According to Sony, they are giving developers full control over the Share button with the sole ability to determine which parts of a game can and can't be shared.

According to reports and semi-confirmed by Sony themselves, all PS4 games will be mandated to include PS Vita support with Remote Play so far being the only thing mandated. Games that require a camera will be excluded from the mandate.

I'd assume the same that was done with the PSP in regards to remote play of PS3 games.

People already are assuming the PS4's front touchpad controls would just be mapped to the back touchpad of the Vita.

It was put to the analog stick on PS1 games, but I don't think you could play PS3 games on the PSP. They could get away with it because a PS1 game could always use the d-pad so you could map the nub to perform the shoulder buttons. Presumably they'd have to make the back panel support the shoulder buttons as well.

Er, they didn't really have a choice in that. I don't think they could afford to give away a Vita with every console unless it came in at $599 again.

If I get a PS4, I will probably get a Vita now though. Using off-TV play on my Wii U is just brilliant.

Sony announces Free-to-play MMOs Planetside 2 and DC Universe Online will both be getting a free-to-play PS4 version although offered no details in regards to potential (or any) cross-platform play being included.

Sony explained some of the reasoning behind why they are charging for online multiplayer on the PS4.

Its due to both the rising costs of running PSN and the current PS+ program wasn't enough to cover those costs/losses. They also had to decide between potential dropping a few features or having everyone pay for multiplayer in order to keep PSN the way it is now.

Every time I read some comment online about somebody being bewildered at the idea of paying for online play. It's been a key subject in fanboy wars. It has decided console purchases. All this generation I've read pompous ass after pompous ass either damn Microsoft for making XBL Gold premium, or praise Sony for having free online play. And all this time I'm thinking; yo, this isn't splitscreen or even system link - there's a lot of shit going on under the hood.

But I wasn't putting anyone on blast in here if that's what you were you thinking.

There's a lot going on under the hood, so let's monetise it even though we clearly could run the model previously without it. I'm betting we will see the "need" from a lot of publishers still providing free PC online.

Though Sony's online always kinda sucked. I'd hate to see what a stripped down version would look like.

XBL was better than PSN for a reason, I'd like to think a premium cost was a big factor. As I was just saying on FB, now Sony can catch up and have something to rival XBL.

Of course a lot of PSN's issues weren't budgetary as they were just bad design but that can be improved with time.

It wasn't cost, it was hardware. Things like party chat couldn't be done because Sony didn't reserve enough for the background.

A lot of this sharing stuff is going to free services rather than Sony servers, so it seems a bit disingenuous to call those out as costing. Hell, they should be behind a pay wall then instead of online multilayer if that's the case.

I do kind of love PS+ though. The free games are insane on PS3 and Vita and although the PS4 ones will be indie games for a bit (and Drive Club being a special plus edition doesn't count), if you own all the Sony systems, it pays for itself.

Hate that I missed most of those. like 80% of those are fucking awesome. No idea what Jet Set or Gravity Rush are. Others are worth PS+ for those alone.

The great thing about the free games is that as long as you 'purchased' them when they were free (as in, you just downloaded them while free and it marked them as purchased) you have access to them as long as you have PS+. They just took Infamous 2 off I'm pretty sure, but since I 'purchased' it before they did, I can always download/play it, which is what I did.

According to Sony, free-to-play games can be exemption from needing a PS+ subscription to play online although its all up to the publisher's decision to do so. Sony already states Planetside 2 and DC Universe will not need it.

I'm more than happy to become a permanent plus subscriber, I've had it for a year and I have about 30 games on my HDD I payed £30 for, and there's still months left till I have to renew.

During the time I had a 360 I felt incredibly ripped off that they kept the IE, netflix, on-demand apps, basically every online feature behind the LIVE pay wall. Greedy sods.

It seems very stupid to limit Netflix access when you had a premium subscription to it. Using EI on a TV screen is stupid and non-point so I didn't mind. But is you're gonna lock Netflix behind Gold, then having Gold should have automatically granted you netflix streaming. Just seemed very strange. We have a smart TV that goes right to Netflix but I can see how dumb the system was on 360.

If it streams it streams. Now that I think about it, since Netflix menu on XBL got Kinectified, it became slower. Stupid. The smart TV Netflix pretty much looks like the Wii version.
