Trying to think of an older talent who's good on the mic they could manage Nyla and I'm drawing blanks. It'd have to be somebody who could bump properly so that they can give a babyface some shine.

Enjoyed tonight's show. Tag title match was fun but man I wish private party would ditch that dumb silly string move. Just too contrived for me. I agree that hangman and omega need to drop the belts at all out. I'd like to see lucha bros get them. Mostly because they're Mexican and also because they're legit fun to watch and imo have been misused.
I think it's fine the bucks cost themselves and FTR the match. Them winning after a botch wouldn't build any tension imo. This can start the fire. Everybody looked good in that match. Jericho giving Cassidy a star making night. I think Orange slips right back to the midcard where he belongs but it was a fun match and Jericho made him look credible. Next week's FTR v Lucha Bros is prob gonna be the of the night. That's a ppv level match. I have really liked how they've built up Cage and wish they were holding off on feeding him to Moxley. If They were willing to keep Moxley out of the ring for a while and use the FTW belt as a pseudo world title with Cage destroying babyfaces for a month or so before finally running into and losing to Moxley would be better for a payoff. Instead he'll prob lose clean next week and like Archer and Lee, start back at square one. |

Yikes. Thought at first it was just a really amazing job by the make up crew to create something that realistic. |

Aren't Lucha Bros still spending a lot of time in Mexico for AAA? That might be why they haven't had as much of a focus.

I missed this hematoma. Also I think that everyone is going a little too crazy for Jericho/OC. It was a real good main event don't get me wrong but I don't think it was like a 4 star match or anything.

It wasn't a technical masterpiece or anything but I never expected it to be. I just really appreciated the storytelling from both guys. That match wasn't supposed to be the main but they did it justice and made it work.
Close second behind the crazy 8-man tag for me. |

It was over hyped though, with Jericho's Tweet saying the best match he's had in 30 years or whatever. I compared it to his bouts with Naito or Tanahashi and it's nowhere close IMO. But still good sure.

Dave likely to rate the 8-Man Tag 5 stars. He's raving about it on WOR from last night. "One of the best matches you'll ever see", "maybe the Young Bucks best match", "Likely FTR's best match"...
I think he's getting prone to hyperbole but it was a fucking great match. I just don't think he should constantly be saying stuff like that. |

Hyperbole is a big problem practically every wrestling promotion has nowadays. Everything has to be the best thing ever.
For that reason I don't let other peoples' overhyping impact my own enjoyment. I just take those comments with several grains of salt. |

If I'm trolling around looking for matches to watch, I'll check the star ratings but not to decide if it's THE BEST MATCH EVER. But just to know if it'll be a decent watch.
A lot of stuff that's 4 stars from this era is usually overrated and contrived. Honestly, I can't FUCKING stand most NXT matches that people blow their loads over. Very formulaic stuff. Lots of big moves that nobody should kick out of, followed by a million nearfalls. The few Japan matches I'll watch are pretty good though. |

I also have trouble with Dave's stars because he rated nothing in WWF 5 stars until I think Cena/Punk which is ridiculous. So many of Bret's 3 1/2 star ratings are todays 4 and a half.

But yeah, I'll take any Bret Hart match over a Kenny Omega match 100x over. And I enjoy Kenny, but he doesn't do the little things the way Bret did. |

Yes you're right I just check and he did rate Austin/Bret 5 stars. My point was really though how he totally underrated a lot of great WWF matches because he was so hard over AJPW, AJPW Women, and NJPW at the time.

For sure. I think he gave Bret versus Diesel from Survivor Series 95 a 3.5 star rating, which is horse shit. That match is fucking fantastic. 3.5 stars is solid-very good. But Bret versus Diesel is one of my favorite matches and told an amazing story.

Oh man I know. I am all about Bret vs Diesel matches, there are so many good ones on WWE network. There is one from a show in July 94 that ended up being a Colesium tape that is really good, this is after their first match at KOTR 94, both of these matches are really incredible. Bret worked with Nash so well. Also I really enjoyed Bret vs Sid at that Dec 97 In Your House event. Bret was great with the big dudes. But that Survivor Series match was excellent and probably my favorite of all of their matches, but then again you have the cage match at In Your House in Feb 96 that was great too.

Dave Meltzer needs this shit to be good more than just about anyone. His star ratings are absolute bullshit. I use them when I’m hungry for a great match from history and as a starting point to go down a rabbit-hole, but he very clearly has his biases and there is no consistency. He is an AWFUL reviewer.

The wrestling industry as a whole NEEDS that hyperbole. It is just a promotion thing. No one really believes that RKO v Edge was the GREATEST MATCH EVER or whatever stupid shit they labeled it.
When talking heads in any industry garner large audiences, it is in the interest of their self-promotion and the promotions they are shills for, to use hyperbole. I also get confused with things like "that was every *insert wrestler name* match ever" which feels like it could apply to every wrestler in history. |

Nobody in their right mind should've believed Jericho's hype about his match. His job is to sell the product and get people to tune in. Of course he's gonna over hype it.

This was good. 8 man tag was great. Dynamic of Bucks and FTR working together was done really well. If they would’ve turned on each other or anything like, it would’ve been so predictable and been done a million times before. Much better that they’re wanting to prove to each other whose the best

When do they blowoff they feud? All Out? I'd think they're not gonna take that long to get that match on a card.

Yeah it's probably All Out. Bucks/FTR and MJF/Moxley feel like programs they'd love to wait to have regular crowds back for but there seems to be little hope of crowds returning until a vaccine is readily available (probably not until next year) so you may as well just try to go full steam ahead for All Out.

Plus he also mentioned before the main reason why there was such a long gap in between 5 star matches in WWF/WWE was less of WWE not being capable of great matches and more of him simply not being that much of a fan of their style. NXT getting rave reviews for their matches from him is mainly due to the PWG influence that brand has. |

If they do go with MJF, and they absolutely should, they'll have plenty of babyfaces to go up against MJF to build up his reign. Page, Omega, Dustin, Jungle Boy again, Luchasauras, etc. The only question is who's gonna be the guy to dethrone MJF. Unless they retread or decide to go with Cody, I don't see who would be next in line. |
