Sorry, I don't want to sound like I'm calling your pick "stupid" or anything, Wishbone -- by all means feel the Dead Man if you do -- but I find him one of the more interesting suggestions put forward to discuss, because to me, I'd expect him to be one of the more widely agreed to be limited guys suggested.

I mean, that's why Hogan hasn't come up, isn't it? Hogan knew how to work for those WWF audiences. But he wasn't exactly the most versatile in the ring. His promos are iconic, but not exactly eloquent masterpieces of a whole range of emotions. You want to measure star power? He'd be right there with Austin, Rock and Andre. Well, you could then go back and argue territory guys, proportionately, but that's an entirely different discussion. This is the more imminently interesting discussion because there is that wider interpretation of what goes into being an all-rounder.

So please don't take it as me "slamming your opinion" or whatever or trying to make you feel shit about enjoying or suggesting Taker. I find him one of the more stirring answers you can give. I just cannot wrap my head around any sort of objective measurement to go along with your subjective opinion of him that would put him in the top four of almost anything. Even gimmicks is questionable, as just how to define a gimmick is quite broad -- Flair could be considered a gimmick, Hogan a gimmick, Savage a gimmick, Austin a gimmick and even Brock's modern day ass-kicking machine in a world of flip-flop guys a gimmick.

Taker might be the most distant from his true personality to ever achieve such a large, long-term success in the wrestling business. It seems that everybody that gets to the top is somewhat "them turned up to 11." Taker's ABA run was kept generally short.

He wasn't always constantly the booker either. It's not like someone would have taken over and kicked out Lawler because it wasn't working. Whereas Kevin Owens isn't working and he's still in his position.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't really consider how my previous post could be taken as something of a spoiler. I should have spoken more vaguely. Classic internet asshole behaviour.

The discussion on Eddie Guerrero is interesting. Certainly a great all-rounder, but I've probably underrated his cultural significance in the past.

Chris Jericho is a candidate that just doesn't come together for me. Liam, you point out that his babyface work doesn't hold up, which might be it, but there's something that just doesn't work when considering him with the greatest all-rounders of all-time. He's great -- and probably my favorite working today -- but all the elements that make him great seem to exist almost independently of each other. I'm not sure if that makes anything resembling sense.

Someone like Shawn Michaels oozes their character through their ring work constantly. It really tighens him up as an all-rounder. It's hard to say this without sounding like a pretentious internet fan, but Jericho's general work seems to be less "alive" than that. I feel like a twat having said that.

I kinda agree with you on Eddie and Jericho. Something about them just makes it not feel right to put them on a list of the all time "best" all-arounders. Still Eddie is my favorite wrestler of all time, and Jericho is right there near the top of my list too.

Eddie synthesized it all better to me. He was a complete package all the time. Jericho...I dunno, something seems disjointed about his work. Liam brought up that great point about his face stuff not holding up. There are also large slumps in his career where stuff didn't work. It's also possibly an emotional thing -- even though I love Jericho.
