Even if he retires now he will still be the most successful ATGBR winner in the year to follow the win.

Fuck, didn't see this when I posted in 100,000. Anyway to just copy/paste:
The Broken/Woken stuff just never took off in WWE for a variety of reasons...took ages to get started with it because of the legal issues, WWE not really understanding the character beyond "Matt Hardy laughs funny", etc. Plus his team with Bray doesn't seem to be particularly interesting. I'm not really sure they'd be able to salvage interest in the gimmick at this point. But no matter how it was executed, he still got to do the gimmick in WWE which from all indications was one of his goals when he re-signed. He also got a nostalgia run with his brother which saw him get one of the biggest pops in recent memory and is the very definition of a "WrestleMania moment" the company always harps on about. He's about to turn 44 and has two young kids at home, hardly would be a surprise if he's decided to call it a career after SummerSlam. |

He's been working so stiff as himself. I kind of believe it.

Maybe he would be a good asset to the Performance Center as a coach of some sort?

Wouldn't be surprised if that was the main reason for his sudden heel turn since the Woken gimmick was running on fumes and hit the ceiling quickly with his pairing with Bray because of the sorry state of RAW's tag division.
A little surprised his return run lasted this long considering WWE's wear-and tear type schedule alone. Probably the toughest thing to adjust back to after years of being on a more laxed style work schedule. |

The woken gimmick had fans cheering for it to happen before it did, then when it did it died off quite fast.

Matt can wrestle a couple years in indy scene. He's not that old, and his gimmick has its fan-base. He should leave WWE, all his run there was awful.

He's had a good innings. I was a big fan of Matt Hardy when I started watching. The wheels started coming off a little after his return in 2005, and there really wasn't a main eventer in there. His run in TNA was bad comedy, but it fooled the people who still watch enough to get him back and be the highlight of a WrestleMania and slum on a salary for a while.
He'll get to do guest spots and coaching stuff for as long as he remains sane. But with Jeff around, Matt's kind of an anchor. The Broken/Woken stuff is/was lame, and while The Hardy Boyz have value, there is probably more value in Jeff alone and you don't want to constantly be reminded that Matt exists. |

I'm kinda surprised WWE didn't just write him off and try to hire Reby.

Seems a big reason for his possible retirement is due to his hip and back are starting to fuse together. He's starting to feel the health effects from doing top rope leg drops during his career.

It's weird to see a Hardy speaking out about high risk stuff.

I know he is the older brother, but who saw Jeff outlasting Matt??
If what Matt does caused his bones to fuse, by comparison Jeff should be completely immobile. On another note, while WWE has really dropped the ball on the Woken stuff, just because Matt isn't wrestling doesn't mean they can't keep that going. Hell throw Ascension in there, would be more interesting than most of Raw. Last edited by xrodmuc316; 08-06-2018 at 06:07 PM. Reason: Fixed spelling |

And yes. Just make him a manager. He can have a PREMONEEETION about his change in focus to build a highly verbose or mispronounced stable. |

I think Jeff is a creature from another dimension. He might still look exactly the same at 83.

Also, tell me Woken Ascension wouldn't be better than the 4 announced Raw matches for tonight. Here’s what WWE has announced for tonight’s Raw: – Ronda Rousey vs. Alicia Fox – Bobby Roode vs. Mojo Rawley – The B-Team vs. The Revival – Bayley & Sasha Banks vs. Riott Squad |

The Ascension are awful. So is Raw. But so is The Ascension. It's much of a muchness.

The only match of these that made the Hulu edit was Rousey vs Fox if that says anything.

I don't like the brand split, but I'd rather they did two USA Network shows and SmackDown separate than the three-hour Raw with so much filler. It'd hopefully tighten up the bottom.

It wouldn't. It always ends up being the same problem. Brand split or no, they will find a way to maximize filler and focus on the same people instead of bolstering the lower/midcard. Until they fix that, it won't matter what they do.

Matt has made it official. So that leaves Jeff and Bubba as the last two active guys from the TLC matches. So far D-Von's been the only one from the group to retire voluntarily. |

From those matches, I don't know what's more surprising: That there are two guys from it still wrestling or that anyone retired voluntarily.

If this is it, it's nice to see Matt retire while in a good place. He had a rough few years. I'm sure a job in creative or producing segments in waiting for him if he wants one.

Makes sense to call it quits now since WWE set him up with a nice post-wrestling job in the company. No reason to stretch out a decision or risk more wear-and-tear anymore.
Even if his new job in the WWE doesn't last for long, the skills and experience he's going to have as an agent will be very useful for other companies. |
