That whole play with Posada and Cano was just a big "what the fuck"? I mean it was pure comedy watching Posada gesture to Cano to keep coming to 3rd, but yet Posada doesn't sacrifice himself to get tagged out, HE GOES BACK TO 3RD, which totally confuses Cano. Then Cano is just standing there with his hands on his hips a foot off the bag. What's like the 1st thing we are taught when running bases? No matter what, GET ON THE BAG. Even if Posada and Cano are both on the bag, Posada is only out.

It reminded me of the meltdown the A's had against the Red Sox a while back

Exactly. I don't fault him at all for that call. And I want to shoot Tim McCarver in the fucking face for saying otherwise.

He went on like a 5 minute diatribe about how he got call wrong and how he should have been looking at his feet, BUT HELLO?!?! Then where stuck with the same exact problem, only looking at one aspect of the play.

The ump looked at it right, just got the call wrong.

I think Posada might be going a little senile in his old age. Between that play and walking off the field after 2 outs with a man still on third he was screwing up all night. Not to mention earlier this year he had trouble remembering the count while at bat and walking back to the dugout with only 2 strikes.

yea, but the umpire at short/2nd is suppossed to be looking at the centerfielder for the catch and the umpire at 3rd is suppossed to be looking at 3rd. That's why you have 4 or 5 umps on the field

what boggles my mind is the umps are really suppossed to get together after that play no matter if it was the crew chief that made the call.

Ok so one is looking at the catch and the other is looking at the runner. Then what? After the play do they get together and discuss it over their synchronized watches?

"I have him making the catch at 6:47 pm."

"Oh that's good because I have him leaving the bag at 6:47 pm as well."

"So he's safe right?"

"Right!"

The ump 3rd made the correct decision to look at the catch while keeping the runner in the peripheral. He just blew the call.

well, obviously you're being stupid. it's a judgement call on the basis of what the ump's saw. One ump should of never made that call. It does happen in baseball and has happened since baseball existed.

True but only the ump at 3rd and home had good vantage points. The ump at 3rd having the best. And something tells me even if they did conference, the ump at 3rd's decision would be made final.

Think about it, there's no way the ump at 2nd saw both aspects of the play. Maybe the ump at 1st had a good vantage point. But it would have come down to what the ump at 3rd and home saw and the decision would have most likely gone to the ump at 3rd seeing as how he had the best vantage point.

sorry, I left work after I posted that last one and just got a chance to respond.

I know when I play (and I play right field), one of the umpiress will go to the outfield and signal "catch" once the catch is made and then the other umps have to get in a position to where they can see the "catch" signal and the runnner's foot at the same time. Obviously, it's always a tough call.

My problem with last night was how are you going to call Swisher out when you clearly were blind to the bag. And he never admited that he had a view of Swisher's feet.

I'm sure there's an umpires guide somewhere on the internet so we can see what is suppossed to happen.

Flat Breezy (nickname cuz of the flat brim of his hat) was actually awesome as a closer in tight situations. Its too early to tell if they made out like bandits. Josh Bell has potential at 3B (probably will be opening day starter) and was the Dodgers 8th ranked prospect and Steve Johnson (Os broadcaster Dave Johnson's son) has some potential as well but he's probably at least 2 years off from sniffing Camden Yards and thats if they rush him (which could happen considering the merry go round that is the Os pitching staff as of late).
