Rate the Game: Week 123 (THE REAL ONE!!!)
Time to crank out another one of these bad boys! It's Rate the Game: Week 123! We were dangerously close to having to do a redo of last week as Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast didn't get much play across the TPWW Universe. I suppose it's safe to say that the Blue Blur wasn't in the same position in 1999-2000 as he was in 1990. But what position does he fall into with this title on our leaderboard? Behold, I say!
Unfortunately, Sonic Adventure, overall, can't hold a candle to the other Sonic titles we have on the list as it cranks out an average 3.0 and falls among the triple-digit territory at spot 104. That makes it the lowest ranked Sonic game we have...so far. What else do we have in store? There's so little left but we have to press on regardless. Let's make this next drawing as easy as 1-2-3. Behold, the next game to rate here on Week 123! OK, I know for a fact I filmed this fucker horizontally so what gives? Stupid technology. It looks weird. Anyway, let's examine what we got for this week's edition. We're not escaping Sega and its contributions to the gaming world. Just how great of a contribution is a matter of debate as we take a look at another animal from under their umbrella. It's the sea faring adventure with the mammal with the blowhole, Ecco the Dolphin! For most Genesis owners, having this game sitting alongside Sonic the Hedgehog was an important staple but what say you? Is Ecco cooler than Flipper? Smoother than Snowflake? Let's do this rating thing that we love (?) to do so well. And then there were two. Until next week! No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes... ...again. |

It was the Genesis version of Atari's ET.
Lota people had it, no one really liked it. |

I..... liked it, but got lost early on in the game so didn't get to play too much of it. Music was a banger though.

The most middling game of all time. And really obtuse. It controls really well though

Had this on the Game Gear which is pretty much a port of the Genesis game.
This was fun and unique. Kinda had to be smart about exploration. |

Think maybe I played a ROM once? I could be confusing it with this other game where you could evolve to be a dolphin or something

I forget whether it was this game or Ecco: The Tides of Time that had a CD available of the music. I wish game soundtracks were a bigger deal back then. Killer Cuts and the Tempest 2000 bonus disc were the two prominent ones that I can remember.

Just realized the week is almost over and I didn't vote.
Not being a Genesis Bro, I briefly played a friend's copy when I was younger and I think I touched it on the Sega Collection when I was older. If nothing else, it takes advantage of the capabilities the Genesis had. I'd never seen water environments like it and Ecco himself is a well-modeled sprite, not to mention the music that accompanies you on your journey. It's the journey that's the problem. There are a lot of frustrating issues with the design that seem almost cruel to whatever 7-year old would've been playing it back then. It's like Ninja Turtles on the NES. Tides of Time was supposedly better but I never got around to it. I didn't own a Genesis so I most certainly wasn't going to own a Sega CD. I didn't know a single person who owned one, come to think of it, even my die-hard Sega loyalist friend who remained faithful until the end didn't have it. |

I didn't even know you could jump up to cause the tornado that actually starts the game.
It was terrible. |

Talking to the dolphins at the beginning is supposed to give you the clue that you need to do that. For grown-up me that's a no-brainer but dumb 7-year old me was a fucking idiot.

Actually, there aren't any more Sonic games in the pile but thanks for the Sideshow Bob shudder moment.
