I dont see why not. He deserves it. A guy of that caliber should not be performing like he is right now. Its basically inexcusable in my mind.

I mean, if Kaz Matsui can muscle up a playoff grandslam in a tie game. I think the least A-Rod can do is get on first base.

Hows it feel to know that if A-Rod is hitless going into his last atbat ( or possibly first for that matter ) and he doesnt get a big hit, he'll be booed so loudly, he definetly wont be back to New York next year? That has to suck.

LOL D-Backs and Rockies. You gotta think that is the last thing MLB would have wanted; Philly and Chicago would have been a big ratings boost. The Diamondbacks are really boring IMO so hopefully Colorado pulls through there.

The Yankees better stop this trend of sweeps this year when they play tomorrow.

Report: Steinbrenner says Torre's job on the line against Indians

As New York stands on the brink of elimination in the first round of the playoffs for the third season in a row, owner George Steinbrenner says longtime manager Joe Torre needs to advance in the postseason if he wants to keep managing the Yankees.


"His job is on the line," Steinbrenner told the Bergen Record. "I think we're paying him a lot of money. He's the highest-paid manager in baseball, so I don't think we'd take him back if we don't win this series."

Torre makes $7 million a season and is in the final year of his contract. The Cleveland Indians lead the Yankees 2-0 in their American League Division Series.

Roger Clemens will take the mound for New York while Jake Westbrook will start for the Indians.

During his 12 years leading the Yankees, Torre has taken the Bronx Bombers to 12 consecutive playoff appearances and four World Series titles.

"He's been good for us over the years," Steinbrenner acknowledged to the paper.

Steinbrenner also had some choice words about retiring veteran umpire Bruce Froemming and his decision to play through the late-game bug infestation during Friday's Game 3 extra-inning victory for the Indians.


"The umpire was full of [expletive]," Steinbrenner told the paper. "He won't umpire our games anymore."

Yeah, I'm sure a lot of people were sensing something. But its different when Steinbrenner comes out and says it. Like I said before, this either gets them fired up or puts more pressure on them and they keep pressing.

ROFL Steinbrenner is such a joke, HE WON'T UMPIRE OUR GAMES ANYMORE!!

The bugs where there for both teams, its not like they where only bothering the Yankee players or something.

I hope Torre does get fired because I think hes a great fit for that type of team, he might not be the best manager decision wise but he is able to work with a locker room full of the type players they bring in. I feel the same way about Terry Francona, he makes a lot of decision that level me thining "the fuck?" but he knows really knows to handle a locker room full of big money players and his results have been pretty good (playoffs 3 outta 4 years, 1 World Series Championship, 1 Division Title) I'm the biggest Yankee hater there is, but if you can think you can just write off Joe Torre because he coaches the team with the highest payroll than thats just dumb. I mean pretty sure the Mets are the 3rd highest aren't they? Look where that got them

Really hope Torre gets fired though, would be the best thing to happen to the Red Sox in a while

Yeah that's hilarious...especially since MLB decides the umps.

I'd like to see the game end like this: First and second, two out...A-Rod at the plate. Base hit to the outfield somewhere, ball is thrown in, close play....Bruce's decision. Rules the man out to end the game as Bruce flips off the owner's box and leaves.
