I am still wholly and utterly confused about every single aspect of Steam Machines. Like... is it supposed to be a PC gaming machine? Isn't that... what a PC is for? You can build a bleeding edge PC and install SteamOS on it for way cheaper than those prices. I simply do not understand.

I hate to be negative about it because I love everything Valve touches but I can't see this as anything but a colossal failure.

Unless (and there is a very HIGH probability of this) people are too lazy/stupid to realize this and/or do exactly what you said.

But PC gamers on the whole are exactly the opposite of that (lazy/stupid)

Like, if it's marketed towards console gamers wanting to get into the PC scene, that's one thing, but even then why would someone with a PS4/XB1 shell out a minimum of $500 for another console that takes more work to get running?

I don't know. Feels like I'm missing the super-obvious point of this

I think Alienware is coming out with a console too.

Maybe all these PC consoles can be updated like a PC, but it's streamlined in a way that us dumb consoletards can easily perform?

So it's basically giving you the higher power capabilities, and upgrading capabilities of a PC without having to learn the intricacies of a gaming PC?

Just like Arkham Knight getting pushed into summer time for extra time to get everything right for the final chapter, I have no issues with Uncharted going into next year. All I hope is after 3 games, they get the gunplay right.

Bought Ori and the Blind Forest today. Thought it got delayed to late summer, but oh well, it was a nice surprise to see it available on the marketplace. Probably won't get to it til the weekend tho, as I've also picked up GTA V, and I want to jump into that right away.

Still. Can't wait to fire up Ori. Looks like my kind of game.

That's a lot of choices to be included in that Just Cause 3 collector's edition. I'm willing to bet it'll be a hefty price tag if all the "expensive stuff" gets voted in.

I bought, played, and beat Ori and the Blind Forest over the weekend.

I really enjoyed this, and any fan of the Metroidvania style games should check it out. It is a quite short for a game of this type, but a lot of that has to do with everything being easy to find. There are even abilities that reveal the locations of power ups on the map.

Ori controls beautifully, and there are bunch of abilities you learn along the way that make him(her?) even more of a blast. You get abilities through both story progression and through skill trees that you unlock through collecting spirit points. You get these from defeating enemies and stomping poor defenseless plants.

The most interesting is the save system. There are a few save spots throughout the world, but they are very sparse. The way you save your progress the majority of the time is creating your own save point. Like a save state on an emulator. However when you create a save point it takes a block of energy away from a meter you are given. The energy in this meter is also used to open doors, and for big charge attack. I should also note that it is only possible to access the skill tree at a created save point. This creates a great level of depth to the game, where you have to think carefully on how to best use your energy......until about a third of the way into the game, when you've collected enough meter extensions to where it;s not even an issue anymore. Seriously, this was a great idea, but it is completely underutilized, thanks to the abundance of power ups.

The game is freaking gorgeous. It is definitely one of those "indy game making a case for games as art" types. The soundtrack is hauntingly beautiful.

The difficulty isn't particularly challenging. I died plenty of times, don't get me wrong, but they were mostly dumb mistakes, and I never felt anything was truly challenging outside of the escape sections. Oh yeah, that's the other thing. In lieu of boss battles they have these escape sequences that finish off each section of the map. They're fun, and as I said, more challenging than the other parts of the game, but I think they should have thrown in a couple bosses too. This type of game just feels like something is missing without them.

That brings me to my rant. I know it's kind of a tired and cliched thing to say, but.....wow, today's gamers are pussies. I've been seeing this game get a lot of criticism. Why? The escape sequences are "TOO HARD". I'm not even that great of a platformer, and I was able to beat all of them in a handful of tries. Mean while, all these people are saying it's "cheap bullshit". No. It's not. Everything in these sections is fair. And in fact, I can see someone who is exceptionally good at platformers beating them on their first or second try. Anyone who says the challenges in this game are cheap, doesn't know the definition of the word. They should pick up an NES and find out. The problem isn't with the game. The problem is they suck.

Sorry. Had to get that off my chest. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaanyhoo, while it's short and has a few other minor flaws, it's still a lot of fun, and at $20 bucks, I don't think the brevity is even an issue.

Proper review man, kinda makes me wanna pick it up now. Also agree with EVERYTHING in your rant. Games are much easy anymore, but I think that is because now more than ever, it is all about the $$$. Make a game that is "fun" and people will consume. Generally, if a player is having "fun" it is because they feel super powerful (or whatever iteration you wanna use) and can walk through the entire game.

Rayman Legends is a challenging game for sure. I am on the level called "All Hell Breaks Loose" or something like that, and GOD DAMN the last section of that game where you have to drop walls while sliding down and moving saws, wall running, flipping from side to side.... it is definitely hard. I don't feel like it is cheap though, just matter of the correct button sequence and timing. Solid post man (y)

Nothing like those. It's open world freedom like old school FF. Action based combat system kinda like Kingdom Hearts crossed with FF13. I feel like you about FF, but I was sold on this within like 5 mins tops. It was like immediate relief, they still remember how to make FF right.

Grabbed the Mortal Kombat Kollection on PS3 for .90. Aside from the controls being a bit wonky from their predecessors, it brings back memories.
