The more time I've had to think about it the more I've hated it. Every fight scene was obscured by useless humans doing nothing but running around. Not to mention every fight was covered in clouds, dust, smoke, rain, debris, etc.
Bummer as it turned out to be the turd I was afraid it was gonna be. And I've lost faith in how good Godzilla v Kong is going to be. |

I dunno man, I've seen that complaint, but I didn't really have trouble following the action. It would be cool to see a daylight fight, but I imagine a big part of the reason is that it's much easier to hide CGI looking too much like CGI with a night setting.
Plus, I think they make up for it by combining the monsters effects with the night setting to create some amazing visuals. A lot of those incredible shots wouldn't look as good in the day. The main negative I had was that it's not paced very well. I never felt tired of the human element in 2014, because of the previously mentioned slow burn. It's not executed as well here, and a couple times I found myself thinking "alright already lets get back to the monsters". That said there's still plenty of monster action. A lot more than 2014, and it's fucking rad. Loved all their scenes. Also really appreciated the easter eggs and attention to the lore of the original series. Kyle Chandler's character was terrible. He just annoyed me the whole film. A lot of the dialogue is cringy to be honest. Like, it feels like dialogue from Godzilla 1998. Except for Ken Watanabe. His scenes are all great. But the positives far outweighed the negatives for me. SPOILER: show |

I think this was the worst movie I've ever paid to see.

Why? Well because other than the pops the audience gave the fight scenes there was nothing enjoyable about the film to me except the beauty of Mothra which I loved. It was way too long of a movie and I hated the way they dealt with the Mother character and her babyface and heel turns. A real piece of shit movie that I felt regretful spending my time and money on.

Yeah, I'm a huge godzilla mark who's seen all 30+ movies, so take my positive review with a grain of salt.
I think one of the main failings of these new Godzilla movies is the human element. There's always a large human element in Godzilla movies. But in the Toho movies they have interesting characters at least. The last two western films have such bland, cookie cutter characters I couldn't even tell you their names. To be fair, it's a lot easier to make the human element interesting when you've got zany out there plots involving aliens, time travel, or any of the other ridiculousness that made up the Toho film plots. But Shin Godzilla showed you can do Godzilla with a plot more grounded in reality. |

Shin Godzilla is great fun. Do not watch it with the dubbing though... Christ.

Pretty pissed they've cancelled plans for Shin 2 to apparently reboot it with their own monsterverse. Which is what I thought the Toho films always were in the first place?
Also they're not allowed to make another movie until 2021 after WB/Legendary have finished theirs? Even though Toho created and owns Godzilla? What? |

It's probably just a licensing agreement to attempt to avoid competing with each other and an attempt to avoid oversaturation.

Godzilla has been rebooted in Japan countless times. It's fairly comical.
I've not seen Shin Godzilla but I've heard good things. |

Dudes been around since 1954. One would expect reboots, especially given the rate they crank out films when its active

It takes a lot of effort to get me to dislike a movie w/ Vera Farmiga....big Vera Farmiga mark here
Other than the fight scenes towards the end this really was a huge mess, sad to say. 2014 film and KONG: Skull Island were better. |

Ugh. Just got back from this. Hard to sit through. Thank goodness today's cheap ticket Tuesday at my theatre or I would have gotten my money back.

From wiki:
Rodan and the other Titans converge on Godzilla and bow to him. This sounds stupid as fuck. |

It wasn't as dumb in context. But it certainly didn't add anything to the movie.
