I love Jericho, and his 2008 run was phenomenal, but I have to agree with this. Jericho's stuff can be very rote, and he's very, very good and delivers in other areas as well, but this idea that he's one of the best ever in the ring doesn't really hold up when you compare him to others.

Which isnt to say he's bad...feel like that needs to be said...he's just hailed as an 11 and thats a stretch

As for promos, while I know where you are coming from, and Jericho is a "natural" on the mic, I think the great HBK promos are arguably better than most of Jericho's work by a mile. How about that segment in Montreal? Or that one where he slowly turned heel against Daniel Bryan? Jericho is probably a better talker, in the most natural sense, but when you strip away the catchphrases and return the promo to its most genuine form -- talking people into a building -- I think HBK saying "The Showstopper is going to be turning up this Sunday" is going to get more people buzzed than anything Jericho could say. |

The Triple Threat with Angle and Benoit? I did watch this recently, but don't remember being blown away. I think I definitely preferred Jericho/Michaels. I can't think of another great Jericho Mania match, to be honest. I think Jericho vs. Punk was "good." I liked some of their stuff, but emotionally I felt that the build left it a bit dry.

Oh, yeah, he's not bad by any means. He's not just "average" either. The dude is "good" and capable of doing "great" stuff. It just wasn't a thread of 11, like you said. #1-wwf-fan gave it a good framing when he pointed out that what was arguably Jericho's best match wasn't anywhere near Michaels' best match. In fact, I'd probably suggest that it may not touch Michaels' top five at Mania, just depending on where you sit on the Triple Threat, the Ladder Match and Flair's retirement.

I said Shawn Michaels pulled a watchable match out of The Great Khali.
You are confused by that because The Great Khali no longer wrestles. The fact that The Great Khali no longer wrestles should not make the fact that Shawn Michaels pulled a watchable match out of him at one point confusing. |

I hope you're okay, Sixx. Try not to operate heavy machinery or anything. Not making fun, you sound genuinely exhausted.

In the end I went with Y2J. It was too hard of a choice for me to make based on their merits, so I did this in honor of my boy Tazz Dan and all Jericho did for him.

Its true. He has always been a bit below elite in the ring. But at the same time as many times as hes come.up short in the ring, he has had some absolutely fantastic matches. 2000 is probably his most consistent year.

Went with Jericho, I like HBK but have truly grown up watching Chris Jericho and really only see HBKs later run in the WWE. While HBK is probably the better in ring talent I believe Jericho is more well rounded from a character and promo standpoint while also being pretty good in the ring.

Dunno. Gonna go with Jericho.
HBK might have had better matches, but Jericho also had his fair share of good matches. Even in his last run where people were like "Jericho isn't good in the ring anymore" I was alone off in the corner going "These are good matches! He's still got it!" The deciding factor I guess is looking back I can remember more Jericho moments and things....................... just his personality and stuff puts him over for me...................... Wanted to vote for HBK just based on rassling...................... but taking everything else into account I think I gotta go with Jericho................................................. Maybe................... I dunno................................. maybe I just want to make the poll even tighter. Last edited by Lock Jaw; 09-13-2017 at 01:12 PM. Reason: Edited for Sixx |

Plus, while HBK might be a super-Christian, he was never tag team partners with Christian, so he loses points for that.

Here's a random/great Rockers story. After they were fired from the WWF/AWA in 1987 the two landed in Continental. The two were approached by a young girl asking for an autograph. The two signed "we're lesbians! Shawn Michaels/Marty Jannetty". The young girl was the daughter of a t.v executive whose channel broadcasted the Continental weekly t.v
They were fired lol. Last edited by Bad News Gertner; 09-13-2017 at 05:11 PM. |

Really tough choice but gave the slight edge to Jericho mainly due to being entertained a lot more with him.
Feel Jericho was better in terms of in-ring skills and promos while HBK had more bigger moments due to his star status. Both did a really great job reinventing their careers with their multi-runs in the WWE. |

I dunno like I said Jericho just seems like he can do it all maybe I need to watch that Iron Man match Shawn and Bret had again
Plus I dunno that Jericho ever had the pull and opportunity HBK was afforded and if he was would he have been as successful? |

Pull isnt an entitlement, its something you create. Not having it is a mark against a guy not for him.

Jericho definitely had opportunity. lol
He debuted against The Rock, was a staple in the IC division for years and was the first undisputed champion. Which led to a WrestleMania main event against Triple H that was incredibly underwhelming. |

... Then like 5 months later HBK came out of a 4+ year retirement retirement and had an absolute classic with HHH.

My first Smelly Meatball post after voting him as KING thanks to his irrepressible work ethic....is him saying Chris Jericho is a better in ring wrestler than Shawn Michaels.
Immediately filled with regret! Poor Lock Jaw :-( |
