I'd love for Bobby Cox to get one last shot at the World Series. And I'd love for the Rangers to go all the way to the Series too.

Nick Swisher has earned his pinstripes, man. When they first traded for him, it didn't seem like a big deal, some people even said he was washed-up and he would just be a bench player, but the guy has come up big.

Kinda scary to think that if the Twins played in NY, Gardenhire would likely be out the door after once again shitting the bed in the playoffs.

That Twins/Yankees game was over at 1-0. Their bats could not compete.

Interviews don't begin until this week but it sounds like Sandy Alderson is the early favorite to win the Mets' GM job since he's interested and the Mets really want to get an experienced baseball man.
There were even some whispers that Tony La Russa could come to NY with Sandy. Jon Heyman already put the kibosh on that idea, not that he really has any credibility. He's wrong a lot of the time and he seems to hate the Mets. Even when they actually do something good he puts a negative spin on it. Not that I want La Russa anyway. I have zero interest in him as manager UNLESS Dave Duncan was a lock to come along with him. |

I watched Tony LaRussa (and Joe Torre, for that matter) this past season, and I don't know...they have never been the most fiery or upbeat managers, but this particular season whenever the camera panned over to LaRussa, or Torre, they would look like they were asleep, not interested in what was going on, just letting the team "play it out", so to speak, without them putting major effort into managing the game. Now, that's 99.9% percent wrong, most likely they were into the game, but, nowadays, with so many young guys coming up, and with so many young stars in the game, teams need managers that don't depress you when you look at them, managers that are a little bit more alive. I firmly believe that what happened in St Louis, in LaRussa's case, was that he lost that team, he no longer could get through to the young guys, or to the young stars. In Los Angeles, yes, Torre had his hands tied, basically, because of the McCourts' divorce, but even then, it's a big probability that Torre couldn't have the same impact on the players, as he had 10 years ago with the Yankees.
Very clearly, in terms of managing, there is a changing of the guard, old skippers are retiring, and new, young managers are getting their chances. And that's how it should be. You can't tell me a change of vision, and direction, can't help the Cardinals, Mets, Cubs, Dodgers, etc. |

I think the Rangers should have started Lee today on 3 days rest. If he could have gotten it done, he'd be able to start Game 1 of the ALCS. He'd also be nicely set up for Games 4 and 7 all on 3 days.
Instead he's likely going to be pitching Games 2 and 5. If he pitches Game 7, it'd be on 2 days rest. |

Wow. I didn't realize that Lee had NEVER gone on short rest.
So if they want to keep up with that, that means Lee would only be able to go in Games 3 and 7. Yeah...can't see it going anymore than 6 games. |

Having these champagne celebrations after winning the ALDS is kinda...I don't know. When you win your division, it's cool. When you win the ALCS, also. When winning the World Series, of course. But after the ALDS, it's kinda pointless. Maybe it's just me.

I would say that it shouldn't happen after a championship series, but then I thought about the Red Sox beating the Yankees in 2004

it's fine if you win the pennant but I think it's kind of lame for the Division series.

Seems understandable if you pull out an exciting win in the Championship series, but it also seems kinda pointless and uncalled for if you just sweep the Rangers or something and pop champagne

Meh, I don't see anything wrong with the champagne celebration after the division series. Yeah out of the 4 champagne celebrations the WS-winning team gets to have it's probably the least significant, but at least you still advanced to the final four.

When you win your division, or the Wild Card, it's ok, cause it's like "We made it to the playoffs!"
Celebrating w/ champagne after the ALCS, it's also ok, cause then it's like "We are the best team in our league! We won the pennant!" And after the World Series, it's like "We are the best team in baseball!" But after the ALDS, it's like "Eh...we just moved to the next round". It's lame. |
