I remember Charlie Haas was set to face Rico once and people kept coming up to him in the locker room saying stuff like, "make sure Rico doesn't get you....from behind." And Haas was all freaked out and stuff.

I don't know why that sticks out in my mind.

The dynamic is different, because unlike the women's division, Cena is still the big money full-time draw in the company even if Lesnar and Undertaker right now are completely outshining everyone as stars, and thus you do have to protect Cena's spot until you find a new Cena, and Reigns hasn't been that guy. Using the money guy in the position to make new stars, while at the same time protecting him to where he has to go over at the end, mitigates the value of the new stars he makes if he has to beat them when all is said and done. Instead of making new needle moving stars, they make more upper midcard stars, and they've got the largest roster of midcarders in history. And that's one of the reasons when a big show comes, they have to bring people in from the outside to make it a big deal.
Also in the position that whenever they weaken Cena's spot a bit, they panic the moment his merch sales drop and go right back to giving him a stronger push or focus. Same happened after the Suplex City beatdown vs Lesnar and after Owens-Cena I.

Daniel Bryan appeared on The Boomer & Carton show in New York City this morning to promote his new book and Bryan said he has 3 years left on his WWE contract but returning to the ring depends on getting medically cleared by WWE doctors.

Bryan stated that he has been cleared by a neurologist in Phoenix, who has worked in the NFL but he believes WWE officials are hesitant he could suffer another concussion and are being overly cautious.

We can confirm that independent wrestler Bandido Jr, will be starting work with WWE soon, likely as a referee. Bandido tried out for the company in February, and will be finishing up his independent dates in August, before reporting to NXT for work in September.

As announced last week, New Japan Jushin Thunder Liger is coming in to work the August 22nd NXT Takeover: Brooklyn event. He will face Tyler Breeze on the show. The announcement caused quite the stir, due to the fact that New Japan has a working relationship with ROH. The NXT show goes head to head with ROH’s event at MCU Field that night, which features top NJPW stars Kazuchika Okada, Shinsuke Nakamura, and KUSHIDA. Alex Shelley, Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr are also scheduled to work the show.

The feeling is that this puts ROH in a very bad position. The New Japan relationship is very beneficial to ROH, it provides some talent more bookings, the joint shows in May were a big success (both financially and critically), it gives ROH a big time feel and allows for talents like A.J. Styles, The Young Bucks and Roppongi Vice to be brought in for big events. ROH may feel as if they cannot trust New Japan, but if the relationship changes or ends, it wont happen until after the August event at MCU Field.

One other aspect coming from this is that the New Japan deal is one of the things that makes ROH attractive for some talent, leading to them signing with ROH. Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly and Matt Taven & Michael Bennett have been booked well by New Japan (both teams had tag title runs, and O’Reilly was rewarded with a great BOTSJ run) while Michael Elgin is currently competing in the G1 Climax Tournament ...

Several top ROH talents have their contract expiring in January, and WWE has changed their tone on signing them (now they are interested). The clear message in the independent scene is that talent is being steered away from signing with ROH and TNA. Once ROH signed with Destination America and it was revealed that Kevin Owens had signed an outside action figure deal, Vince McMahon stated that he wanted everyone who has real promise and is a free agent locked up in some form away from TNA and ROH.
Quote:
Wednesday's episode of Ring of Honor on Destination America drew 139,000 viewers. This is up from last week's 80,000 viewers. The replay at 11pm EST drew 37,000 viewers, down from last week's 89,000 for the replay. ROH drew 176,000 total viewers this week, up from last week's total of 169,000.

TNA Impact Wrestling on Destination America at 9pm EST drew 317,000 viewers. This is up from last week's 293,000 viewers. The midnight replay drew 71,000 viewers, in line with last week's 72,000. TNA drew a total of 388,000 viewers this week, up from last week's total of 365,000.

With TNA recently hiring A01 Productions to assist them with the production of their shows, a lot of the old staff was fired.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the ones that were let go were the people who were the most vocal about payments not being issued on time. As noted earlier, management has been trying to find out who has been leaking information about late pay issues."
Update regarding the recent TNA letting go most of their production crew in favor of A01 Productions.

The shows will be taped on 8/9 in Los Angeles and all those doing voice work will be paid $906. It will be a non-union shoot.

The characters are very much an interesting twist because it so much involves the reality of the organization right now. The head of the camp is Vince McMahon, who is supposed to be 50 years old, a big brash, egomaniacal billionaire as well as a loving father who hates complaining campers and ass kissing subordinates, but loves money and power and is always thinking of new ways to run down his competition. The character is described and scripted with this line that you'll just love: "Clearly, the most intelligent character on the show."

Triple H, also called Hunter, is a 14-15 year old Co-head camp counselor, tough and intimidating, a vindictive prankster who is always trying to get the respect of Vince McMahon and always trying to win the love of his daughter. He considers himself to be highly intelligent "but still has a long way to go." Stephanie is the other Co-head camp counselor, 14-15 years old. She has all of her father's traits, arrogant, intimidating, ruthless, but lacks the maturity to get the job done. She tries to run the camp but runs to her father at the first sign of trouble. "She's beautiful, bold, confrontational and fearless."

John Cena plays an eight year old, the "most adorable, cheery, upbeat boy scout type," a cute goody two-shoes who will do anything to bring happiness to other campers. But even though he's a great kid, he's a polarizing figure at the camp who is sometimes used by others to do their dirty work and annoys people because he never gives up at anything and is always trying to inspire others.

Undertaker is the scariest eight-year-old, a large gothic kid obsessed with death and mystical powers. His character is based on, you'll love this, Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy with a touch of Satan thrown in.

Big Show is a big, dumb and gentle eight year old. He's both childlike and monstrous in size. He doesn't understand his own strength, nor the meaning of any word with more than two syllables. They want him to be an eight-year-old Homer Simpson.

Mark Henry is "African American" (thank God for that), who loves girls and food. He brags that he knows everything about women, except it comes out he knows nothing about women, but he's the strongest eight-year-old in the world.

Hulk Hogan is a camp legend who is huge, powerful and charismatic, but tired from being old and being from a different era, but he still tries to connect with everyone by calling them "brother."

Brie Bella is cunning, cute and sneaky. Nikki Bella is the tomboy of the twin sisters, and has the best body of all the women campers. Sometimes they switch places on unsuspecting campers.

Ric Flair is five years older than everyone else in camp, rides in limos and jet planes, is cocky, always styling and profiling, and he's the dirtiest kid in camp who shocks Vince McMahon with stories of his sexual conquests. The comedy is when they make the rich kid live in the wild with nature, so he's the pampered rich kid character being taken out of his environment.

R-Truth is another African-American, who is neither big nor bright, but he's funny and drives people crazy with his misguided theories on why things are what they are, but he's also the most gullible camper who always gives you second and third hand information that is almost impossible to believe, which is ironic because his name is "Truth."

Some other sheet news includes:
  • Kurt Angle revealed on his official website that if given the chance, he'd want to wrestle Daniel Bryan for his retirement match. http://kurtanglebrand.com/dream-match/
  • Update to Lucha Underground money issues as apparently they spent around $20 million to produce Season 1 but don't have enough funds left to do the same for Season 2 without lots of changes being made. Still hoping they get a deal done soon with a new sponsor or tv channel to help cover the costs for the next season.

Ok I understand that Mark Henry and R-Truth are African American but what race is the rest of the camp?

Surely they won't have a 13 year old Ric Flair telling 50 y.o. Camp Director Vince about his sexual conquests.

Speculation around the net that something big recently happened between between the WWE and Hulk Hogan since the WWE pulled down Hogan's profile from their website along with all of his merch on WWE Shop. Also got removed from the official Tough Enough section on WWE's website. Also removed Curtis Axel's Hogan parody profile image for his previous one on the official website.

May or may not be related to Hogan's on-going lawsuit with Gawker regarding his sex tape.

Edit: PWTorch hinting it is related to an audio tape that is going to be made public soon and WWE doing it as a preemptive measure to protect their image. Supposedly Hogan let out a barrage of N word slurs to the point he's now way too toxic of a PR mess for the WWE to even consider reasoning with any time soon (or at all).

Dirtsheets sponsored by The Lesnarman Punch:

Quote:
Tough Enough has been seen as a major priority within the company, to the point that since it launched Vince McMahon has skipped Smackdown tapings in order to personally oversee Tough Enough's production at Full Sail University every week.
Quote:
A couple of weeks ago, we reported that the recent high level of WWE executive turnover had continued with the recent firing of their Executive Vice President of Content, Lisa Fox Lee, and the departure of their Senior Vice President of Digital Content, Rob Bernstein, for a more senior position elsewhere.

As I mentioned in my post, executive turnover has become so high over the last five years that it's difficult to keep track of all the comings and goings ...

You may be wondering why over a dozen high ranking WWE officials have either left or been let go in such a short space of time. The answer can be found in last week's extremely detailed cover story for the Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter (a month's subscription required but recommended for this article alone) by James Caldwell that looked in-depth at what is driving corporate execs out of the company. He paints a picture of talented individuals being initially attracted to WWE by their seeming openness to new thoughts, but quickly growing frustrated by an out-of-touch Vince McMahon's whimsical nature where he frequently changes his mind and only listens to ideas that fit within his narrow, and in his mind superior, way of doing things ...

Regarding the short-lived promotion of Lisa Fox Lee to the newly created position of EVP of Content, this was an unsuccessful attempt to put the WWE Creative, Digital and Network divisions under one umbrella, because she was ill-equipped for the position. Lee had worked underneath Kevin Dunn in his TV department for the vast majority of her two decades with WWE, and it seems that Dunn lobbied for her promotion in order to get his tentacles even deeper into the company and have greater influence over the WWE Network and their other digital platforms without the responsibility. However, Dunn's attempted power play quickly failed when Lee was exposed in creative meetings with Vince McMahon and Triple H, likely due to her lack of product knowledge. After her firing, WWE went back to their old way of doing things ...

Caldwell's argues that Staeger's departure from WWE was an underreported story in the wrestling media having been an Executive Producer in ESPN and a SVP for Dick Clark Productions, and there was even thoughts of him replacing Dunn at one point, but he left the company "because he saw the writing on the wall". As former head writer of Smackdown, Alex Greenfield, found out to his peril any attempts to replace Dunn, even on the secondary show, will be fought by him tooth and nail. Greenfield believes that Dunn "is not one lick more talented than the EP/director of a mid-market NBA team", let alone one that worked for ESPN, and that WWE "would be well served bringing in someone just like that to take over television production because they would be more creative". Not only is Dunn a barrier to more innovative production, but he's also a conservative force creatively, a devil in Vince's ear to hold firm and not fix what ain't broken.
More details at http://officialfan.proboards.com/thr...ng-blame-vince and at CageSideSeats website about the mess behind the scenes at the WWE.

The story I heard this morning is that Ray told the company he was done as he wasn't happy with the current state of affairs of the company and felt it was better to distance himself. Obviously, he was working on a per appearance deal and wasn't under contract.

Nonetheless, it has to be seen as a negative when TNA spends an entire week building up his return on TV and then he almost immediately quits the company. How they will handle his departure from a creative standpoint remains to be seen.

Ha! Love the vertical RKO. Randy should find a way to actually hit that. Even if he has to use a harness like Owe... oh. Nevermind.

I like the idea of just toning down the gimmick a little. Making the dancing less a silly gimmick more just part of his laid back, fun-loving personality. He can even keep the name.

He'd be at his best with a character that allows him to just be his funny, charismatic self without it being a "gimmick" per se. Kinda like The Rock. That's the key to getting the most out of him.

Johnny Fandango should be the Vincent Chase to Miz's Ari Gold.
