Not a good sign that there is no footage just two months from release and the box art looks kind od dark. Hope it keeps it's fun Britishness to it.

They did the same thing with Putty Squad and it turned out OKish. I think they're just going to slap slightly higher resolution assets on the original and call it a day.

I was super excited when I first read your post but, thinking about it after seeing boxart, I'm imagining it being updated.
Just the character designs being more modern. Replacing the fat bald thugs with hoodies, the posh snobs being thin, attractive "celebs" etc.

Worth mentioning, in regards to Shovel Knight and Smash. Lucas, Roy, Mewtwo and Ryu were NOT added as a result of the fan poll. The fan characters are still to come. The only reason I can imagine Shovel Knight not getting in Smash, as it seems like almost anything can happen these days,is the fact he isn't a huge deal in Japan, as far as I'm aware.
I feel if a character is huge in Japan but unknown in the west, they are still viable but if a character is huge in the west but virtually unknown in Japan, they are automatically extremely unlikely to make it.

I always pictured Nintendo as a company that was all JAPAN #1 first but also saw America as a place where a bunch of really stupid people are incredibly eager to part with their money, so if something were popular over here they would milk it because they know dumb Americans would eat it right up

When Nintendo puts out a Nintendo Direct and someone speaks Japanese, Europe gets it in Japanese with subtitles while America gets it dubbed over with an American voice.
Refrences to Japan, like rice balls, become western things like sandwiches in the US.
Kirby is always tough and angry on American box art because they don't think you'll buy it if he looks cute and happy.
The SNES got a makeover in the US, becoming blocky and dull because they thought you'd not want it if it was curvy and colourful.

Nintendo seems to think very little of Americans, in my opinion. Everything has to be "cool" and as American as possible as if anything that isn't will terrify you.

Nintendo of Europe doesn't have its own Treehouse crew?

That's the group who does the Direct episodes and translation stuff here. Got promoted in recent years to handle their E3 shows.

Not really. In Directs, we get Iwata and some other Japanese guys I can't recall the name of.
We have a localisation team but that seems to be more for translation. We get a mix of Japanese stuff (The Japanese SNES model) and American stuff (American spelling in a lot of games, the Kirby boxart thing)

1) Some highlights from Nintendo's annual big investor meeting includes:
  • Club Nintendo's replacement likely will include special discount deals on the eShop.
  • Admitted they failed with the Wii U in terms of sales and couldn't rebound it like they did with the 3DS' poor launch.
  • Won't be dropping Wii U and 3DS support in the near future.
  • Are reconsidering how they handle their E3 announcements plans in order to improve future E3 Direct shows and prevent disappointments.
  • Implied Nintendo will no longer be having soft console launches in terms of their own games in order to keep third party companies happy. Hurt them a lot with the 3DS and Wii U launches while 3rd parties barely provided system selling games needed.
  • Admitted they are having serious problems with supply games for their current Virtual Console service.
  • Their mobile plans include making games that don't heavily rely on a very small pool of players being the bulk of revenues earned.
