, of certain teams, pushing for a harsher enforcement of certain rules when it would be most convienent for them. No denying that. It has nothing to do with the league.

By all means, let's call every single hold, too. Even when it's minor, or incidental. And tack on a 15 yarder for every celebration a player does. The rules are in place, they're just "conveniently" ignored to help with the flow of play!
But who wants that. I want to see Freeney get 53 sacks next year. |

That's what it comes down to, the fine line between making the proper calls and "letting them play", there is always a push to "let them play" then eventually a team will complain.
Also, I think the contact v. pass interferance is confusing the 5yd bump rule with pass interferance. Within 5yds of the line of scrimmage you can "bump" or "jamn" a WR or TE, you can't tackle them. After the 5yds, unless your making a play on the ball or it's "incidental" such as both players looking at the ball and their feet tangle, it's interferance. You have to "let them play" to an extent, but taking a WR or DB out of a play should be called, all this soft stuff should be let go. The complaints were coming from St. Louis and the Colts the two teams who had recent big losses to the Patriots, the Steelers didn't complain simply because they play physical the same way, where the two "Dome Teams" were all on timing patters and "track teams" so to speak. I don't fault them for it. RP - as we discussed before, the last time there was a "focus" on reinforcing that rule was the season when Dan Marino set that TD record, so it's kinda funny that the two seasons where QB's threw for the most TD's were when the league was focusing on that rule. and as time goes by it will become lax'd again, every year the Refs target a different rule they "bring it back to basics" so to speak and call everything, it gets everyone to pay attention and then they slowly lax the rule again and then down the road when it's really being abused they push it again to bring people back in. |

Yes, but that receiver who has been "breathed on" may not be the primary receiver. However, if the QB starts to scramble, that receiver may be #2, #3, etc. If he is bumped out of position, it could affect the end result of the play.

I guess I should rephraze what I said earlier too. I don't think the NFL wants The Colts to be the Superbowl champion or something. I just think the NFL wants teams like the Colts to win, with flashy passing attacks and shit like that, so they try to give teams like that every advantage possible. Everyone always says "Defense wins Superbowls" but everytime a team a defensive struggle, people say the game is boring.

Ask anyone the worst Superbowls, they probably say Ravens vs Giants a few years ago, Ravens D was sick. Or Bears vs the Patriots Superbowl 20 when the Bears ridiculous defense murdered the Patriots.

![]() I'm not being literal, of course; but if in the course of the rules being enforced, receivers can go without being touched... then we will see a lot less "football" players on a football field, and more "athletes." As Joey Porter said. |
