One, WWE already did that for real. Wasn't funny then, wouldn't be funny now.

Two, it wouldn't fit the "Steph accessorising Kane like a Ken doll" motif of the joke.

Triple H vs Kurt Angle from WWF's Memphis Championship Wrestling developmental territory.

-Features a young Daniel Bryan at the end. Daniel had a WWF developmental deal at the time.

Also with him are Brian Kendrick, Shooter Schultz and Jason Sensation.

I wonder if it trips Daniel out that one day he'd be headlining wrestlemania with Triple H, going over clean, and winning the unified championship on the same night. That's gotta be a crazy thing to think back on.

That Dirtsheet note about the "Black Power" stable still being "in the works but they're trying to work out how best to present it" tells you all you need to know about the current state of WWE booking.

Why start something on TV before you know what you want to do with it? Or, why continue to use the guys separately on TV in the meantime?

So I'm watching Smackdown right now and am I the only one who thinks dropping Swagger's feud with Rusev for a feud with Bo Dallas was completely stupid? I mean they had a great thing going and then WWE just killed it all for a feud that won't lead anywhere. If the dirt sheets are to be believed (or Boleived) then Bo isn't getting a push from this and Swagger would benefit far more from a Rusev feud.

I'm hoping it is just a little detour... continue to keep Rusev strong... keep Swagger away from him for a bit... then maybe Zeb returns and they kick it off again and Swagger finally gets his win.

I'm guessing the plan isn't for Swagger to be the one to beat Rusev. If that's the case, the feud had to end. Rusev has beaten him at two straight PPVs in ways that kept both guys looking strong. No need to keep the feud going so Rusev can just keep beating him.

I may be wrong, but I think it's possibly bad timing as opposed to bad booking on this one. Kind of in the same vein of Vinne Mac being exploded, then "some guy" died for real, so they dropped that shit short. Didn't they kick the angle off, and then all the shit went down in Ferguson, MO? If that's the case, I'd be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for erring on the side of good taste/skipping potentially damning PR here. I'm just not sure how close the two things happened because I generally try to stay away from the news, so I could totally be wrong.

I'm not sure who the best female workers in the world are at the moment, but if the WWE signed two joshi to contracts -- one who is more cutesy and marketable and another who is more of your heel bruiser type -- they would be so beneficial to the division. Even if the heel girl ends up as a trainer in NXT, or working as a heel down there for your Becky Lynch/Alexa Bliss type to eventually overcome.

If people are interested enough to google a wrestler, chances are they’re interested enough to tune into Raw to see them. The numbers compare 2014 with all of 2013, based on daily average (the first seven months of 2014 would therefore weigh evenly with the year 2013), with a percentage increase or decrease. The list originally included boxing and UFC stars, but for purposes of our pro wrestling focus, we’ll only list the WWE stars. One thing that can be said about the overall data, is that WWE has massively overtaken UFC in terms of interest. The Observer reports that “WWE, which was dueling evenly with UFC in 2010, is now far ahead, going from 72 percent ahead last year to 150 percent ahead this year.”

In fairness to the UFC, they’ve been terribly unlucky with major injuries and drug suspensions this year. The unpredictable nature of their industry has hurt their ability to present compelling narratives, in turn hurting people’s interest in the product.

The WWE will be very pleased with the following data. Key conclusions can be made on their most popular new star, the increased popularity of their divas, the biggest name amongst their legends and of course who really is the most popular current active superstar.

20.
SPOILER: show
Brie Bella, 184.2% Increase From 2013

Brie Bella didn’t even rank on this list a year ago, which means her popularity shoots up 184.2%.

The reason for Brie being more interesting this year was down to several factors. She continues to be a major star on Total Divas, in addition to weekly appearances on Raw and Smackdown. She also got married to Daniel Bryan and started featuring alongside him in storylines. Her association with Bryan and the Yes Movement elevated her own popularity.

An even bigger factor in Brie’s google rise was her feud with Stephanie McMahon. A key WWE narrative for months on end, it made Brie a veritable main event act at SummerSlam. WWE did well to utilise Brie’s popularity in that angle, in addition to making her even more popular as a sympathetic babyface. All of this generated more google interest.

Plus, Brie’s hot. Pretty girls are and always will be a draw for pro wrestling fans. It isn’t surprising to see her getting googled regularly.

19.
SPOILER: show
Ric Flair, 5.7% Increase From 2013

Nature Boy Ric Flair was ranked 28th on the overall boxing / UFC / WWE list last year and remains in 28th this year. He does however have a 5.7% increase in google activity, which will be down to his increased appearances over 2014. You also have to factor in things such as the WWE Network, which now allow for more exposure of WWE Legends. Plus, he’s the 16 time World Champion and one of the most loved wrestling characters ever. Appeal like that never goes away, Naitch is and alway will be someone we have interest in.

18.
SPOILER: show
Big Show, -12.7% Decrease From 2013

Big Show is still in the top searched for wrestlers, but his overall interest is way, way down.

A 12.7% decrease in searches reflects his lack of activity this year. With the exception of being destroyed by Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble and being tossed over the top rope by Cesaro at WrestleMania, Big Show has done almost nothing.

Contrast that to a year ago where he was regularly featured in high profile situations. He even started 2013 as Champion and finished it in main event title bouts against Randy Orton. Those storylines were loathsome, including a disastrous Survivor Series buyrate, but it did allow Big Show to stay a searched for subject.

This year the company just haven’t used the Giant as much, resulting in his decline on google.

17.
SPOILER: show
Eva Marie, 127.3% Increase From 2013

A massive increase in popularity for the red headed diva. She did just about rank last year, but this year finds her much higher in google’s most popular superstars. Part of that will be down to her increased appearances on Raw and Smackdown, although the bulk of her popularity will be down to Total Divas. She’s a key character on the show, involved in some of this year’s most interesting storylines.

However, Eva Marie’s biggest appeal has to be her looks. People want to search for hot women, a lot of Eva Marie’s searches are no doubt for images!

16.
SPOILER: show
Stephanie McMahon, 79.1% Increase From 2013

Stephanie McMahon has became far more of a tv presence in the last year. As the heel authority figure, she’s oftentimes delivered the promo of the night. This eventually resulted in a return to the ring, with Stephanie beating Brie Bella in a main event match at SummerSlam.

Given her weekly increase in tv time and delivery of astounding angles, Steph getting searched more isn’t surprising. More often than not she’s been a main character, key to the ‘Yes Movement’ storyline in the run up to WrestleMania 30.

Additionally, Stephanie remains a good looking woman. Fans are inevitably going to search for her just to trawl through google images.

15.
SPOILER: show
Nikki Bella, 130.3% Increase From 2013

Another woman who probably had male fans trawling through google images is Nikki Bella. It’s pretty remarkable that she’s so much higher than Brie, seeing as they both look the same and Brie’s probably had more screen time.

Still, what Nikki does have going for her is bigger boobs. Let’s face it, that’s probably made the difference. Nikki got her boob job back in 2012 and it instantly made her the hottest Bella. Call it superficial, but that’s the reality of it. Bigger boobed girls draw more interest in wrestling – hence why so many divas get boob jobs.

Nikki is also the girlfriend of John Cena. Fans have enjoyed (or suffered, depending on your point of view) the drama of John and Nikki’s relationship on Total Divas. It undoubtedly led to more Nikki Bella searches on google.

14.
SPOILER: show
Roman Reigns, 394.1% Increase From 2013

The most substantial increase of WWE related google traffic is for Roman Reigns. He didn’t feature on last year’s list when part of The Shield, but this year he has been pushed strongly as a solo star, leading to a 394.1% rise in searches.

This data will be reassuring to WWE, acting as confirmation that they’ve pushed Reigns correctly. They’ve legitimately made him a top level star and fans clearly have a ton of interest in him. That bodes well for the next stage of Reigns’ push, which will culminate in him becoming WWE Champion at WrestleMania 31 we presume.

What could also be a factor in Reigns popularity is his broad appeal. The guys want to be him, and the girls want to be with him. He’s got quite the popularity with WWE’s female audience, so there’s probably some image searches going on which boosts his ranking.

13.
SPOILER: show
Randy Orton, -12.0% Decrease From 2013

Randy Orton’s decrease of 12% might be a worry to the star and the WWE.

The thing is, Orton has actually been far more featured in the first eight months of 2014 than he was in 2013. He had four months at the start of the year as WWE Champion. Even after losing the belt in the main event of WrestleMania, he still remained a heavily featured headliner in matches with Roman Reigns and The Shield.

It’s ironic then that searches for him have actually dropped. It looks like a case of familiarity breeds contempt. Newer stars like Reigns got pushed on TV and their google rank went up, but with an older star like Orton, his push has only subdued searches. The message to WWE is that we’ve seen enough and got bored of Orton.

12.
SPOILER: show
Sting, 347.6% Increase From 2013

Sting has done very little in 2014, yet still ended up the twelfth most popular wrestler in the google metrics.

This can be attributed to his long-running WWE contract negotiations. He’s reportedly been close to signing with the company since WrestleMania 30, so people are obviously checking the internet daily in hope of developments.

The one thing that Sting did do this year is lend his name to WWE 2K15. When he appeared in the teaser trailer for the game, wrestling fans got very excited. That will have sent searches up and helped create a general interest in the Sting character.

Just a year ago, the WCW Icon was stranded in TNA. That helps explain why his increase is up so much, people just don’t care about the TNA brand. When you start mentioning Sting in relation to WWE though, suddenly he becomes a point of interest.

11.
SPOILER: show
AJ Lee, 32.1% Increase From 2013

AJ Lee’s google metrics continue to increase. She spent most of 2014 as Diva’s Champion and is regularly in featured spots on TV and pay per views. Even when she did take some time off, from April to June, Lee still made headlines when she got married to CM Punk. Her relationship with the exiled wrestler has helped to boost AJ’s own profile, with people most likely searching out details of her private life with Punk.

You then also have her looks playing into it. She represents the alternative choice, a different kind of sexiness to Eva Maire or Nikki Bella. Many wrestling fans like that alternative appeal and the fact that AJ represents the one true wrestling diva in the company right now.

10.
SPOILER: show
Stone Cold Steve Austin, 35.5% Increase From 2013

Proving the appeal of legends in WWE, Steve Austin is the first of eight wrestlers in the top ten who either don’t wrestle or only wrestle part time.

That should be a slightly worrying sign for WWE, it’s indicative of the company problem in creating new stars. Stone Cold Steve Austin hasn’t wrestled since 2003, yet eleven years later he’s still one of their most searched stars.

The increase in his searches this years should be attributed to his radio podcast and WrestleMania 30 appearance. The podcast in particular has been great for Austin’s profile, giving him weekly exposure to talk about whatever interests him. He’s had some brilliant interviews with current WWE stars on the show, which in turn has meant that Austin regularly made the headlines. Add to this the epic ‘holy trinity’ angle at the start of Mania 30 and you’ll see that 2014 has been Austin’s hottest year in some time.

9.
SPOILER: show
Daniel Bryan, 109.6% Increase From 2013

This year has been bittersweet for Daniel Bryan. It started with him getting snubbed at the Royal Rumble, which ironically propelled him into even stronger popularity. From there WWE gave him the push that everybody dreams of, the journey to WrestleMania 30′s title match, where he won the world heavyweight title to close the show.

Just a month later though and Bryan was having to take time off for a neck injury, which continues to keep him off television. It was a cruel twist of fate on a man who had only just hit his career peak. The Bryan era was over before it ever really got going.

The increase in searches will be due to his title push. He was the biggest active name in wrestling from January to April and was also starring on Total Divas. Even now, with Bryan out injured, fans will still be googling daily to get updates on his condition.

8.
SPOILER: show
Triple H, -14.6% Decrease From 2013

Triple H remains one of WWE’s top ten searched for wrestlers, but he’s also 14.6% down on his popularity from last year. This decrease comes despite Hunter’s character being featured far more, with weekly appearances now pretty much a given. You might have thought that would’ve resulted in more Triple H searches, but obviously not. Maybe that suggests an apathy to The Game’s heel Authority figure act.

Still, he remains one of WWE’s most famous acts of the last decade. That level of historic appeal, combined with his current actions, ensures he’ll remain one of the most googled WWE names.

You also need to account in Hunter’s increased work as a WWE corporate executive. Whether it is an on-screen or off-screen story, there’s usually some Hunter related news bouncing around the internet these days.

7.
SPOILER: show
Brock Lesnar, 58.0% Increase From 2013

Brock Lesnar’s increase in searches is undoubtedly down to his conquering of the streak. When he pinned The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30, ending the 21 year streak, none of us could quite believe it. Right away the internet exploded with searches to try and make sense of what had happened. The name Brock Lesnar was on all of our minds.

Lesnar has continued this momentum by going on to challenge for the WWE Title at SummerSlam, so a rise of 58% on last year’s google metrics isn’t surprising. He didn’t really do much of note last year, just an average feud with Triple H and one great match against CM Punk. This year has been the opposite, with the streak victory being the biggest result of the century.

You’re always going to have Lesnar as one of the top searched names on this list. It isn’t just that he’s got WWE appeal, he’s also a UFC legend and somewhat of a mainstream profile. Lots of people will be searching him out.

6.
SPOILER: show
Batista, 85.1% Increase From 2013

Dave Batista was one of WWE’s biggest stars from 2005 to 2010. That stardom has endured, even last year when he wasn’t with WWE, he was still featured 29th on this list (which also incorporated the boxing and UFC stars). That’s exactly why WWE brought him back in January of this year, his continued name value and fame were seen as a boost for the WWE brand.

It didn’t quite work out that way. Batista was quickly criticised by the fans, who bemoaned his undeserved victory in January’s Royal Rumble. Still, fans may not have been talking about him in a good way, but they were at least talking about him. His eventual heel turn and main event run to WrestleMania 30 ensured his google searches went up.

Then came Guardians Of The Galaxy. Batista left WWE in June to promote his role in the blockbuster film, which will account for even more searches of his name.

He’s now both a credibile mainstream star as well as a WWE superstar. That should keep him near the top of WWE related searches for some time to come.

5.
SPOILER: show
Hulk Hogan, 69.0% Increase From 2013

Can you believe that Hulk Hogan was on TNA television this time last year? It seems a lifetime ago!

As a WWE superstar, The Hulkster has witnessed his google searches going up 69%. That speaks measures of the difference in perception between TNA and WWE. When Hogan was with TNA, less people cared. Now that he’s back with the McMahon empire, fans care again, his name is far more googled.

Hogan’s biggest role since returning to WWE was hosting WrestleMania 30. There’s also been Raw appearances and the usual media rounds, all of which made Hogan way more interesting this year compared to 2013.

4.
SPOILER: show
The Undertaker, 56.3% Increase From 2013

The Undertaker’s increased searches are definitely down to his streak loss at WrestleMania 30. It wasn’t just a big wrestling story, it actually morphed into a mainstream media story. Even the BBC news covered the fact that Undertaker had lost for the first time ever at wrestling’s biggest showcase. Everyone was looking up ‘The Undertaker’ to get the gossip over what went down.

It isn’t just controversy that makes Undertaker a search term though, it’s also the fact that he’s one of the most iconic performers ever. Fans are constantly looking him up, trying to figure out when he’ll next return or discussing his greatest moments. His legend will endure for many years to come.

3.
SPOILER: show
CM Punk, 96.2% Increase From 2013

The man who internet fans simply can’t get enough. The name ‘CM Punk’ has became a google and social media sensation in 2014, shooting up 96.2% in google metrics.

The reason? It has all been down to the mystery around his January exit. Punk quit the WWE, with neither side offering any comment on their dispute. That instantly sent google into overdrive, as fans immediately started googling Punk’s name in hope of getting answers on the matter.

Even now, the mystery endures, so a mere mention of Punk’s name still gets the internet wrestling community excited. That continues to send the google metrics up and up. The rule should be ‘out of sight, out of mind’, but it has ended up being absence makes the interest grow stronger!

The Wrestling Observer reports that Punk’s google numbers blow away anything he ever did when actually on television, and Punk interest even surpassed John Cena during mid July when the Money In The Bank PPV emanated from Chicago.

Whether Punk and WWE like it or not, this story (or should that be non-story?) looks set to roll and roll.

2.
SPOILER: show
John Cena, -3.3% Decrease From 2013

John Cena’s google popularity dips slightly, but neither he or WWE will be worried.

The 3.3% drop can be explained by his lack of a WrestleMania main event this year. Last time around he was in one of the biggest matches of all time, Rock Vs Cena 2. That alone probably accounted for his extra searches last year.

Regardless, John is still WWE’s most googled full time wrestler. Whether it’s fans loving him or fans hating him, everyone wants to talk about him. He remains popular mostly because WWE push him hard, including making him champion in June at Money In The Bank. However, his searches also stem from the fact that he’s a legend in his own right now. Whether he was pushed or not, he’d easily be in the top ten. He’s so embedded in the WWE franchise that they’re almost one of the same.

Additionally, Cena has mainstream appeal. He’s a celebrity in a way that Daniel Bryan could never achieve. This level of interest is always going to keep him firmly entrenched at the top of WWE.

1.
SPOILER: show
The Rock, -2.0% Decrease From 2013

Just like his WrestleMania 29 opponent, The Rock finds a slight dip in popularity. Again, we’d attribute it to not featuring in WWE’s WrestleMania main event. Instead, the only WWE involvement we’ve seen from The Rock this year, was his surprise appearance alongside Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin during Mania 30′s opening segment.

However, The Rock is still WWE’s most googled name. Only Floyd Mayweather can claim to have more searches in the overall UFC / WWE / Boxing google metrics.

Still, what we must consider, is that The Rock also has a string of blockbuster movies that will also be rocketing his brand up the popularity scale. People will be searching him out based more on his performance in Hercules than any real WWE connotations. So really, you could argue that John Cena should be considered WWE’s biggest name on google.

In conclusion, what we can say about google’s WWE metrics, is that the company needs to create new stars. Cena has been around forever and other names in the top ten are at best part-timers. Daniel Bryan has made a dent, but even if he had stayed fit, he probably had reached his plateau.

The signs are encouraging for Roman Reigns who is 394.1% up on last year. He has to be WWE’s one big hope for a bold new vision in 2015.

I actually agree with this to a huge extent. Good observation.

– WWE NXT Diva Sasha Banks recently debuted a new theme song. The song is titled “Sky’s The Limit” and is done by the band CFO$. You can download is now via iTunes.
I haven't heard any of this song, but I'm going to go ahead and throw out a few guesses. 1) Bad EDM/Dubstep beats. 2) Downgrade from last theme. 3) It's a 30 second loop.

Can anyone braver than I am confirm?

Sort of sounds like similar to that Daniel Bryan "im a monster theme" in beat. Doesn't sound like a loop and there is a bit of bad Electric at the start. Might actually be an improvement because of lyrics.

I liked her old theme, but that one is actually not bad. Several weeks behind on NXT. Should catch up.
