Pedro Feliciano appeared in his 89th game last night, breaking the Mets' record for appearances for a third straight year. God damn. And with 6 games to go, he'll probably find himself in at LEAST 3 more.
They have a tricky situation with him this offseason. Some sites are saying he'll be a Type A free agent and others are saying he'll be a Type B. Either way, the Mets would have to offer him arbitration which would probably guarantee him a salary of around $3.5-4 million. That's damn good money for a lefty specialist, so I can't see him turning that down. Likewise, I'm not sure the Mets are going to want to pay that much for him especially with the 2011 payroll pretty much already at this year's level. Even though I worry that his arm may fall off, I think it's worth the risk. If he stays, you'll get a huge bullpen piece back. If he goes, you'll also get something back. Although if he's Type A I have a hard time seeing anybody sacrifice their first round pick for him, meaning he'd just come back for cheap. |

Well, as long as the Pads take out the Cubs tonight and split that series, they have a chance. They're 2 back right now. If both teams stay on pace, the Padres would have to sweep in San Fran to clinch.
Hopefully the Diamond Backs scratch out a win tonight and the Padres win, giving them a 1 game deficit with 3 to play. If they can take 2 out of 3 in San Fran, they'd be tied for first, and I'm pretty sure the Padres own the season series. Also, Atlanta is going against Philly, and will hopefully get creamed. As long as the Padres make the playoffs, I'm happy. |

Jon Lester tying to become Boston's 1st 20 game winner since Beckett won 20 in '07 and the 5th for the team since Pedro's epic 23 win season in '99
Beckett - 20 (2007) Schilling - 21 (2004) Lowe - 21 (2002) Martinez - 20 (2002) |

The Braves have an extremely high chance to stumble in the playoffs, and eventually lose to whoever they play. No one should be scared of the Braves right now.

Well...my Padres dropped the series to the Cubs and now head to San Fran down 3, needing a sweep to tie the division and hope that the Phillies knock Atlanta for wild card hopes.
Offense has completely shut down. It's pretty depressing watching my team crumble right before my eyes. Here's hoping they go back to small ball and can score some runs and shut down the Giants this weekend... |

Had Clay Buchholz (17-7) not missed a good chunk of the season due to injury, they could have been looking at two 20-game winners this year.

Honestly, when the trade was made I was thinking "WTF are the Reds doing?" because I felt like the Reds just added an older and more injury prone player, when they are a younger team. But Rolen's been a stud for them obviously

Rolen's defense is awesome. He never displayed himself as much of a threat at bat in his time with the Jays, but oh boy, could he play 3B.

Has anyone seen this shit?
Busted! Reds reported after smoking victory cigars in clubhouse Someone called from home to complain that the Reds were smoking cigars in the clubhouse? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? These are the same losers that sit at home on the weekend with the USGA/PGA rule book at their side, watch a golf tournament, and call officials when they see a player blow on a blade of grass the wrong way. Unreal. |

I too was skeptical of the Rolen move at first, but it's been great. He'll be making reasonable money on his 2-year extension as well.
Not sure if the Reds have a young 3B in their system that they hope to be big league ready in a few years...obviously Rolen's the perfect guy to help him out during ST so he can take the reigns once Rolen likely retires after 2012. |

Mets set to fire their manager and GM once the season ends but also admitted to not expect any big names to replace either 2 positions and they won't go out spending to improve the team during the winter.
They won't be offering the new manager and GM $1+ million deals like the current ones have since this offseason will be all about trimming payroll and costs due to the team being too expensive and not producing any good results last few years. |

Not sure where they'll go for GM. Whoever they pick though, the Wilpons gotta stay the fuck out of his way. This year will be tight money wise, but once the shit contracts come off the books after 2011 the new GM has gotta be able to do what he wants without the Wilpons over his shoulder the whole time. |

Red Sox planning weekend celebrations to end the season even though the season itself ended up worse than spring predictions.
Friday was supposed to celebrate the 50th year anniversary of Ted Williams last game. That got pushed to pre-game for Saturday's 1st double-header game. Saturday is both Johnny Pesky's birthday and a "Thank You" celebration for Mike Lowell's end of his career. Sunday is the normal end of the regular season celebration for the fans. |

Rays go down and the Yanks/Red Sox got a doubleheader today. I knew they wouldn't get the game in.
Big day today. |

Raul Valdes pitched in both games of a double header on Wednesday. He is now starting today's game.
All the while, Oliver Perez just sits in the bullpen.

R.A. Dickey pitched 7 innings on Wednesday. He was just randomly put in the game out of the bullpen, his first relief appearance of the season.
All the while, Oliver Perez just sits in the bullpen.

Approaching the 4 hour mark in this first Yanks/Red Sox game. Don't know how anybody's gonna stay awake for the 2nd game. Hell, I'll bet Fenway will be mostly empty for that second game.

Setting the stage for the final day of the year:
-Rays hold the AL East tiebreaker over the Yanks. Yanks can only win the division with a win and a Rays loss. Rays win the East in any other scenario. -If the Padres and Braves both win, there will be a crazy three-way tiebreaker for the first time ever. Giants/Pads for the NL West on Monday and the loser/Braves for the NL Wild Card on Tuesday......worth noting that the loser of Monday's game would have to fly cross-country to Atlanta. -If the Padres win and the Braves lose, the Padres win the West and the Giants get the Wild Card. |

If Bautista can steal 1 more base (to give him 10) he wuld join only Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds as the only players to ever hit 50+ hrs, be walked 100+ times, have 30+ doubles and 10+ steals
