What if Brock had never left?

Just a hypothetical discussion here. Brock was obviously pushed to the moon straight out of the gate in 2002, won the belt within 5 months of his debut, headlined WrestleMania, and was more or less the face of SmackDown throughout 2003.

WrestleMania 20 rolls around, he's facing Goldberg in one of the more surreal Mania matches ever, with the crowd that knew both guys were on the way out taking a big heaping dump on both guys long before that was a common occurrence in wrestling.

He has a bitter divorce from the company, leaves for the NFL, tries to get back into wrestling but has an ugly legal battle with WWE which sees him effectively banned from wrestling in the US, goes to New Japan and immediately wins the IWGP Title, wrestles occasionally for a few years, goes to UFC, and finally returns to WWE in 2012 where he's been booked as a legitimate attraction ever since.

So what happens if he eschews the NFL opportunity in favor of sticking around with WWE in 2004? How does this change the course of the company? Is he still wrestling in 2020 with more years tacked on as a full-timer? Does he have anything close to the same mystique?

This question popped into my mind with the thread about if JBL was a transitional champion, because he seems like an obvious loser if Brock sticks around. SmackDown needed a new main event heel and JBL got the role. Very possible he never gets that chance with Brock as the perennial top of the card heel on the blue brand.

John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar might very well have been the main event of WrestleMania 21.

Batista vs. Brock Lesnar could've been a marquee program in 2005/06 assuming they carried on with Batista and Cena winning their respective titles at Mania 21.

Feel like Brock would've been a permanent SmackDown guy, and Heyman might not've been inclined to leave his post as the head of SmackDown creative if Brock was at his disposal the whole time.

I think Brock stays on SmackDown because of Triple H's insecurity. He is probably goes over Goldberg and then takes the belt off Eddie when he hits his wall. Brock vs. Cena is probably a big match at Mania (I don't know if it particularly changes Triple H vs. Batista closing, or whether Brock being there assures them enough to take their time with Orton.

Feel he'd still eventually leave. One of the main reasons why he departed back in 2004 was him no longer feeling motivated for wrestling since he had achieved everything he wanted to do in such a short period of time.

Him staying around even for a short period of time likely causes the Cena era to never happen. Lesnar leaving when he did combined with Orton's struggles to become the next mega star gave Cena that golden opportunity to fill the void. If Lesnar is still around, Vince doesn't have that desire to find a replacement or have anyone be at his level like he did when Cena was on top.

Brock would have had a hell of a career, but nowhere near where he is today.

The fact that the dude went and became the UFC Champion and by all accounts the 3rd biggest draw in their history have him FAR more mystique and credibility when he came back to WWE.

That first match he had against Cena at Extreme Rules was incredible, and he didn't even win.
